OTF DQ Hirogen traditional |
Introduction |
Ok so like most of my online torunaments so far I put little to no thought or prep time in to my deck, I realized it was traditional format nad i did not want to build any thign special up so i grabbed my hirogen deck since other thne dillemas it was basicaly traditional already few very minor tweaks to take out the tribunal of Q and i went with it, heres where the lack of thought hit me, I fully expected to face a tone of DQ, and ended up facing a couple of decks base doff of my hiro or vid builds to HAD i bene thinkign i would have put a battle bridge deck in, it could esaly have turned my round 2 game, and would definetly have had a huge effect in my round 4 game the lose. |
|
Round 1 | | J | FW (+100) |
J was playing a Baj/Cardi deck, a good solid deck but no compitition for DQ with out G4, or YaaM, I droped a huge crew right away and jus started rippign through missions. |

Round 2 | | Jon Carter | MW (+5)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
DQ Vids, losely based on my Vid deck, so we duped a few misisons (4) thisw made a short space line, Jon very smartly blew his TMW to bring Hajur doen as an hirogen to make it a lot harder to battle him. Lacky being a pita for me to sort out crews caused me to spend rediculess amounts of time trying to see if i could even build a crew for misison attempts the 5-7 dillemmas under the 4 duped didn;t help any either, Jon was havving similar issues, it was a very tight chess game of a match, he had to be carfull where Hajur was to prevent me battling him freely. Had this been an inperson gaqme i think we would have had np finishign in time but oh well. We both ended up useing Kes to jump the equinox away form a death from battle situatons. In the end it cacme down to gthe lats 2 turns on his he lost 5 points droping to 80 form 85 and i scored 45 to jump form 40 to 85 for the narowist of wins. |
SO another tournament, another chance to play ken with a deck that is sorta his.
Another nice short spaceline only two unduped missions.
I DH for penk to try to use hajur to protect myself a bit from hirogen (he is reported via temporal m)
Fear of shared missions really slows us down.
He attempts first, but gets dead ended.
I stop all of his battle attempts via
I get through restore victims but he in the zone’s it for 50 points.
I miss the ¼ chance of hitting friendly fire right, balls so he solves for 45
I try to battle but I foget that kess has the gift.
One of the most strategic games I have played in awhile
I’ve wasted a few important turns
I complete study proto nebula, but am not conservative enough in protecting my crew. So he can come and personal battle, I suckwhy did I just not run farther. AHHHHH. This is going to be a massacre.
the battle doesnt end up so bad because my vids pair up with his strongest and I have two harvesters. I only lose 1 guy.
at the start of my turn we realize time might have been up already (meaning i would have had the MW) but we wernt sure so we decided to play one more. I rush at my one unduped mission. but I friendly fire stop and lose 5 points to a hazardous duty. the next turn Ken completes a shared mission for the 5 point win
In retrospect i realized based on where his ships were I knew there was only one mission he could do (assist cooperative) as the only other missions in range were A)completed, b) mine without dupilcation or C) at the far end of his range but with a scow under them. As such I would have got the tie if I had done nothing. or I could have used my TI to lock him off the only plannet he could really do.
either way it was a fun game full of lots of stratagy and fun

Round 3 | | William Hoskin | FW (+100) |
OH look Will took the same hiro dekc i did Ie my normal hiro deck and tweaked it for traditional as well, we dupoed 6 of 6 missions, but Will is more a 2e guy where as i know this deck inside out, I set my dillemas up so that I could be tricky with them, and waited perfering to build up and not be the first to face 6+ dillemas. Will obliged by attempting missions first for me clearign a few dillemas so I could swoop in aqnd solve the missions. The score looks way out but it was closer then that because i kept finishign missions after he cleaer par of them fro me. |

Round 4 | | Andreas Limmer | FL (-100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
OH my another hirogen deck Shock! though some good tricks in this one of course me being rather 2e blind I was liek ok interesting when the holoprogran arrived, but when 2e murder boy showed up it made sense.
Realyl this game was virtual decide don the coin flip though, I lost it and his amazing DRAW a ship, a triplet hurt Badly, my Equinox blew up before my turn as the dupped missions foced the nekrit region away from ocompa. I spend the whole game trying HARD to make a come back and I almost did i managed to take out his equinox but not afte rhe had gotten several free personal form it, anad we had duleing Olars. I though I Had him at one point when I checked my people after he failed an attept at the 45pt space mission and i knew my dillemma left was NP i dubble checke di still had the dillema skills and the mission skills on difrent people yup so i started out on a trek to it I got there first btu some how my second security was missing now and i failed my own last seeded friendly fire and i woudl count down on my turns garentying him first shot at the cleared mission he had 50 form a planet and requesting the item, btu i had killed his MS to make the space 50 so it was a race could he get that MS back and solve it when the countdown expiered, got the MS bakc in tiem and got there the turn it was clear to solve for the win. here is the game that forgettign a battle brig hurt really badly, my hiro OP was right next door to ocompa any tactic i would have used could have saved the ship form getting one shooted, a damged ship would have sucked but could have still alowed free reports while it repaired, OR if he had just not drawn a ship and been forced to DL it at the end of turn or not had 2 leaders, or not gone first a very difrent game. Had my deck been running at 100% in sted of limping along at 50% trying to find a way to catch up because he had the huge splat out and i had nothing, I think it would have been a VERY close game that could have esaly swung my way. |
Surprise -a Hirogen deck! And this game was intense. I went first, got Netek, Olarra a Holodeck Door and Marika in hand, played Netek, Marika got the other two Borg, played the Olarra, got Pent, Hajur, One and finally Telek R'Mor to staff two ships with Officer/Leadership and to blow his Equinox to pieces. But then the problems started he killed quite a few of my Securities (Alamo and the likes) blew up my Equinox (with another Security on board) and managed to report at the same pace as I did. We both battled our Olarras away and had only our Venatic Hunters at hand. The key mission was Investigate Quantum Singularity - I was stopped at this shared mission and he blew up my Olarra which I left there for Daisychaining my crew in for solving. He flew over encountered his own Friendly Fire and was not able to pass it - so I had only to wait till I got the points and was free to solve another mission in the meantime to bring me up to 50 points (Transport Colonists +15 points from my Dixon Hill). I got my mission specialist back via Isomagnetic Disintegrator and solved Quantum Singularity for the missing 50 points. |

Closing Thoughts |
I really need to stop buildign my decks for onlien tournaments as 1hr specials. Also should think a bit more abotu exacly what all these weird formats mean rather then just blindly minorly tweaking decks.
OH well another day another game :) |
