Tournament Report - 1E

Introduction
Oh ja. Das ist barely legal. As the climax of our trip to Aberdeen, Niall has prepared an absolutely awesome event. Everyone got a starter deck (turned out to be Klingos for Niall, Ferengi for Steven, Bajoran/Fed for Peter and Romulans for me) and then we randomly distributed all the cards on the ban list (with a few exceptions). I had I good pull, getting Spatial Rift, the Supernova and Red Alert as best cards. After a round of full scottish breakfast we beered up fot this depraved event. Peter, being fed up on british beer, decided to go for Erdinger and Niall could not reject trying it out as well (because maybe des is hoid a pracht holera die hidei!)

Round 1Niall MatthewFW (+75)
Oh my ... Niall played a strategy which Danny so well describing called " Play and Discard" as he just dumped personnel and sent them into their redshirting death. I correctly guessed where Niall would put his artifact (he was in for some Horgasms!) and rifted that mission. His high cunning Klingons had no chance there. I got my first mission with the Tox Utath and went for a second. However, I was severely denied by YGII (oh my!) which made me consider going somewhere else. Thanks to the alert, I could spit out a lot of my cards next turn and was about the clear the second mission and was in good position for the third. So I figured it might be time to Raise the Stakes!! Niall accepted and I somehow got throught the other two missions for the win, while Niall just managed to get one mission in. The Raise the Stakes meant I could call out three of his banned cards and randomly select one to go into my card pool. I was hoping to get the Horgahn or the YGII but had to settle for a Devidian Door.

Round 2Peter LudwigFL (-100)
Hoping third time to be a charm I was paired against Ensign Syphilis (being demoted to Wesley's Subordinate Syphilis the night before because of continuous misconduct). Only paying attention to my Weissbräu and being the idiot I am I totally forgot about the Sheliak and ran into in (at my outpost mission) really early. Outpost got destroyed and my empty ship (Anti-Time Anomaly!) was floating around. I did not draw into my Devidian Door nor a universal Engineer for ages, so it was impossible to Isomag my Outpost back to my deck for a very long time. In between, Ludwig, having no experience in mission solving, somehow did not get through any of my dilemmas. Without any points on the board he decked out. Would I have had my Devidian Door by that time I could have actually gotten the FW by Devidian Door / Explain Your Presense / Data,Keep Dealing to Deck out myself, which would have made him cry so hard. Instead, he got the mission next turn, but I finally got my engineer and recycled the discard pile. The next turns, Peter was able to get through the other missions but at least I managed to rebuild my outpost before the game was over.

Round 3Steven RichFW (+100)
Steven was the poor devil who should experience payback from last game. Being denied a facility against Peter I managed to make Stevens outpost mission go Nova in this game. Fueled by Red Alert I got through his missions while his remaining crew had no chance getting through my dilemmas (Being hit by a devestating Weak Will Perish early in the game didn't help Stevens cause).

Closing Thoughts
This format is a real blast and I hope to play it again some time. Despite the brokeneness of some cards it was really balanced in a weird way and with four players everybody got just the right amount of banned cards. After the tournament Danny and Steven headed back for home and Niall showed Peter and me around the city once more until we had to leave in the evening as well. What a great event - can't wait for next Aberdeen Anarchy!!
