Fed x5 |
Introduction |
Since the Warp Pack had new TNG Fed cards (and since the last time I had played them was while Time Travel Pod beat me up in a burlap sack at an Iowa regional), I thought I'd give them a shot. Coupled with the only other free play engine (Scientific Diplomacy), I just grabbed cards and went. |

Round 1 | | Mark | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
He was playing Illegit Klingons. I never saw the Enterprise and with my poor 5 Shield stolen ship made me increasingly wary of Spaceborne Entity so I focused on planets, managing to work through two planets (thanks to a handy War Room) to boost my attributes to more than adequate levels. He was getting smacked and walled with my random dilemmas that I was worried he was going to fly over to blow up my ship instead. Thankfully he had his side of the spaceline and I had mine. I left enough people behind at my outpost with mission skills before I mega-teamed space (confidence = Isomag in hand) but they pushed through for the win. |
Round 1 - vs The Ninja Scot:
Oh dear, this deck didn't work out as well as it did in testing. Illegitimate-compatible Klingons have a bunch of special downloads, and of the 6 people in the deck who would get me a CM draw, a grand total of none of them showed up in my hand.
I had a reasonable start personnel-wise, though, so I started throwing people at missions.
I started at Renovate Starbase, of course. Losta got through Wind Dancer, and we got stopped by Encased In Crystal. I don't think any Security showed up.
Hmm, maybe Officer Exchange Program would have been helpful after all.
I redshirted Navigate Argolis Cluster and got Dead Ended.
Mr Van Breemen attempted to secure Earth. Arsenal Separated was first, stopping three people. Dal'Rok selected Barron, but including him was just about overcome. Darn. Data Has Some Issues stopped Riker, who was swiftly cured. Ferengi Infestation stopped him.
I moved along to Salvage Borg Ship. Think I threw one of the Sisters to redshirt, didn't pass Picking Up The Pieces. I threw Ja'rod to take care of that, then threw three more at the rest. Paralyzed By Fear took out Losta, Hunter Probe selected the other two, my Mission Specialists. Linguistic hit, with a counter of 5. Joy.
MVB ASPd for Sito Jaxa, and passed Ferengi Infestation. Earth was solved (+40).
On the same turn, with no danger of In The Zone, he attempted Visit Tranquil Colony.
Picking Up The Pieces stopped 4, Barron continued. Flim-Flam got me a draw, MENDOZA! had Law and plenty of people contributed an abundance of Cunning to pass. Enough people were around to beat Dangerous Climb on Strength. The mission was solved (+35 =75).
I threw people at my next mission, Surgery Under Fire. Lethean Telepathic Attack disabled Lursa.
Michael attempted at Host Metaphasic Shielding Test. Precision Piloting/Devastating Communique/Subspace Shock Wave hit. Kwan and Lopez bit the dust.
I reattempted. Murder Investigation failed to stop anyone (no Security out yet). I got stopped by Dignitaries And Witnesses, no Generals and only one-and-a-half Leadership.
MVB passed Chula The Dice and solved the mission (+40 =115).
Good game. I did terrible.
Final score: The Ninja Scot got 115, I got 0. |

Round 2 | | Chris A. Mead | FW (+100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
He was playing a Here by Invitation deck that had better but less people than I. In this game, I was having a hard time drawing anything like HQ Secure Homeworld or any draw engine cards so I dropped everyone I had and went after missions. It seemed that, after every stop, I would draw into the personnel I needed to pass that dilemma. He almost solved one of his missions (Access Relay Station I think) but I got through my last mission for the win. |
Round 2 FL 100-0
vs. The Ninja Scot's TNG Federation + Metaphasic shielding science guys. I made another play mistake in this game, by not immediately downloading Miles O'Brien with ops. This would come up when I realized that neither him nor Muniz have the right lore to report aboard the USS Defiant. Also, the play engines in block TNG feel far superior to what is available to DS9. New Arrivals actually feels like a bit of a liability in that it wants to restrict me from playing too many free guys; something I'll be looking at in round 3. Michael was able to roll out and attempt missions much more quickly than I was, with a more equipped crew, and there wasn't much I could do about it but rely on my dilemmas to hold. They did not! The mighty Federation was too much for me. Still, had fun. Every game is a big learning experience for me, since this is roughly my fourth 1e game... ever. I had fun, and Michael is a cool guy. |

Round 3 | | Niall Matthew | FW (+70) |
Four missions duplicated so I put the odd strange dilemmas at one mission and the Dead End at the other. Ultimately, he did get through one mission as I chose the wrong two people to kill with Hunter Probe instead. I worked through our shared IMA and went to my non-duplicated space mission. He stalled after that and, instead of going to try to steal our duplicated planet for the win, I managed to one-attempt solve Earth by drawing finally (i.e. last four cards left) HQ Secure Homeworld for the win, solving in one attempt. |

Closing Thoughts |
Good times... and even better once I get my achievements for this tournament. |
