DS9-EarthVastly Inyo 1.0
Introduction
I got to the event 2 hours early to meet with new player Jon Carter. Jon had contacted me through the website stating that he'd like to learn to play 2E. With a strong 1E background, I directed Jon to Corbin for some online experience before our Sunday event. I was able to provide Jon with a streamlined DS9 Cadet Deck that I'd pretty much copied card-for-card from LORE. The deck has few weaknesses and is quick to learn and extremely forgiving. I was hoping Jon would pick up the basics quickly and have a fun day.

Round 1ByeBY (0)
Jon and I played a warm-up/instructional game before I got the first round BYE. He was able to defeat me in a close match with my first attempt at a DS9/E Inyo deck that also used Vastly Sisko and a Gorgan/Tactical Disadvantage dilemma pile. The cadets got a quick start and Jon made a good dilemma play at my first space attempt that ended with WNOHGB. That was the difference in the game as I wasn't able to slow down the speedy cadets to make up the difference.

Round 2CardassianMichael MoskopFW (+70)View opponent's Report
I never know what to expect from Michael. I believe he spends a lot more time building and tweaking decks than I do, and he's quickly becoming a talented player. However, he also brings decks that are more achievement oriented than victory oriented, so I'm not looking forward to the day that I'm caught off guard. My first sanctioned test with the Inyo deck went fairly well. I was able to get my 4-species, bonus points, Inyo, a ship and Vastly Sisko fairly early. Michael was able to start attempting a turn before I did however and I saw a lot of the Tacking Cardassians come into play as well as Commandeer Prototype. I was afraid my dilemma pile would have limited effect against him because I was expecting his deck to match me ship-for-ship. I got a good dilemma draw at his first attempt and was able to dump his hand with The Dreamer and the Dream. This gave me a lot more confidence in my dilemma pile when I saw a couple ships discarded. I was then able to stall him at CP for several turns with Gorgan and Tactical Disadvantage. Meanwhile, my away teams were plugging away at missions. Vastly Sisko was naming An Issue of Trust at every attempt and I was able to solve missions relatively quickly. Michael made a mistake at my last mission thinking that Sisko's ability ended at the end of a mission attempt instead of at the end of turn. His last stack included An Issue of Trust and I won the game just after he was moving off of CP.

Round 3TOSCasey WickumFL (-35)View opponent's Report
Casey was playing the TOS deck he used to great success at the MN Nationals recently. I wasn't too concerned with his draw deck, but he plays his dilemma pile like a fiddle and that's really what matters. I was unfortunately ship screwed for the first half of the game. I was afraid this game would end quickly because 15% my dilemma pile relies on me having high cost cards (ships) in my hand. Fortunately for me, Casey went planet first and I was able to stall him with classic 1-card stops like Necessary Execution, In Development, Moral Choice, and Rogue Borg Ambush. I even got a Dreamer to go off, giving me a chance to stay in the game. By the time I finally drew a ship Casey was still working on his first planet mission. I attempted my space mission with Kirk there and was able to complete on my first try when Casey made a slight mistake. Casey quickly recovered, however, stopping me easily at my planet mission and getting a good start on his space mission. I still didn't have multiple ships in hand for Gorgan/TD abuse, and my dilemma pile was running out of tricks fast. This epic game went into overtime and Casey was able to secure the win, stopping me with his signature Infinite Diversity + Random Skill that I didn't have. I was really surprised that I had such a tough time securing a ship in this game, but I was also very happy to see my dilemma pile hold on long enough to give me a chance to win. My biggest mistake was using Sisko to name An Issue of Trust at every attempt when I know that Casey doesn't own a copy of the card!
