Bajoran Resistance visiting DS9 |
Introduction |
Having played Maquis last time I visited the DS9 region, I decide to go with Bajoran Resistance since no one I last played here encountered it. |
|
Round 1 | | Jon Carter | MW (+35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
My first time ever facing a Khan deck. I get a lesson in what Space Seed dilemma does. Most dilemmas I can usually get by with interrupts/abilities. Space Seed has requirements of +40 cunning or +40 strength making it difficult for 5-6 peeps to pass. Getting a Just Like Old Times destroyed meant I had to do three missions instead of two. Fortunately my dilemmas keep him to only 1 mission completed. Time gets called and I have to complete two missions for the win. I complete my space, then attempt another planet with 8. I keep Furrel aboard with some personnel to revive two peeps if I fail. Sadly, another Space Seed hits and nabs 2 guys with skills needed to complete the mission. Not having the skills even If I revive 2, I have to settle for a Mod win. |
My second attempt at Ceti Alpha hits exactly 34 cunning. THis i think is the pivitol moment as it keeps me from having time to trigger ALC and get back going. |

Round 2 | | Al Schaefer | FL (-80)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Another Khan deck and just like last game, a JLOT is destroyed and Space Seed barely succeeds to nab my personnel. Twice. In this game though, my dilemma pile just doesn't stop Al's attempts as effectively as it did against Jon. The only points I do manage to get are bonus with a JLOT and with Kira Taban. After facing two Khan decks, I'm thinking maybe I should have gone with Maquis after all. |
Steve had apparently just faced Jon's TRIH, and while he won that game, he wasn't too happy to have to face it again. I went second again and got an identical first turn as the last game. I didn't have trouble getting a good group of Genetically Enhanced out early, but Steve had some good one stop dilemmas and some good fortune to keep me from completing Ceti early. Steve used his Resistance personnel to pick a fight and score some bonus points, but then I completed Ceti and rolled onto Regula. Steve started to feel the pressure after losing a pair of Bajorans to Space Seed and made a pair of questionable decisions. I took the opportunity and ran to the finish line, completing Genesis and scoring the FW. |

Round 3 | | Eric Bieche | FW (+70) |
With this game, everything seems to work. Arena hits to strand one peep for me to pounce on with 2 JLOT finally allowing a 2 mission win. My mission attempts are completed in 2 tries per attempt thanks to interrupts and/or abilities. |

Round 4 | | Casey Wickum | FW (+30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
The main reason I played Bajoran Resistance instead of Maquis was because of Casey. Mainly because of his wall dilemmas Rapid Progress/Infinite Diversity. My opening hand though was not real good. I get mostly hand weapons and JLOT but draw and play 2 Heler's later to get more cards. Casey has 1 mission completed and then hits an Arena in his next mission. Later Casey said if I picked any other peep, he could use Driven to prevent. It wouldn't have worked because I had Paenol out with Te'nari/hand weapon combo. After scoring 45 points with JLOT, I draw about 20 cards within 3 turns to draw event destruction to remove Coordinated Attack. While this is going on, Casey is double attempting his last mission, but I stop both attempts. I do this twice in two turns putting only one dilemma under the mission. I do manage to complete 1 mission and need one more win when time gets called. After 5 minutes of contemplating my away team, I attempt hit An Issue Of Trust and Gomtuu. It takes a prevented Stricken Dumb (Sisko), Bajoran Earrings, Resistance Rifle, Natural Instincts and Covenant to get past the dilemmas and get the requirements for the win. |
I was hoping to see Maquis from Steve as I think that's generally a free matchup for the brand of ToS that I run. But he dropped Bajoran Resistance guys. He gets off to a rather slow start dropping Dukat and a bunch of events. A key point to this game came at the Baku Planet. With 6 of the 7 attempting able to get through his Arena thanks to either having high attributes or being able to boost them through driven, but it hit on Shran.. the low attribute non ToS person, So he got whisked away sadly and had shared in some old times with the Bajoran Resistance for a grand total of 45 points. Still at this point I was feeling pretty good as I had two missions completed, and he had a grand total of 1 dilemma underneath his.
This is where things got a bit dicey though. It starts with a misplay on a Rapid Progress, giving him his first mission. I tend to cascade mistakes once I miss one of these. And this was no different. I start trying to dual microteam Protect the Escapees, and start eating damage counter after damage counter. I forgot to pick up my left behind personnel at Baku Planet for a turn. I really shouldn't have used an IL strategy against an out of state player and just sent 10 down on turn one and then started to micro it out. For some of the bad luck Steve's had in our past matchups, it was on his side today as several times his random selections hit perfectly.
The game went to time and Steve had a chance for either a FW or a ML going to his last attempt. I get 6 counters to spend, with CC blown up after 3 turns of drawing for event destruction my ID that I drew would be worthless. It was either Issue + Gomtuu or Intimidation, I don't like to gamble on random selections so I felt confident in my Issue of Trust + Gomtuu combo, but 3 Interrupts and a Resistance Rifle later and that was that. It was a well played game from Steve and he avoided any major mistakes. |

Closing Thoughts |
After the tournament, I see Bajoran Resistance was the correct deck ti play after all. I'll remember this tournament for two reasons. Beating Casey after a string a bad luck against him, and playing against 2 straight Khan decks getting hit with Space Seed. |
