Elizabeth Holmes, Founder of Theranos, Peddles Bogus Blood Screenings |
Introduction |
I'd been meaning to try to make infiltration work, and it was appropriate to finally get the chance just before Halloween.
As we set our doorways out for the first round, someone noted that both me and Robert next to me were using Bajoran Wormholes.
Justin or Kris: "Are you guys playing the same deck?"
Robert (joking, apparently): "Dominion Infiltration?"
Me: "..." |

Round 1 | | Kris Sonsteby | FL (-100) |
I was super nervous for my first game with this deck. Kris goes first and downloads Telak. I manage to infiltrate and Dial Martok for Murder him on my second turn, though I actually would have been able to do it on my first. I establish a Blood Screening quarantine on his outpost, but he already has a decent crew flying around for LSWOT draws (which he was having trouble finding). Unfortunately for me, all the new universal Romulans have INTEGRIY>=5, so he only loses 2 personnel to Firestorm and only loses 1-2 turns on route to solving Access Archives for 65 points.
I attempt Internment Operations and have some trouble with Misinterpreted History, especially since I screw up my second attempt and forget to bring Laas. This exposes Science Advisor Borath to the kill selection, and makes me fail again.
Kris experiences a decent amount of resistance from my Misinterpreted History/Forsaken/Rules of Obedience combo at Vanquish Enemy, but eventually solves for the win. I was very close to solving a mission, but a long way from winning the game. |

Round 2 | | Justin Kaufman | FW (+100) |
Justin spends several turns building up forces at his time location, forcing me to save infiltration for a later opportunity. I attempt Internment Operations where I eventually hit an Emergent Life Form that sends my A Team through the Wormhole (after a discussion of whether that is legal, though we are not 100% sure). I muster a B Team, which knocks out a quick Cytherians and then gets the solve.
The infiltration opportunity comes when Justin attempts the space mission next to his homeworld and gets hit by The Cloud. The Walls Have Ears gets Martok Founder aboard, who Murders T'Pol, and then Issues Secret Orders for the end of the spaceline, which would take four turns (one way) since the ship was damaged. Insert Undercover Agent would have worn off by then, but being the jerk that I am, I grab End Transmission from my Tent to ensure that his rather substantial crew is out of play for the rest of the game. The other reason to End Transmission there was to get another turn to play the Walls Have Ears for 5 points, which would let me get a two-mission win.
Since Justin sent my A Team through the wormhole I was able to make lemonade from lemons and start attempting a planet mission there while I was still working on space in the GQ. The B Team brings in reinforcements and I get the the solve. 35-point space + 35-point planet + Cytherians + 3x The Walls Have Ears = 100 points. |

Round 3 | | Robert Petersen | ML (-68) |
This game was a complete mess. Hobie had a wild HBI/Jack Pack deck that only used space missions and used Baker Street to turn everyone into Holograms. I took way too long to make decisions because of all the curveballs he threw at me. I also drew poorly this game, probably because my deck was missing two KFC.
I get Lovok Founder aboard DS9 on turn 2 or 3 with plans to Murder Karen Loews. Unfortunately I can't Shape-Shift him into Martok Founder that turn as I had already used my personnel download on a Jem'Hadar in order to draw one of the pieces. So... I just walk over to Ops and commandeer the station, which at least prevents Robert from Ops downloading. On the other hand, I've invested too many resources into this that I should have invested in just drawing cards. Kira attacks the Founder, only for him to morph into a bird and fly away.
I attempt to Secure my Homeworld, but get intimidated by Contaminating a Culture, because while I have a downloadable Anthropology (Lam), I'm supposed to keep him safe for one of my AQ missions. In space, I get thwarted by Dejaren + Gold!.
Now Hobie comes to the GQ on the U.S.S. Defiant to attempt Chart Stellar Cluster, where my Treachery drain causes a slight delay, but he can bring in 2x Niles the next turn. I consider attacking, but consider that a waste of time as it won't prevent his solve, and I really need to take some actions that progress me towards the goal of winning the game. No time to wait for 3 Computer Skill, so I just attempt to pass Dejaren with 2 CS and a bunch of other personnel, passing back Gold!, and hoping to get lucky, which I am. But then I fail a Friendly Fire.
By this time, I've realized that I actually have infiltration icons that match my opponent's cards, and I've played Odo Founder aboard DS9. Except that he has nothing to do there, so he breaks cover and starts playing Dabo. Now I realize that this whole sequence was invalid, since the facility wasn't my opponent's DS9, it was my Terok Nor. Fun Fact: Hobie was planning on commandeering the station towards the end of the game so he could get Baseball points.
After his GQ solve, Hobie heads back to the AQ where he gets hit by The Cloud. With time winding down, I play Krajensky Founder aboard and Order the crew of the damaged Defiant to attempt the mission with the other copy of The Cloud, destroying it with all but one of Hobie's personnel on board. That would have given me time to catch up, except there was no time left on the clock, so I did it just for the sake of practicing that line of play. |

Closing Thoughts |
I actually think this deck has potential, it just needs a little more refinement and practice. I also now think that Dominion decks need to be two-mission win decks, because these bozos will take forever to solve three missions.
The question is, will I play this deck again soon, or will The Frozen Chosen succumb to Klingon Winter... |
