Introduction

Round 1RelativityDaniel MattesonFW (+65)
The most heart-pounding play of the tournament for me happened in this game. Dan attempted a space mission with 10 (5 dilemmas under), and I drew (among other things) a Gomtuu and a Chandra. The Chandra was a gamble, that on average wouldn't do much more than stop a few people that couldn't be in his next attempt. Gomtuu, on the other hand, had the potential to be an all-stop with none under because he had no Security Drills and I could not, for the life of me, think of another Diplomacy he had in play. That said, I hadn't been tracking it (it's one of the less likely skills to hit with Rapid Progress), so it was a risk.

I went for it, and it hit. What's more, so did the second one on the next turn, which stranded Dan at that mission for the rest of the game. My brain was kinda pudding after that one.

Round 2StarfleetTobias RausmannFW (+70)
Speaking of brain pudding - Tobias dropped Archer on turn one, and given his missions were typical Neu SF fare, I assumed it was Neu Archer. When I gave him Chula -> Gomtuu on his first mission attempt, I discovered that it was actually Delphic Archer (which I should have figured out when he played Spatial Reconfiguration).

Gifting SF a mission can be deadly, so I was pretty sure I lost it right there. Fortunately, he milled his one copy of Accelerated Aging, so my wall-heavy pile was able to hold him off long enough to win (despite all the counters hitting my Covenants).

Round 3FerengiJohn CorbettFL (-65)
This deck is probably a better match-up for John's Ferengi than my SF deck was. Slightly better pile match-up, and the Bajorans are a bit better at solving on average (though after seeing 2x Excalbian and 1x Outmatched, SF may have had an edge there). I realized the first time he did the Par Lenor thing that he could save a copy of #141 for use against my Gorgans. Even though John hadn't put it together, he never revealed a third #141, so I had to hedge pretty hard with my Gorgans. Not a huge issue, since they're susceptible to Reyga anyways.

As the video evidence can attest, this was about as low-stress as a final can get. We both had a good time, and we were within a turn of each other by the end. Even though I didn't win, it was a good way to end the tournament.

Closing Thoughts
If I can remind my opponent to use Arridor's ability on the final crucial mission attempt of the World Championships, so can you!
