[OTF] FMO British invasion style |
Introduction |
SO I was working on a few decks, for this but they were not ready so I decided to take Danny's version of FMO with Empok Nor and give it a go since I had yet to play with it, I tweaked it up a bit for some specific tricks/counters I wanted to use, and thus was born FMO British invasion style. |
|
Round 1 | | Roxanne Barbour | FW (+15) |
OK so once Roxanne started seeding her missions I was purty sure I knew ruffly what she was doing, and I was worried, luckily I had first turn which would prove to save my butt.
Suspecting she was using attack the players hand/discard tactics she has been playing with version of the deck recently at local events I was careful to give her points during my first turn for her arguers so I wasn't forced to discard 3 cards to her shifting, I then downloaded at end of turn temporal vortex to hand, one of only 3 AU cards in my whole deck, Roxanne hit me with a shifting on her turn, the 4 draws were nice and I got really lucky with a nano probe res only 2 in the deck so got the vortex back right away Roxanne then swapped to using her shiftings for self draws. With 4 turns of picking on Empok I was able to out speed her but not but much 2 more turns and she would have been abel to get to 140 points, as she had every thing in play needed to pass the dilemmas at the next 2 missions she was headed towards. |

Round 2 | | Justin Ford | MW (+15)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
WE both had very slow starts to the game, I drew almost no 4 or less skill personal for CM draws with in the first 3 turns of the game and whiffed a Empok Nor attack, (0% hull damage), Justin has no Handshakes in his opening hand and his initial The power I carefully chose the handshake to discard. More used to versions of FMO I mistakenly went hunting for him, I did TI his earth, but I went hunting him when I should have just started solving, the mistake did not cost me the game but it may have cost me a full win and the tournament, however the silver lining is when the dust settled it also may have earned me an achievement that was hard fro me to get At least he didn't beat me! |
Playing against Ken is always fun, get to see some different ideas/strategies at work. Both sides started out with fairly bad draws and we did end up going to time with a score of 40-55. He attacked my enterprise and then on my next turn I had drawn my extra son'a ship and was able to play it and staff both son'a cruisers and returned fire with all 3 ships targeting one of his, taking it down and he then ran away with his surviving ships. We each solved 1 mission and that was game. I think this would probably be the closest game against Ken thus far in which I played him at the Vancouver regional and several smaller sanctioned tournaments. |

Round 3 | | J | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The space line set up had J hiding at his home world with 2 space missions then my main staging area, if he ventured to far out I would damage his ships for draw and points and stop him attempting space with the Quantum torpedoes. I used Empok to draw up cards gets some equipment and points then started solving. J never saw his secure HW card while I started clearing dilemmas. J went for a space mission with a big crew once I started solving, after Cytherians hit him he STP bounced the ship so I scorched his now huge hand. At this point my lead was to great I was able to just keep solving before he could really recover. |
In planning for this tournament, I specifically expected Ken to go DQ. He recently lost all his DQ achievements, so I thought he'd be hot to reacquire them. Instead he was trying one last unholy go at broken Ferengi battle. Too bad my dilemmas were teched for DQ.
I think this went quite well actually, though obviously not well enough. I started by using the 1st turn card play to get the D'deridex with AAH and moved it to Romulus with the mission specialists staffing. I then Defened Homworld DL'd for Telak and played him to the HQ so I had all my best play engines in the safety zone.
Unfortunately, this is where the draws got me. I couldn't get a handshake to save my life and I needed them to churn for the HQ: Secure Homeworld. I didn't see that necessary card until my last turn and couldn't play until the turn that never happened. I had also had to wait to attempt space for lack of Diplomacy (which turned out not to matter. But Ken loves to lead off with Gomtuu Shock Wave). This attempt left me with a clear mission, but a very full ship heading down the spaceline on a Cytherian cruise. I STP'd them to hand and Ken wisely Scorched it.
In retrospect, this deck would tech better against Ferengi if I seeded the HQ: Secure HW, Fed Flagship: Recovered, and then only 18 dilemmas. After the game, I took a peak at the Romulus dilemmas and they were a cakewalk for the green bloods. |

Round 4 | | Kurtis Correia | ML (-24) |
Kurtis playing Borg ug BORG, well I knew his deck so I used my early Empok attacks to defend my self getting Ablative and TIs I locked out hims planets to stop him getting a full win, and my ship with 3 plasmadynes and ablative and TI was safe from his interference I then had to start working through his dilemmas, Borg stall dilemmas with mission debriefing and I could not attempt multiple as I had to stay with the TI and one ship that was safe from destruction. Given enough time i could have slowly bashed threw the dilemmas fro the full win but we timed out before i could and Kurtis was ahead. However thsi lose combined with his other mod win, and my defeat of J with his 3 FW = At least he didn't beat me achievement WOOHOO! |

Closing Thoughts |
The deck was very fun to play, but attacking Empok Nor like that fells wrong, at least now FMO has been fixed to one per game, still a great ability just more metered.
