Tournament Report - 1E Modern - Online Event
2011-10-31 - 12:00 AM
BorgFinger Lickin' Good 1.1
Introduction
I played a slightly modified version of my deck from the first online league tournament. Dropped Data, as I didn't have issues getting a Queen and Locutus early in the previous tournament. Also switched to a back up ship with fewer staffing requirements and added a Multiplexor Drone just in case.

Round 1FederationDanny NuttallFL (-70)
Two words: Transport Inhibitor. Such a frustrating card. Having not had much tournament experience after the release of Holodeck Adventures, I guess I must of completely overlooked that card. Danny was playing an FF:RL deck so I was feeling kinda bad for him, knowing I was going for Stop First Contact. Well, I had the first turn, saw my opening draw had a Queen and Locutus so was feeling good about the game. Got the Tactical Cube staffed and flying towards Earth. Danny managed to get his EE staffed, with AMS, Worf, a free Riker, and the afore mentioned Transport Inhibitor, which he got to Earth and locked me out of for the rest of the game. I wasn't really sure what to do next as my deck is so focused there is no plan B to winning. Then I noticed we were both playing small decks and might be able to get a win on deck out, the race was on. I completed SS for 30 points and he completed Analyze Radiation for 30 points both relatively early. We each got down to a sliver of a deck, he was at 3 and I at 4 at the start of his turn. Unfortunately for me, he solved a second mission to go to 65 and drew down to 1 card. I decided to let him finish out his game to get to 100 points. Looks like in this instance Insurrection beats First Contact. Note to self: Add Orbital Bombardment.

Round 2Diane HainFW (+100)
This game I was paired against Diane. I had played her in my first online tournament after my return to the game. She had played Bajorans then, and I had a strange inkling I would see them again. I was wrong. As it turns out she was running a DQ Holo-Deck. Unfortuanately for her, she wasn't very familiar with it. I got a quick start in this game, completing the scouting of Earth on Turn 3. Sadly, I ended up hitting a bad probe and didn't complete SFC till turn 5. Diane did get Cyrus Redblock out and was requesting the item each turn, and I gave her the free plays. I wasn't sure how fast of a solver she had and didn't want to give her to many free points. She did make it through the dilemmas at Answer Distress Signal but couldn't solve. I ended up clearing Wolf 359 on turn 6 and completing Secret Salvage on turn 7 for the win.

Round 3KlingonsnoovaFW (+100)
Snoova was playing Klingon and I was a slightly worried I would be seeing the mah'nlv craziness the boards have been talking about, but it didn't show. This was a fairly one sided game. Snoova did get a couple of mission attempts in, but my SFC just proved to efficient for his deck. I knocked out SFC by turn 5 and wrapped up the game with a 2 turn Secret Salvage for the win. After the game I found out he did have a mah'nlv but it wasn't the focus of the deck. Fun game none the less.

Round 4StarfleetChristopher CoyleFW (+35)
Without a doubt, this was the closest match this tournament for me. Christopher was playing a Starfleet deck with some of the "mirror" craziness. I was a little worried at my opening hand, I didn't have Locutus, but it worked out on the Masaka. Earth ended up in the middle of the spaceline, so it took me a few turns to get there. In the mean time Chris was clearing dilemmas with a swiftness thanks to D'vela. With this sneaky Orion, he managed to walk through Personal Duty/Friendly Fire without having Leadership in his attempting crew and solve his first mission, Automated Repair Station, on turn 2. I managed to complete Stop First Contact next on turn 6, quickly followed by his Evaluate Terraforming the following turn. Fortunately for me, his third mission was protected by Radioactive Garbage Scow and his Enterprise with Grappling Hook was not at the mission. I managed to finish up SS on turn 8 for the win, 100-65. Very close and good game.
