Donatra and... (the kitchen sink) v1.2 |
Introduction |
Haven't had much time to work on anything new, so I went with my only deck unaffected by errata this month. I couldn't quite will this deck to victory today, but still had fun playing. |
|
Round 1 | | Brian Leonard | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Brian was playing a TNG Battleship deck today. I was able to score points and download necessary cards with Tal and The Viceroy. Everything worked great and I kept Brian from solving any missions. |
I played against Al. |

Round 2 | | Corbin Johnson | FL (-80)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Corbin's well practiced Relativity deck got off to a hot start. I had a tough time finding a ship but scored points easily with GUYS and P&P. Unfortunately, I missed opportunities to spend those points to stall Corbin. I could have spent them on an Endangered at his first space mission to get potentially stall him another turn. I also missed an opportunity to shuffle my dilemma pile with Alvera to get a chance at Insurrection at his last mission. I also had a bad mix of skills and just couldn't get my first mission done. Corbin played well, but I certainly didn't put up much of a fight. |
I joked with Al that this match had happened before twice and we'd split the win 1-1 so this would be the game to prove the true victor. However, I think we've only played Future Vs. Romulans once before (but I forget who won it). In any event, luck was on my side as Al didn't play a ship until after I had solved my first mission (I think) and he left a hinderance on the table (although I was concerned that he was going to just go for a two mission win with the 20 bonus points he had scored by the time I was attempting my final mission). A lucky ordering of dilemmas in my stack to him after a Picard shuffle kept him from donatra'ing a Chandra I threw him at his first mission which gave me an extra turn to eek out my win. Although he'd not solved a mission by the time I won, he probably could have won on his next turn (It's Al! He's an amazing player!) |

Round 3 | | Michael Moskop | FL (-30)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Michael is playing a very clever "No-Rule" Ferengi thief deck that appeared to be going for a 2-mission win with 2 40-point missions and a variety of bonus points options. I had a tough time getting a ship again and did not score as many bonus points as I would have liked after he Thief'd my GUYS (which he was able to use to score points - LOL). I stalled him at his first space mission for quite a while, but practically gave the game away at his planed mission when he used Bank Heist to gain Intelligence off my personnel and solve my Rogue Borg Ambush. I was far behind and had to start attempting with a smaller crew than I would have liked. I knew Michael was playing TT/ACE/Clown but I failed to use the Picard Shuffle at my first attempt to disrupt his stack. I wouldn't get the chance again as Picard was consumed by evil along with 8 other personnel throughout the game. ACE was recycled several times thanks to Bold Plan and my pseudo comeback (fueled by a well played WNOHGB) came up short. |
Al had his Romulan deck so I assumed I was done for. I guess I got extremely lucky because my starting hand was amazing and Al seemed to have problems drawing a ship. I also never really saw an appearance from Donatra either during the game. My Thieves got off to a very fast start, so fast even that I completed Ariannus Passage before I even had enough Thieves to play Display of Wealth. I did have the Enterprise-A though so I did score an extra 5 points. Then I attempted Purchase Moon and on the second attempt I robbed the Bank of Romulus! What I mean is that I beat Rogue Borg Mercenaries by playing Bank Heist and using the Intelligence from one of Al's Romulans! That got me another 45 points. I was able to score 5 from a stolen Getting Under Your Skin as well and after some time, was able to finish the game with Orion Underworld. These Thieves are insane. |

Closing Thoughts |
This deck really has troubles dealing with the speed of Relativity and the killing power of the ACE pile. I'm definitely going to have to review the skill selection of the personnel, I always feel like I'm coming up short on some missions. Next week starts our League format events; Virtual format is first, so I hope to play something completely different. |
