No Ships for You! |
Introduction |
In preparation for this tournament, I had a couple ideas for decks. I had an Illegitimate Leader of the Empire deck or a KCA deck. However, in keeping with the theme of fun/achievement decks, I decided to try a deck I've thought about for a while: A deck with no ships. My first thought was to use Iconian Gateways, but I figured it was too slow and vulnerable to Kevin Uxbridge. I ultimately used Bajorans, Reactor Control Thrusters and the Orb of Time to travel around. I knew it had a high boom/bust potential and it clearly busted. |

Round 1 | | Jason Tang | FL (-90)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
My first game against Jason, my first attempt was stopped by the Hanonian Land Eel and I could not find any science personnel to pass it. I played Dabo to score some points. |
Here I goofed during the seed phase and forgot where I seeded my Ferengi Ingenuity combo. It didn't matter, since Justin was stuck on Bajor where he didn't have the SCIENCE to pass my first dilemma of Hanonian Land Eel.
Meanwhile, I had Geordi, so I picked a couple good-looking planet missions and solved them. I had a panic attack when half my away team was "stopped" and the other half encountered "God" (I was supposed to remember to play around that...), but Deanna and some cardie + Lower Decks saved me with their outstanding moral character.
Justin started trying to scrape points together by running lone personnel into the Land Eel just so he could Dabo them away.
I thought about splitting up my crew to a second ship for what I thought was going to be a Cytherians-related combo, but decided that with a range of 12 the EE was going to be fine, so I just attempted with my whole team. There were no Cytherians, and I plowed through for the win. |

Round 2 | | Ben Johnson | FL (-94) |
During this game with Ben, I was stopped by God and the Reactor Control Thrusters were not coming to me. I didn't have What Does God Need With a Starship to nullify the dilemma, so I was stuck. I played Dabo for some points as well.
As a note, Ben was lucky he was playing EMHs. One of my first card draws was Kavok, and I would have commandeered one of his ships. However, they where never empty. |

Round 3 | | DavidDidactic | FL (-100) |
David is a new player and a friend of James. I tried to help him learn some of the intricacies of playing as I was unable to get a mission attempt with my outpost on the wrong side of Bajor and being unable to solve my Homeworld without HQ: Secure Homeworld. |

Closing Thoughts |
I still think a deck like this can work, but changes need to be made to my build. Obviously, being open to more dilemmas than movie dilemmas would be better. Changing Leah Brahams to Hogan so I can free up a card slot for HQ: Secure Homeworld would help as well. Perhaps switching to Federation and going off Earth. If you stick with Bajorans, a refactor of the personnel to get more effective personnel would help. I also could have used more ways to burn through the deck and more Reactor Control Thrusters. |
