Round 1 | | Kris Sonsteby | FL (-65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Kris volunteered to play me first so he could give me pointers. He vomits cheap guys into play, while I slowly accumulate more expensive guys. I get some good hits with the "Select 3; all die unless cost > 5" on both planet and space. But Kris had a guy with 2 Anthro, which negated several of my dilemmas. I also had too many space-only dilemmas. Kris also had Dal'rok, which I ran into at least twice. But it was good fun and I made some smart plays which is all you can hope for with your first sanctioned game.
Pointers received: 2E limited is about lots of cheap personnel. Just throw basically everyone at mission attempts.
After this round I swapped some expensive dudes out for some cheap dudes, and cut my extra Space-only dilemmas. |
JTG was packing Romulan, but was comparatively slow out of the gate as his high cost personnel were quickly outnumbered by my cheap replacements. Despite getting tagged with Preventative Repercussions, I had Officer in spades to nail down Intercept Renegade and take the win in this warp speed affair. FW 100-35. |

Round 2 | | Robert Petersen | TT (0) |
Robert bids a buck to play me, so we get the showdown of the 1E specialists. I get an early peak at his hand, and see a Borg Cutting Beam, but it's still a surprise that he can overpower my D'deridex with his... Borg Sphere? I don't lose anyone important, though. We both eventually solve a mission. Another comical moment is when he names Romulan species for a dilemma. But alas, I had no Romulans aboard my Romulan ship, only Remans. On Robert's last turn, I cash in my event to search up two dilemmas to stop him and force the tie. |

Round 3 | | Matthew Hayes | FL (-65) |
I'm a little slow to get a ship here, but it comes soon enough (thanks to Damar, again). I can hold him off for a little while. "Kill 3 unless cost > 5" misses, but Temptation hits pretty well. Unfortunately a random stop here and there doesn't do a lot vs. Strength 8 dinosaurs. My plan on my last turn was to leave Romulus, drop off a crew at my 2nd planet, then clean up a space mission with several dilemmas underneath. However, since I attempted (and got stopped) at the planet before moving to space, I found out the hard way that stopped Remans don't give a Range bonus with Reman Mines. |

Round 4 | | Marcus Sonsteby | TT (0) |
Marcus gets an Excelsior and basically repeatedly throws the same ship and crew of ~7 at multiple missions, and it actually works pretty well for him. I'm managing to pick up my new guys and bring them to attempts, but if anything I'm going slower. He solves one mission, and gets a lot of dilemmas under another but is missing a skill (iirc). When time runs out, it's once again a matter of searching up two choice dilemmas for him. Archeological + Antedean would have done it, but one was in my initial draw and thus RFGed. I make a shot in the dark and hit, forcing a second tie of the day for both of us. |
