Tournament Report - 2E
2013-07-13 - 01:00 PM
DS9Non-AlignedSometimes the real thing isn't always better!
Introduction
Sadly, I only get out to Sioux Falls to play about once a year. With that being said, I usually try to play a deck I make up with cards either I've never played with before, or I just really enjoy. When I started to think about ideas for my deck for this tourney, I wanted to go all robots...oops! There just aren't enough of them out there to really make it viable. So I had to throw in some Genetically Enhanced personnel and some other randoms for skills.

Round 1TOSKris SonstebyFL (-35)View opponent's Report
This is how bad the rest of the day went, because this is the only match that things went well for my deck...and I used the Phoenix to get around and solve two missions! My dilemma pile worked really well in this game, which bought me some time to get a couple of missions under my belt. If only I hadn't Tuvixed away my staffing for my real ship, maybe I could have at least attempted by third mission. Oh well, it was a fun game to play and I am glad I totally didn't get destroyed.

Round 2TOSKevin JaegerFL (-70)View opponent's Report
Ugh...I tested my deck against Kev's deck the night before the tournament, so I knew how bad this was going to be. Thankfully for me, Kev's dil pile crapped out to some degree on my first mission, so I was eventually able to solve the mission without everyone dying. After that, this game was over as Kevin had no real issues against my dil pile and plowed through his missions.

Round 3KlingonMike szarmachFL (-70)
I played Mike this round, who was playing a KRiS deck. Even though it didnt appear Mike's deck was working all that great, his dil pile certainly worked against me. I was slow to get started and when I did, I got one or two dropped a couple of times. On my last attempt Mike was able to stop only two personnel, but they were the perfect two as it killed my cheating ability for my mission skills. Going into the game I didnt think I'd have an issue solving one mission, but Mike was able to stop me from doing that.

Round 4ByeBY (0)
Bye - dont have a clue what i was doing...probably drinking a beer and eating a cookie while playing on the ipad.

Round 5DS9-EarthPreston HolidaMW (+5)
Played my favorite opponent, Preston and some stupid battle deck :) I thought I would surprise Preston by playing with the Phoenix, that didnt work so well against a battle deck! Preston probably should have won this game for sure, since we were having a blast and goofing around most of the game, but when time was officially called, I was up by five points thanks to Preston giving me five bonus points. Preston was able to destroy one of my ships, no personnel on board thankfully, place two damage markers on my Phoenix, and when we played the turn after time was called he came over and destroyed all my peeps and ship again.

Closing Thoughts
My deck could have been smaller and better, easily! (Stupid Tuvix!) I guess that's what happens when you don't play often. But I must say this was the most fun actually playing trek that I've had in the last couple of tournaments. I'm glad Kris made the long haul out to SoDak to join us for this event! Maybe I should play online before a tournament so I can refine my deck prior to getting to the tournament...
