Introduction |
Here it is. 2E Worlds 2014. I really wanted to play a deck that I knew backwards and forwards and hope that it would carry me a few rounds. With that in mind, I brought the latest version of my ES9 deck that I have been honing for some time. I promised my wife though that I would drop out as soon as it started looking bleak just so that we could go out to dinner with her sister and her husband since they live in Indy. Spoiler alert: dinner was tasty. |
Round 1 | | Richard New | FL (-100) |
I had never played Richard before so I had no idea what to expect. He was playing a straightforward Ferengi solver with a lot of shifting cards with Mirror Rom. My dilemmas just could not do much against it and he took the win. |
Round 2 | | Rogue Shindler | FW (+50) |
I always love playing Rogue so I was quite happy when we got paired. Then I sat down and there is a monk sitting across the table?! Rogue was in full Last Airbender cosplay mode which definitely made for an even more interesting game. The matchup ended up being my ES9 versus Rogue's new Bajor. I won this game solely on the power of my dilemmas. I drew dilemmas really well throughout the game and kept stopping or killing Rogue's key personnel. The megateam of Worf/Ezri/Primmin/Joe also helped a lot too. |
Round 3 | | Amber Van Breemen | FL (-100) |
Amber was playing a basic Voyager solver with the Chuckles brothers. I just could not get a Secret ID or anything else worth drawing, so my dilemmas just fizzled and she got the win. |
Round 4 | | William Hoskin | FL (-65) |
Will even admitted that this was one of the luckiest games he has ever had. His random selections kept beating the odds every time, and his Evek captured Data, Sloan, and Muniz! I just had no chance against luck like that. |
Round 5 | | Jeremy Huth | FW (+45) |
A rematch of the first round the day before! Time for some retribution. Jeremy was playing DS9 and this game ended up being a straight race to 100 points. I was able to get ahead thanks to Jaresh and his people dump and I stayed ahead to take the win. |
Round 6 | | Missed Game | MG (0) |
By this time, I was spent and I can honestly say that winning against Jeremy kinda made me feel bad. I talked to Charlie and he bluntly asked "are you having fun?" I had to answer "no" so he said I should just go and do something fun. Of course, the Chairman was right, so I dropped and headed out for a nice meal. |

Round 7 | | Missed Game | MG (0) |
If you live in Indy, go check out the new restaurant Union 50 on East Street near Mass Ave. That place is awesome! |
Round 8 | | Missed Game | MG (0) |
With a belly full of meatloaf and poutine, I headed back to the convention center to walk around and people watch. |

Closing Thoughts |
As usual, my performance in higher level tournaments was not what I would have liked it to be. Well, there is always next year I guess. |
