Kira Dissidents - 08 |
Introduction |
It's the start of our League events and we're doing a different 2E format each time. This month it's Traditional and I'm bringing back a Dual HQ Spock/Kira Dissident deck that I used to LOVE to play around the time that the CC took over. I made a Skill based dilemma pile for achievements. Unfortunately, I didn't spend any time practicing with the deck and I didn't play very well with it. The dilemma pile especially suffered because of this. |
|
Round 1 | | Edward Pigman | FL (-70) |
Ed was rolling Starfleet and we both got off to slow starts. I was looking for Kira, and he was looking for mission skills. I didn't keep a good eye on the people that were hitting the table and my first dilemma stack ended with a Gomtuu that was met with 5 Diplomacy and Ed jumped out to an early lead. He slowed me down by destroying my events with Grav Traps, but I got to spend my points on Kira and got the dissident team rolling. I should have micro-teamed much more in this game, I kept going with too many people in space and I probably could have solved IAP with 4 people if I needed to. I had a chance to come back when Ed grabbed the wrong skills for his final attempt, but a timely Excalbian foiled my best effort and Ed got the win. |

Round 2 | | Maggie Geppert | FW (+25) |
Maggie was playing Klingon and NA personnel in a very strange build. I got Tal and events out early and was rolling with the Dissident team. Her dilemma pile was making use of classic cards like Urgency and Overwhelmed, so I used Picards ability to shuffle one of her stacks and just missed getting a mission solved. Close game, but I edged out the win. |

Round 3 | | Michael Moskop | FL (-100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Michael is playing probably the best deck possible in the format; Klingon Riker Sword. I had my worst start in this game; drawing all dissidents, not getting the scoring events going, and not finding Kira (crutch) early enough. Even an early Tal didn't help much. I ended up having to spend whatever points I had on Endangered just to stall him at his missions and it just wasn't enough. |
Al was playing Romulan dissidents, and I admit that after a couple turns, I forgot that he even put Cardassia Prime out on the table. Al had a very slow start getting his people out and my deck was not cooperating with his Tal or P&P. I got a very lucky break with Unbelieveable Emergency stopping two and killing two at one point. Again, I was able to get my skills out early and do a lot of microteaming to get the win. |

Closing Thoughts |
I wish I had written a few tournament reports from playing this deck back in the day. I totally forgot that micro-teaming was such an important part of the strategy. First attempting with 9 and second attempting with 4-5 would be ideal.
Interesting observation, last month was our BoT release event in which Phase 2 was in full swing. At least 1 game every round went to time last month. This month's traditional event, I don't think any game came within 10 minutes of the time limit. So, is Phase 2 really speeding up the game or not?
Next month is Virtual format, I've already got my deck planned, hopefully I'll have time to actually practice a game or two. |
