Introduction |
This was a standard pre-Broken Bow Starfleet deck with Paxan "Wormhole" and Data (Aspirer) thrown in to hopefully shield me from the Kevin Jaeger Capture Deck. Condition Red made Enterprise incredibly burly, but it wasn't on a mission of war this time; it just wanted to solve space missions. |

Round 1 | | Barry Windschitl | FL (-1)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
When playing against Delta, the key thing is that they ARE going to get to 100 points before you. The question is whether they get to 140 before you get to 100.
But since we were BOTH playing to 140, I couldn't keep up. Great game, lots of great dilemma combos, and kudos to Barry for pulling out the FW in the end. |
As Heavy Metal was playing his Starfleet deck (sans the battle), and was going all space (he Did have 1 planet for sucking away any planet dilemmas, and so he could seed the Starfleet time location and HQ), it became obvious that this was going to be a long match. And it was. He hit me with some Hard, Shady (Shades of Grey) dilemmas, and had me hit with Tsiolkovsky's, Combo Plague ships, and Barcaly's that decimated my main crew. Luckily, Kes was able to pull my guys out of one tragedy, only to have a bunch of them succumb to another. Despite this, I was able to hit him back with my combos, and, as we both had to go to 140 points, I was able to somehow maneuver my way to a full win. A Tough but Great Game. |

Round 2 | | Mark Muston | MW (+30) |
Mark wanted to shoot me with his Kazon Armada. I didn't want to fight! (Okay, admittedly only because his armada outgunned Enterprise even WITH Enterprise's 25+ SHIELDS.) He spread his ships out as much as he dared to try to catch me in a net and blow me out of the stars, but ENTERPRISE was just too fast, enjoying 25+ RANGE as well!
Mark was digging for a Hail, but couldn't find it. |

Round 3 | | Kevin Jaeger | FL (-45) |
This was the game where my Paxan tech came into play! It didn't work.
Well, actually, it DID work, and pretty well, too. Kevin came to fight my guys at the time location, but battle exclusion and my own decision to report very few personnel meant there wasn't much he could do. I then got Data out and fled. We were able to build up forces, slowly, at the Paxan Wormhole! It was super-cool!
But then I tried attempting a mission, and made two errors.
- I left Data on the Neutral Outpost at the Paxan Wormhole to protect him.
- I sent Enterprise. (In my defense, there were no shuttlepods in the game yet.)
I encountered a Scow. Kevin flipped Mission Debriefing (something I would have obviously foreseen if I'd played against the deck before!), then flew over, beamed through shields, captured guys, killed literally everyone else, and left the ship for dead. I couldn't even bring the ship back to Paxan Wormhole, because any ship I brought there would be instantly relocated (as Data was still on the outpost and now would never be able to leave!).
So that was that. Interesting idea, but unwieldy, specific to exactly one of Kevin's decks, and ultimately unsuccessful. I will not try facing down Kevin in this manner again. |

Closing Thoughts |
Good times, though! This was a while ago now, but it was my first trip to the South Dakota Garage of Trek, and there was good food and good hospitality from all present! Obviously a good place for Trek, and it made me happy to return for future events when travel permitted. |
