Introduction

Round 1BorgJoshua SheetsFL (-100)
Oh Borg! I might've stayed in this game, despite its Borgfulness, except that I foolishly failed to play around "God". I was still able to move (thanks Hidden Fighter!), but lost my ability to report to the GQ. Flying home meant deactivating my Cross-Quad draws, and my hand full of Better Alternatives weren't doing me much good. Josh bought me some time by failing to Harness any Particles, but that just gave me enough time to tank my points into the negative.

Round 2FederationHirogenorbirshiFW (+100)
I felt really bad here, because I noticed that his kickstart didn't work, and his deck never really took off as a result. Newton couldn't download to the Hirogen Outpost - while Children of Light allowed holographic personnel to mix and cooperate, it didn't make them compatible with ships or facilities. Worse, Einstein couldn't get downloaded anywhere with Assign Support Personnel. Without the Poker Game operational, this game became pretty lopsided.

Round 3BajoranRichard CrandallFL (-30)
This game very very close, very exciting. I have to admit, the main reason it was as close as it was is that I kept rolling well on Quantum Incursions. Richard even had Empathy - Lwaxana had helped him bust through the Rules of Obedience before it by downloading the Odo that had been killed at the start of the dilemma in order to pass the back half - but the AU requirements kept popping up. Fortunately for him, when I came back to the AQ for my 3rd mission, I slammed straight into a Spatial Rift wall. It kept killing my Engineers - the luck I'd had with QI had turned against me. This bought Richard enough time to sweep through 3 missions in one turn. It may have hurt me to have In the Zone banned, but I'd rather lose a close game than win because people can't come back from behind.

Round 4FederationSidney ThomersonFW (+25)
Out of one nail-biter, into another! Many of my stall dilemmas, like Ferengi Bug, fall flat against the equipment-heavy TOS crew. Sidney was running a couple 40 point missions, but I've never been especially good at planning mission theft. Scout/Quantum is a great combo for stealing though, so I got out to an early lead that way.

That's when I went astray. Sidney had left one of his weak little TOS ships out in the open, and I thought I'd deliver the killing blow by hopping over there, pulling up the Cha'Joh with Hidden Fighter since I didn't need it for Scout Encounter anymore, and wiping out a stacked Enterprise. Captain's Log wasn't out, what could go wrong?

Turns out, Kirk can SD Captain's Log. So the Enterprise didn't die, and then he swept back on his turn and blew up my Keldon Advanced with his ISS and Starship Enterprises. Oops. Kirk and the Enterprise died, but I was completely reset. I had to slowly build back up (I still had cross-quad draws thanks to leaving a shuttle in the GQ), while Sidney knocked down two missions in rapid succession.

His other 40-point mission had the combo ending in Ferengi Bug, and that's where he headed next. I'd cleared one HQ down to a Quantum Incursion that I'd never get through, and the other down to a Dead End; I didn't have much hope. However, when Sidney hit the Bug, he was 1 Security short, and left the mission wide open. I was able to drop another ship, chain over to the mission, and then back to the Dead Ended mission to win. Phew, so close.

Closing Thoughts
Atlanta's 1E masters was fun!
