Tournament Report - 2E
2013-11-17 - 11:00 AM
Introduction
Wow. I feel a little guilty having brought a competitive traditional deck to this tournament. I netdecked a Starfleet quick mission solver from Donati(?) and just wanted to bring something that works but wasn't broken (such as MVB's micro-teaming deck). I had fun... but I'm not sure if anyone else did.

Round 1KlingonEric BiecheFW (+100)
Eric showed up graciously with a Klingon Starter and two packs of Second Edition. He borrowed a dilemma pile from Maggie (TT Stopper) and in a triumph to the Second Edition designers had a deck that didn't suck. Although it wasn't wicked fast, it at least allowed Eric fairly good skill coverage and ships that were not outclassed. Plus, he had a way to deal with my phoenix which is pretty awesome. In fact, Eric pulled off a "Render Assistance" in his game against Mike. That's something I'll probably never see again.

Round 2Terok NorStarfleetMichael MoskopMW (+35)View opponent's Report
Mike figured out that he couldn't win after our game was over. Regardless, his phoenix held me to a mod-win (if I had only not played that At What Cost?!?!) but his Terok Nor / Starfleet build was really cool. Many thanks to mike for bringing physical copies of missions for me as I got rid of all of my non-foil/premium missions because they're all printable.

Round 3KlingonMaggie GeppertFW (+90)View opponent's Report
Maggies angry Klingons were bent on seeing some explosions. I did manage to get out a prefix codes though by solving the Automated Repair Station on the same turn that the prefix codes went on my ship. Got three missions solved in relatively short order but not without a lot of hemming and hawing about sympathetic magic. What a great dilemma!

Closing Thoughts
I really do enjoy the rare chance to play traditional 2E. I basically never played 2E until the CC era and playing in these tournaments shows me the ups and downs of what decipher tried to do. This was the first time I'd ever played with Machinations and I also learned that Skeleton Crew is vital in this format.
