Talking To People About Threes |
Introduction |
I was really racking my brain trying to decide which of the 4 new decks I had built to use in this tournament. After a lot of deliberation, test draws, and solitaire games, I ended up choosing my Non-Aligned Anthropology deck. Basically, the deck is a three mission solver with a All Threes dilemma pile for use with Subliminal Signal. |

Round 1 | | Corbin Johnson | FW (+70)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
I was very excited to see some new people come and join us for this tournament. Corbin is apparently a 1E player that decided to give 2E a try. He was playing an Under Siege DS9 deck and there was definitely some 1E-to-2E growing pains but I could tell Corbin was learning the ropes quickly as soon as he grabbed my Lore with his Holding Cell. It was a good game though, and I think, with a few minor tweaks, Corbin's deck would be competitive. |
Mike's deck desired to go second so that he could download Lore on his first turn. He did. I played a holding cell to take his lore. He had no lore for the rest of the game. It didn't matter. I soon realized my deck (which I'd printed out only hours before and really hadn't read) needed to solve four missions to win. That meant this tournament would be very bumpy for me.
Mike won handily but was gracious enough at one point to let me take back playing a second luther sloan at one point without penalty (I hadn't realized I had two in play). Mike is a very gracious opponent and offered me a few deck tips after the game which I graciously accepted. |

Round 2 | | Michael Van Breemen | FL (-85) |
All I can say is ugh. How do you get paired down and still play MVB? This game made me mad at myself because I told myself before I left for the tournament "Ahh, you don't need Insurrection. What are the chances it will actually help in this all threes pile?" Yeah that little inner monolouge sunk me in this game with MVB's anti-TCS strategy. |

Round 3 | | Amber Van Breemen | FL (-60) |
If I had had one essential rare, I would have played almost the exact same deck as Amber. This game was basically a solving race that Amber was able to do faster than I was. Good game. |

Round 4 | | Jason Beyer | FW (+80) |
Jason was our other new player and 1E transplant. He had told me that he had built the deck last night and with only a night's work the deck wasn't half bad. I was just able to shut him down more than once with Gomtuu so that kinda locked it for me. He did pull off a Tides of Fortune which was pretty cool since I have never actually seen that card actually work. |
