Speedy Cadets |
Introduction |
Tried to play a Cadets deck. Overall it worked very well, but I was plagued with the Guinan / At What cost mismatch... I either had 2-3 of one and none of the other, or two of one, and one of the other... |

Round 1 | | Steve Nelson | FW (+30) |
Steve built a very good deck. It was Bajor resistance, and his Arena/Combat combo worked very well for him. His only big play mistakes were centered around my playing TT Dilemmas, and him over committing on attempts.
I won this match after a severely lucky near-complete wipe of his mission skill personnel on an attempt.

Round 2 | | Greg Bloom | FL (-50)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
First off, I'm playing Tragic Turn... Who can we name that has the most TT hate? Archer... oh how I hate Archer... not to mention that I started with one of the worst hands this deck can produce... 2 At What Cost, Data, 1 Cadet, 2 Ships, and one BoT.... so starting with 2 At What Cost, my goal became find my 5 points on Guinan... Both copies were 10 cards from the bottom... No luck there... Still a close game, very well played by Greg, despite him not finding his Archer until the last turn and all my secret ID's and Polywaters being consumed already. I would have had this as a win, but he Rogue Borg ambushed me... Then Lustfull'd my Bridge Officer Test... Further proof that Lustful is way to powerful for relativly NO COST... |
Shawn was running Cadets, which I had quite a few good dilemmas for. His dilemma pile was Tragic Turn with very few skill dilemmas, but I had trouble drawing into my Archers. I managed to repeatedly stop him in space, usually only putting one under each time, and thanks to the reporting ability of the Enterprise I didn't have to return to my outpost to replace the guys getting killed (or bounced with Phlox). I managed to get my space mission done first for the bonus points, but he completed his Cadet mission shortly after. I got my first planet done, and he start stacking dilemmas at his other mission. I finally managed to draw Archer and he had no skill dilemmas left for the last mission, letting me get through it for the full win. |

Round 3 | | Nat Kirton | FL (-50) |
Again.... Starfleet... FML. Nat saw 3 Archers... I killed 2... He Floxed one, but had to discard him anyway... He gomtu'd my Enterprise, slowing me down for that crucial one turn that made the difference... this was a very well constructed and played Starfleet deck... even without the usual gimmicks found in Starfleet, he had almost as much speed as Cadets should have... I have no complaints on how I played this... it just didn't happen when it needed to... by one turn...

Round 4 | | Caleb Grace | FL (-100) |
Oh the Borg.... weilded by a two time, World Champion... I wasn't even close to a win here, and his deck fired off like a well oiled machine. Very well played, amazing deck construction. But we would expect nothing less from Caleb the Great.

Round 5 | | Dan Van Kampen | FW (+65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
I got my revenge on the Borg... His deck had a glaring weakness that my Dilemma pile was almost specifically designed to handle... A drastic lack on Leadership. got 2 full attempt stops from Diggys and Wittys. Plus did some decent amount of killing on the side... which really doesn't slow Borg down much.
Despite being one of the newer players, he knew his deck, he was at least passing familiar with most of the other cards in my deck, and knew the rules/mechanics enough not to slow down play. He did a great job with his deck, and I hope to see him at future tournaments.

I would say this is closest to 'trounced' I came. My first time ever having to deal with a Tragic Turn deck. I now understand the hype. TT could have been worse but one got eaten by a consume dilemma and I was able to use Borg shenanigans to get around a Clown: Guillotine once (the other times hurt though!)
Shawn really held me off at my first mission - I started one turn too soon and got de-staffed (just barely, arg!). I then tried in vain go get through for 2 more turns (after getting reinforcements). In hind sight I should have 'spent' the turn to fly back to my headquarters and get re-enforcements. Of the 5 games my limited leadership (only Queen and Locutus) hurt me the most here - in the previous games it hadn't been too big of a deal....
I also now hate cadets and really regretting cutting Parting Shot from my deck... :-) |
