Tournament Report - 2E Standard - North American Continentals Day One
2011-07-16 - 10:00 AM
KlingonChallenge Accepted
Introduction
I had the choice between Maquis or Klingons. Decided on the Klingons because I wanted to make sure that I had the full wins since that would be more problematic with the Maquis that I had in mind. That's why I brought multiple decks. I'm not sure it was still the right call but it got me into Day 2 and that's the important thing.

Round 1Earned ByeEB (+100)
Gotta love the bye.

Round 2BorgEric RFL (-30)
He was playing Borg assimiliation which meant that I needed a good draw at Assimiliate Resistance... which I didn't really get. He got probably 5 of my personnel over the course of the game but my dilemmas somehow seemed to keep killing my personnel. The game was 85-60 and the turn before my final turn, I do something stupid. I take the Qel'poh and attempt to steal Locutus' Borg Cube since I didn't think that he had any ships left. The problem was - Qel'poh + Point Blank Strike = 11 which is the same as his Shields, costing me a valuable turn. Combine that and not drawing a second Baht'qul to get the score closer so that he couldn't burn all of his Endangereds cost me the win. Thankfully, we had gotten through the turn before so that he could get the full win.

Round 3TOSCharlie PlaineFW (+100)
He had Assess Contamination which made my dilemma pile sad however my draw deck was rocking. I had made it through all of my missions in three turns as his dilemma pile was not helping him out at all. He had gotten one attempt in.

Round 4VoyagerAmber Van BreemenFL (-70)
The problem with this game was that it seemed like almost nothing I did was working. I had gotten almost everything I needed to deal with her Voyager early - Kruge, ship, Point Blank Strike... everything except a Leadership personnel. By the time that I could, she was going at Inversion Mystery. I got the worst draw ever - 3 ACE's, 2 Entanglements, Toe to Toe, and 2 Bold Plans. She named Clown: Guillotine, taking out almost all of the remaining killing dilemmas left. I stole Voyager at her planet mission and I had Nu'Daq in hand, hoping that I could use him to steal her second Voyager but she Dukat'd the event away and even with using all three ACE's to name Leadership, she kept using Navaar to give someone else Leadership and I was never able to kill Navaar so that I might have had some possible chance of having Dignitaries to work but to no avail.

Round 5TNGDS9Chris DonatiFW (+30)
Dual-HQ makes Final Adventure happy as was the Guinan points which meant that I had to only solve two missions. The pile was working fine and was able to steal his Excelsior away, getting captives in the process. Still, he was making his way through two of the missions. I needed to either solve Brute Force first or steal his Enterprise-D but the Brute Force option came through in the end.

Round 6BajoranMatt KirkFW (+100)
Matt was playing Bajorans but his draw deck was failing him in the worst way. My deck was kicking, eventually managed to use one of the three Kang/Kor/Koloth (whichever adds +2 to Integrity) to get around Gomtuu. Then, it was just a matter of grinding through the planet missions which I was able to do before he was able to get out to attempt missions.
