CardassianFederationDS9 Sealed Deck - May 2020
Introduction
I'd never played 1E during this era of the game, and I'd only played DS9 sealed once before, so I was nervous. But when I opened my packs, I was really happy with my pool of missions and personnel - not very splashy, but solid and with consistent skills. My rares were much more hit and miss, with lots of cards I couldn't use like Rescue Personnel or File Mission Report. I was worried about my dilemmas, but I used all the ones I got and it turns out I had some good choices for the format. As per the rules, I added an outpost to the pool to give me three reporting locations, since I was light on seed cards.

Round 1BajoranCardassianFederationJason RobinetteFW (+45)
We duped two missions (Kressari and Eliminate Virus). I built up a crew and flew over and cleared out Intercept Renegade, but was damaged and Jason swooped over and blew me up. :( I lost my best ship and a big crew, but the mission was empty. It was here that I realized that Hidden Fighter was useless because I had no way to take off. Oops! I kill his 10 and 01 with a Common Thief, and then he's stopped to Clan People at his mission while I slowly rebuild. He didn't have the OFFICER to solve Search and Rescue, so he headed down the spaceline. He flew over to Rescue Prisoners and solved in a turn, then over to our shared Eliminate Harvesters and cleared it, but was trapped by a Duonetic Field Generator. He played a 3rd engineer and a 5th (!) ship to get them back, while I started working on Establish Station. I luckily played my 2nd gun to get past Berserk Changeling and had a random Biology to pass Flaxian Assassin. It was now a race. I was able to squeak past all the dilemmas under the duplicate Kressari with my two hand weapons to win - very close.

Round 2Austin ChandlerFW (+100)
We duped FIVE missions, including all of my planets. Lots of dilemmas seeded. I start attempting at Eliminate Harvesters early, but a lucky Vanticka's - getting one of my Anthropology - means I can't clear my None Shall Pass. Nobody had Geology to get past Seismic Quake, so Austin went over to Cardassia while I managed to get through Establish Station in one go. He was trapped with a Duonetic Field Generator. I finally drew into a Geology and got through the dilemmas under Eliminate Harvesters, but didn't have Exo so it was empty for Austin. Fortunately, he didn't have the skills either, so I was able to play it and solve. I flew over to Kressari, and with 2x Lockbox points I didn't even need the handweapons. I got through most of the dilemmas, but was hit with an Aphasia Device and a Friendly Fire, leading to a slow drain of people. Fortunately for me, I had tons of OFFICER and Treachery left, so I was able to wait out the FF and solve. Austin just had tons of trouble drawing into ENGINEER to get his people off of Cardassia.

Round 3CardassianFederationMaggie GeppertFW (+65)
We duped three of our missions, including two of the space missions. I got Rinoj in my opening hand, we both played people, and I flew over to attempt Establish Station. I got through all but Chula: The Dice thanks to a lucky pull with Misguided Activist stopping my only unique, so no targets were left for Hate Crime. Fortunately, I had the missing attribute in hand so I passed next turn, but Maggie held me up with a well-timed Docking Procedures. Next turn I cleared all but None Shall Pass at another planet, while Maggie flew over to Reignite Dead Star and walked through my anti-ship combo for a solve, but she was ranged out. I got through Search for Survivors next turn to go up 65-35, but Maggie hit me with an Incoming Message - Cardassian to slow me down. She hit Aphasia Device and it clipped her only staffing, leaving her in trouble. I got through Eliminate Harvesters, but that gave me 100 points with no space mission. I took a shot at Kressari, which she'd partially cleared. I was stopped, and the mission was clear - so it was hers to steal. Fortunately, she had lost her mission skills to Aphasia Device and didn't have reinforcements, so I was able to solve it next turn for the win.

Closing Thoughts
Lots of duplicated missions, but it was a much different experience in sealed versus constructed. I do wish we'd been allowed to seed the Bajoran Wormhole, just to open up some options for the Gamma Quadrant. Greed was key in this format, letting me get past Lockbox all but one time I faced it. This was lots of fun! Thanks to Brian for running the event, and to Maggie, Austin, and Jason for some fun and exciting games.
