Introduction |
Yay found some of my tournament notes i though i had lost, so new report!
I was playing TN weenies with a side of leadership lock out attempt with Jemmie entrenchment and Weyoun. |
|
Round 1 | | Bye | BY (0) |
Bye Round that saw Canadian Vr. American match ups through random chance. It all saw two of the expected strongest competitors meet in round one. Isaiah And Matt. |

Round 2 | | Isaiah Nordhagen | FL (-30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Close Game were Richard Galen saved him on his last turn @ time as i had entrenched his mission and Weyounned all his leadership, then i failed to minor revolt randoms to get Westly with the skills. We were tied going in to that last missions the 5 point spend fro the skills was ballsy. At their first mission the Cadets faced sever tactical disadvantages. |
After my loss to Matt, I was worried about my prospects for the tournament and knew Ken would be a tough opponent and second round test. Ken was playing a Terok Nor 2 Mission solver I had seen a couple of iterations of at the Canadian Nationals, but he had thrown in a few of his own twists, including using Weyoun to remove Leadership personnel and Jem-Hadar Entrenchment to lock out missions. Using a cadet deck, this was a dangerous combo for me and almost lost me the game. In this game, my problem was I couldn't find the Prometheus. Fortunately I had drawn both my Excelsiors and decided to make a race out of it. Ken stopped me three times at Practice Orbital Maneuvers with Tactical Disadvantage (I hate that dilemma! :) but fortunately my dilemma pile also did it's job. Eventually I was able to download the Prometheus with Christening. Even though I never ended up playing it, it made Ken lose a couple turns after I had hit him with Damage dilemmas which forced him to go home. Ken then played a Gorgon on me at my Planet mission which won me the mission but lost me the Prometheus, allowing him to breathe easier. At this point we were coming up to time and at a true tie so I had a decision to make - lose 5 points with Richard Galen to go for the win and risk the tie or play it safe and hope I could prevent Ken from solving on his last turn? Ken had played Jem'Hadar Entrenchment on Geological Survey but it was the only mission I had the skills for so I decided to give Wesley all of the skills and hope he made it through. Ken flipped a Miner Revolt and I knew that if Wesley was pulled I'd fail the mission and if Galen was pulled I end up 5 short of the full win, but in the lead. With lots of cadets at the attempt, I knew my chances weren't great, but fortunately Ken picked a cadet and then my heroine, Lwaxana Troi and I was able to solve the mission for a nail-biting FW. |
|
Round 3 | | Julia Y-F Chen | FW (+100) |
So my TN was off and running fast milling one of her key dissident events with Davin then solving Kassary first go thanks to Navaar to clear dilemmas. Then our death was glory to the founders stopping the second key event. I went on to solve my planet quickly for the shut out after the Borg were tactically disadvantaged. |

Round 4 | | Matt Kirk | FL (-30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
He got Standard Orbit down early, though most of my DL still hit in the top 10. His first attempt I used Hard Time and an Honorable Pursuit to stop him with zero under yay! one fo the few things that went my way in the game. My first attemt at Kressari saw me get murdered by Tsiolkovsky. He solved Provoke the turn before i could turn teh one leadership in to 3 with a Jemmie Entrenchment. I managed to Weyoun Ross, leaving him unstaffed with no Fed to fly his runabout. i then finaly made it through Kressari but he killed Damar, denying me my Tenak'talar points. i continued to my planet but I got hit by a Dal'Rok and Spatial Interphase and was destaffed. Matt got restaffed first and went for his last mission my Eco Papa hit a person that cant DIE and he solved fro the win. |
Ken and I had been on opposite ends of the room all day, and we knew we were on a collision course. Again, I felt like my dilemma pile was a great match-up against his Terok Nor weenies and fragile Cardies. I knew that I was only going to win by outspeeding him, and I laid a Standard Orbit down early, hoping to nerf his RCouncil downloads. I got an early crew out that was missing a Leadership, but earlier in the day, Ken had brought up in conversation that he was horrible at skill tracking, so I was hoping he hadn't noticed and would throw a couple dilemmas at me anyway. He threw a Hard Time and an Honorable Pursuit, stopping me with no dilemmas overcome. Well crap.
Ken ventured out to Kressari and I got an early great pull with Caretaker's to get rid of Navaar, and Tsiolkovsky to kill three. He saved Damar with an ETU, but I felt like I could at least breathe a little bit as I searched for a Leadership. I found one and got Provoke down right before he could lay a Jem'Hadar Entrenchment on it. I got lucky on an Unfair Comparison, stopping Ken's team again and giving me a peek at his draw for Vulcan with a Rogue Borg Ambush. I found William Ross and brought him along, hoping Ken would throw it and forget about Ross gaining Intelligence. He did, and Vulcan was mine. Ken responded on his turn by naming Ross with Weyoun, leaving me unstaffed with no Fed to fly the runabout. Ken got Kressari down after I threw a He Wasn't Nice to kill Damar, denying him his extra 10 from Tenak'talar.
He went to his planet mission and I got a Dal'Rok and Spatial Interphase to tag two of his guys and destaffing him! I then went for my last gasp @ BForce w/6. He drew 4 and only threw Echo Papa, since his Helping Hand had been missing all day. It was a 50/50 shot to kill someone, since Odo, Mullibok, and Lore couldn't be killed. Mullibok turned up to punch Echo Papa in the face, and I took the game and the championship! |
