Kazon Beats - Traditional |
Introduction |
I was expecting alot of Delta decks in this format, and I've been wanting to try Kazon armada for a while. The deck is an absolute wrecking ball in the Delta quadrant... so long as I have something to shoot! |

Round 1 | | Jeremy Huth | FL (-30) |
Oh no, Borg! Made several mistakes in this game, key one being downloading Ready Room Door, placing it on top of deck, and then going for another download before drawing it again. Woops, that set me back quite a bit. With his Borg going to AQ I figured there was no way I could shoot them, so it had to be a race to solve missions. Jeremy managed to Stop First Contact... and that pretty much ended my mission attempting, since I'd been drawing pretty much all my Fed/NA personnel at this point. |

The wrecking ball had a target, and did exactly what it was designed for. Michael saw 1 dilemma before his outpost was destroyed and the game became solitaire. Sorry Michael! |
When your home away from home is blown up before you even have a turn, the game is over before it even really begins. Plus, once I got other ships out, they were commandeered as well. I had no chance. |

Oh no, Alpha Quadrant! Made another mistake in this game of forgetting to grab Dr. Nydom with ASP for Ancestral Vision, instead getting Ty Kajada (who is only meant to be grabbed to provide more leaders for battle). Somehow in this game I only drew into 1 KFC (out of 18 in the deck), and none of the Equinox personnel. Even then my personnel weren't doing too badly with missions, solving 2 planets. The problem came in space: I knew I hadn't drawn any Medical personnel, and that Plague Ship would destroy me. I decided to take the chance... and promptly hit Plague Ship. End turn, draw 2 Medical personnel. Ack. I might have had this game had I remembered Dr. Nydom, but it was a close game either way. |
Matt was all in the Delta Quadrant with an armada of ships to blow up anything in that part of the galaxy, but luckily my spoonheads were far away from his Kazon wrecking crew.
I finally went first, for a change (0 for 4 at UK Nationals...), and I think I actually remembered to do all the necessary downloads this time. On my second turn I was able to peek at the dilemmas under Cardassia, and found Crisis there, which stopped me.
Matt played a KFC, which I mirrored, as I needed a ship to make some progress, so he was free to redshirt Liberation with two people. The Guillotine killed Penk, so Neelix (Diplomacy) survived.
On my turn, I processed ore, found a ship, dropped it together with Legate Damar and Mila (after some support personnel was breakfast for Crell), and attempted Cardassia again. After the Crisis, Damar was important enough to get through the Executive Authorization, and after his download of For Cardassia!, I completed that mission for 50 points - but now I was down to two usable personnel in play...
Matt played some Kazon guns, and with their help, he easily got through the Founder Secret and Flapjacks at Liberation, and completed for 30 points. However, at his next planet mission, he was unprepared and lost 10.
I finally got my Leeta out and reported some more personnel, and made my way to Kressari Rendezvous to peddle some guns. Lack of Preparation didn't affect me, but since I didn't have an empty ship, A Fast Ship took out a Leadership and I failed the Dignitaries and Witnesses that followed. Leeta played Dabo, but failed horribly.
Matt reported The Artificial Intelligence to walk through the Lack of Preparation, and also breezed through the rest of the dilemmas to get take the lead, 60-50. He then moved on to a space mission, and his bad draw now cost him dearly, as all but one personnel died to MLI/Plague Ship. He had one Science left in play, but to report two more and a Medical should give me some time.
Unfortunately, I didn't have enough guns in play to get to 100 from Kressari and a successful Dabo, so I went for Investigate Maquis Activity. The first team got through Dead End and revealed Twisted, so I took a chance and flew in my gun trading crew to look at the last dilemma - it was a misseed, so I was free to complete both that mission and Kressari on my next turn. Leeta's wrist was better this time, and she gave me 6 points.
Matt finally found some Medical personnel, but couldn't form a solving crew just yet, so on my turn, Dukat and his cronies completed IMA, then brought the ever-popular "guns for points" programme to Kressari for the win. |

Closing Thoughts |
Kazon were a meta choice for this format, they do much better in Traditional than full cardpool. I think they are underrated. With the right pairings they can smash their way to victory. |
