OTF - Starfleet/Kling Treaty deck |
Introduction |
So a nice day in Edmonton after driving through a snow storm just north of Calgary on the final leg of the trip from Vancouver. It was great to finally put a face on some of the people I knew only from messages and a lot of fun was had on the Trip up and at the tournament it self.
So today i was playing a Star-fleet/Klingon treaty deck for the achievement and abusing the heck out of 'Fitting In' because I suspect it is not long for the world in it's current form.
The deck worked well enough to eak out a tournament win today, but I had some help with time running out in 2 games while i was ahead one of which was sure to go down hill, and one game that went just long enough fro me to get one more turn in and finish my last mission fro the win when my opponent was ahead before that. |

Round 1 | | Mark Morris | MW (+20)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Hey it's Mark who I met at GenCon last year, mostly a 2e player still learning 1e we had a fun time catching up, Mark was playing a Borg stop first contact deck.
I got out of the gate much faster then Mark scoring 2 missions for 70 points, then he started in on earth. I risked going past a Edo probe & was rewarded with a Cytherians trip. Mark finished Earth and stopped first contact for 40 points & most of my deck evaporated, but then time ran out with me ahead 60 to 40 and the modified win, with most of my deck missing Mark would have won eventually, so I got lucky on this one. |
Yup, there it was, pulled Ken in round 1. OK. Let's see how this goes.
Ken was very patient with me and I really appreciate it, though in the end I was sad to see this game end in a timed victory. I somewhat believe if I had known my deck or played it before I might have been the guy to break ken's winning streak
on my last turn I did manage to Stop First Contact and with the timeline disrupted in 2063, and most of Ken's starfleet folks removed from the game it would have only been a matter of time before I completed salvage for the other 60 points.
Good to see you again Ken, and looking forward to the next time. |

Round 2 | | Chris Jurasek | MW (+52) |
Chris one of the local players was playing a nice Bajoran Resistance/First minister/Chamber of ministers deck a nice deck much like many of my own. We both got rolling but our dilemmas were stalling each other a lot and I accidentally lost a lot of people. I was ahead when time ran out taking a modified win. |

Round 3 | | Thomas Solway | FW (+8)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Thomas the local top player I knew this would be a hard game as he dropped his missions I saw TNG Klingon's coming ans was worried my deck had NOT been running that fast and I expected him to well out speed me. We both had bad turn 1's and started running on our respective turn 2's. After a few turns building up I went fro a space mission passing a Gomttu and starting a Cytherians trip I had just enough range to get to his Paxon wormhole and got relocated to the wrong end of the space line I did a little mission range math and I was gona hit that Paxon every second turn :( So a loop or 2 later I got a dedication plague and got out of the loop meanwhile Tomas was solving but losing some points to The Higher The Fewer. At this point he also had a ship on a Cytherians trip chasing a whale probe down the space line. I solved the mission I had started clearing before with a second ship. The 2 Klingon ships decided to attack my enterprise on it's great Cytherian quest well the crew of the enterprise suddenly held Strait and Steady and destroyed one of them while escaping unscathed. Thomas now had 3 solved but with the 2 THTFs he was a few points off a win. The Columbia and her captain spent some time to take out his Cytherians tripping ship before it reached the end of the line and won him the game; as this happened The Enterprise finished it's trek and started back with a Sereavieo dropping out of a Space Time Portal to provide more Command stars to pump up the enterprise it took out the last Klingon ship in play stalling Thomas a lot. I managed to 'Fit In' & get 2 more missions before he got another ship, also moments before time ran out, and took the full win 100-92. I got lucky though as had Thomas gone for his TTP mission fro his 3rd one he could easily have bottled up any one of my ships and had the win long before I could recover from it as I had meant to add a few Anij to the deck but had forgotten to in my last minuet rush to get the deck put together. All in all a VERY close game. |
The first mission Kenneth hit he hit my Cytherians, this stuck him in a loop where he would hit my Paxan Wormhole. This went on for a few turns giving me a decent head start. I had finished three missions, but needed an extra 8 points due to the higher the fewers. In the end I couldn't finish the last one as Ken managed to kill all my ships with his Super Enterprise. On a related note, The Enterprise collection Enterprise should really have a limit to its special ability. Ken managed to win by moving his Enterprise from one end of the spaceline to another. And insta-killing my ships :-). |

Round 4 | | Kurtis Correia | FW (+32) |
Last and playing against one of my fellow players from Vancouver. Kurtis was playing his Ferengi TNG deck I knew I had a counter to try and stop him locking out my planets but I would have to go for one last and draw in to a RRD. we were both off and running fast I noticed he had only 2 dilemmas at 2 of my space so I went fro them first and with fitting in I cleared them quickly for 70; meanwhile Kurtis also solved 2 missions and thanks to The Higher The Fewer he was at 68. I got to my planet and started to clear first holding Strait and Steady to fend off the Ferengi ambush. I solved the the planet the next turn; 1 turn before Kurtis would have likely walked through his last mission. Full win 100-68.
Good day, Good fun, Good to meet new Players. Hope to make it to the area again some time. |
