SFleet Samuels 5-30-11 |
Introduction |
I literally hadn't touched my cards since the regional. I felt like my old Starfleet Samuels deck would perform well against the Tragic Turn/Clown piles I typically see at local events. I can't remember the last time I'd played it in a tournament, and I was sure that most of the deck was still together, as most of the cards are pretty specific to the deck. |

Round 1 | | Bye | BY (0) |
We had an odd number of players today so I randomly got the first round bye. Instead of using this time to review an old deck, I pretty much just spaced out and didn't accomplish much. |

Round 2 | | Altoid | FW (+70) |
Tobin was rocking a different kind of cardassian deck. No Tain, or capture, but some seriously hard-core cheating. I was able to get personnel out blazing fast with Samuels, but my ships were all buried and it took me a while to get going. Once I did, I finished my space mission in two tries, then had enough people to double team each planet mission attempt for the rest of the game. Tobin's cheaters came up just short on a few occasions and I came away with the win. |

Round 3 | | Casey Wickum | FL (-70)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Casey is playing a TOS deck today. I was able to filter out Kirk pretty easily and I felt that I was stalling him well with my dilemma pile. I think if I had paid a little closer attention, I would have been more effective, He also never used Kirk when he was in play, so I stacked an extra dilemma at least twice. The story of this game was Casey's ability to stonewall my deck by identifying key-skill holes in medical and treachery. I had enough personnel out to triple team Restore Errant Moon. But Casey's 'return to pile' dilemmas and use of Infinite Diversity was more than enough to keep my legions at bay. |
Al was the second part of my two games vs Starfleet, however this time there was no Archer, and had a pretty cool mechanic of using the Nathan Samuels with a bunch of Future Non Human Enterprise people to play them quickly. But since they have no real way to double up skills, Most of my dilemmas would bounce. Or If that failed could fall back on Infinite Diversity and nail Treach again, including one time Where after a Triple attempt with 19 different people, Only 2 dilemmas were put under. Good stuff. |

Round 4 | | Amber Van Breemen | FL (-70) |
Amber is playing a legitimate version of Starfleet with 'damaged' personnel, Delphic Expanse missions, and event destruction. While I was able to dispatch Archer much like Kirk in the previous game, it didn't do me a whole lot of good. My personnel were unable to make much headway against Amber's dilemmas. I got some good ideas to update my deck while playing this game and vowed to put a little more effort into next months tournament before traveling to Iowa for a regional. |
