Introduction |
I'd been looking forward to this tournament in Weiden and the opportunity to play some other high-level folks. Was wondering if the Czechs would show up unannounced (as they are prone to do) but lo, they did not. The weekend was uncharacteristically Tragic Turn heavy for a tournament in our region, even the newbies were using it. I'll give Neil some credit for inspiring everyone :-) |

Round 1 | | Tobias Rausmann | FW (+65) |
Tobias was playing his new BR guys. Luckily, for me, he hadn't developed any crazy new tech that I hadn't seen before- so they remained squarely on Tier 2. I was surpised to see Tragic Turn paired with BR, so the first mission attempts on both sides were slaughters. After that, the Klingons did what they do best, which is download every possible card they need and I cruised to a two-mission win on the back on K'eyhler and a 20-point engagement. |

Round 2 | | Johannes Klarhauser | FW (+35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Johannes was playing Borg assimilator, which I had been playtesting against, so I felt pretty good, but I knew this would be my toughest matchup. He pulled a first turn Klingon Tea Ceremony (out of 80 cards!) so I had to wait until Korath came out to be able to use Alexander Rozhenko. Luckily for me, Johannes was terrified of attempting a mission so that gave me plenty of time to play equipment and destroy all of this events including two Quintessences. I also made a bold move trading my Mara for his Borg Queen with Exchange Program. This turned out to be a good decision as he didn't draw another queen. When the mission attempts finally did happen, we both faired pretty well and Johannes was attempting his final mission when time rang. An Ineqitable Exchange allowed me to pluck Mara out of the pack and set Johannes below the number of skills he needed for Transport Crash Survivor. Since Johannes went first, I got another turn and drew a BaH! to get the final 30 points I needed to get the FW. |
Tyler had Korath on the table early on, and thanks to his Trellium-D and ETUs, he not only wiped my side of the table clean of any Quintessences and Energizes consistently, but also survived a lot of my dilemmas unscathed. With Grav-Plating Traps he held me off when I could have played a battle card to finally assimilate someone. In the end, I got a couple of his people, and even walked through my planet mission without a lot of resistance, but couldn't cough up the 16 skills for Transport Crash Survivor. Tyler flew over before time was called and battled me for the missing points. |

Round 3 | | Kathleen Fultz | FW (+100) |
Katie was using the fun DS9-No-Stop deck I had used last tournament. Unfortunately, the Tragic Turns were hurting her and causing stafing problems. This game was no different and I hung the Bollerophon out to dry at Kressari Renzedvous. She'll need more, smaller ships next time. |

Round 4 | | Christopher Coyle | FW (+65) |
Chris is a new player in 2E, but he brings a lot of 1E acumen over to his 2E game. I was again surprised to see a BR deck running Tragic Turn. However, unlike Tobias, he wasn't running Genetronic Treatment, so my Tragic managed to destaff him at his first mission attempt. BR Opaka and Kira let him come back strong though, and, by my last mission attempt, I was sweating a bit. |
