Tournament Report - 2E Standard - Vandros IV Regional

BorgJareshhh!!!!!
Introduction
Decided to give Borg a spin this time. I've never played them in a big event, but this slimmer version of the assimilator appealed to me more than the traditional Euro-Borg.

Round 1RomulanMarco PuelschFW (+60)
Marco was playing his high cost Romulans, which I'd seen before. He, however, didn't seem truly prepared for what was coming and lost several people to his opening mission attempt and I promtply assimilated the remainders. The rest of the game was a swift K&E session to victory.

Round 2KlingonTjark OttFW (+30)View opponent's Report
Tjark was playing Klingons, which are the hardest matchup for Borg in playtesting. Luckily for me Tjark was running less equipment than other builds I've seen and no Grav-Plating Traps. This allowed me to play events without too much worry of them being destroyed. A Left Behind at his first mission attempt gave me the assimilated personnel I needed (including Kruge). From there, K&E allowed me to push through the rest of the dilemmas for the victory.

Round 3DS9-EarthJohannes KlarhauserFL (-70)View opponent's Report
Johannes dropped DS9 E, which I am still impressed by. This is probably the first time DS9 E has ever won a regional. The game started on a bad foot with Johannes and I playing the same dilemma pile. This meant my Unfair Comparison fizzled at his firt mission attempt and he auto-completed. The second error was to not play my K&E when Johannes played Caretaker's Guests. The result was me losing my only assimilated personnel and never really recovering. From there, I couldn't keep Johannes from completing his missions. So, ultimately, I committed several errors in this game that ultimately cost me the victory. Johannes, on the other hand, played flawlessly, so the loss was entirely deserved. Note to self: deck needs more event destruction.

Round 4BorgThomas SchneiderFW (+100)
The mirror matchup. I knew this would be in my favor since my deck relied much less on keeping out Quintessence than his did. To further stack the odds, I drew and amazing hand of Fourth/Quintessence and got the Historical Research download. So I was more than ready to win the Two of Nine race. The rest of the game consisted of Thomas spending 5 counters a turn to recycle Three and Two of Nine and destroy one event a turn, while I got around to completing my missions.

Round 5CardassianPeter van der HelmTT (0)View opponent's Report
Peter came with a capture build, which is always a threat to Borg. This was compounded by me foolishly failing to get the Queen into play. Capture ended up not being a huge threat, but the game nevertheless went very slowly partially thanks to my frequent Two of Nine use, but also Peter's slow playing. The game ended one turn away from me completing Assess Contamination which would have likely been the end.
