Introduction |
Things didn't really go my way for the UK Nationals. Oh, well. I never really had high hopes, and I had a good time anyway. :) |

Round 1 | | Unjustly Banned | FL (-95)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
I got a good start in my first game, against James, with a good opening hand, GUYS out early, card draws from Raptor One and Surprise Party, and a couple of free plays each turn. This good fortune was all rapidly undone when an injudicious mission attempt stumbled upon "God" and everybody died in the pitiless vacuum of space. I spent the rest of the game striving to catch up, but it was too late, and the Hirogen cruised to victory due to my foolishness. |
Marcus was playing Romulan. He dropped Getting Under Your Skin early, and was using Q the Referee to download and play events. I got lucky though, and only gave up 5 points to that throughout the whole game. I was also lucky, and God destroyed Marcus' ship with a lot of his personnel aboard. While he rebuilt his personnel, I worked my way through three missions for the win.
I went into this tournament hoping to get one victory (against Will). I was pleasently surprised when I was victorious in this game.

Round 2 | | William Hoskin | FL (-17)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
I led for much of the game, and things were looking pretty good for the Romulans for a while. Will's Kazon were no slouches either though, and we both tenaciously ploughed through one another's dilemmas to complete missions. At close to time I was on 95 points and hoping for a successful probe from GUYS next turn for the win... but Will had cleared all the dilemmas under one of his missions, and completing it on his next and final turn would win him the game. My crew was at an unattempted mission... maybe I could get through it in one go and beat Will to it without waiting for GUYS? Hell why not, I'll beam *everyone* down and super-team it! On 95 points, what's the worst that could happen, right?
The Higher… The Fewer |
Marcus was playing a load of free people to the outposts and I was lucky that not many of them had science so my combo Scientific method, hipocratic oath and Unscietific method held up Marcus at his first mission. We both battered away hitting dilemmas and crashing through missions. Marcus was on 95 and all I had to do was survive a probe and I would win next turn. Firtunately not a personnel so i could breathe again and go on for the win. |

Round 3 | | Niall Matthew | TT (0)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Niall never fails to bring decks which are not only competitive but also *interesting*, and this tournament was no exception. He'd stacked his huge Borg deck with masses of SoG Borg Queens; having drawn one he, used both her downloads of We Are the Borg straight away, then killed her with his own Reactor Overload before flipping Long Live the Queen to download her more useful FC persona. He then used Three of Nine to cycle out the unnecessary Queens from his hand for the rest of the game, and using the draws to download drones like a boss.
Oh, and he Stopped First Contact. Did I mention that? My Raptor One did its best to prevent him probing for it by battling, even to the point of following him back to the past and twice(!) surviving direct hits from a Borg Cube in retaliation (thanks, Tactics! *Thactics*). But in the end, it was for naught, and the game went to time with me just barely scraping a 40-40 draw thanks to a mission specialist and GUYS.
This was the most tense, interactive and enjoyable game of the day for me. :) |
Marcus was playing Romulan with Raptor One.
The game was pretty much a stalemate all through, he was focused on stopping my Borg from probing.
Despite being stalled by a Romulan Drone Ship. I stopped FC using some very unorthodox moves.
Our continuous stalling of each other led to a tie, but a very good game. ---

Round 4 | | Kevin Jackson | FL (+45)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Kevin was playing DQ Feds which allowed him to super-team past my poorly-selected combos (oh, for a Higher… The Fewer!). By contrast, my warbird was quickly stung by a deadly combo of his, and my personnel found themselves trapped aboard a ship of babbling death with an Aphasia device taking the wits of those who weren't killed by the Macrovirus. Credit to the Romulans though - they did manage to complete the mission and begin the next one before they all succumbed. Luckily my GUYS probed successfully four or five times in this game, getting me some bonus points to supplement the meagre mission points - otherwise the margin of Kev's wn would have been even greater. Well played, sir. |
In this game my deck seamed to start quite slowly compared to Marcus' deck. By the time i got going i was around 50 points behind but my (place on ship) combo worked a treat, by then i had a good crew and managed to complete my mission with only a few (lucky) loses. |
