Introduction |
The block tournament was the scene of many mirror matches. |
|
Round 1 | | Ryan Sutton | FW (+65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Ryan's Klingons had trouble with my Diplomacy and Leadership heavy dilemma combos, especially after I captured Gowron early on with a Cardassian Procedure! Meanwhile, my Ferengi we're doing great against his dilemma combos thanks to Capt. Picard and Data, whom I downloaded with Seek Out New Life (thanks Dr. Christopher via Assign Mission Specialists!) I cruised throw even Gomtuu after I got enough Diplomacy and encountered it at my Outpost mission with Secure Strategic Base on it. |
The match was going as normal until Scott captured my Gowron which significantly hurt my low number of Klingon Diplomacy personnel. I hit a combo of Scott's that specifically required Diplomacy and I was hard stopped. I never would recover from him taking my Gowron. Scott plowed thru my combos for the FW. Wow ! - The Ferengi are very very strong in Block and when played as flawless as Scott did in this game they become unstoppable. Great Game Scott. |

Round 2 | | Nathan Miracle | FW (+65) |
Nathan was also playing legitimate leader, but unlike Ryan had no Battle Bridge deck. He was relying on rotation damage and got me down to Range 5 on the Kurdon once after I failed a Gomtuu combo that stopped a lot of personnel first. Thankfully, his Klingons were struggling to get enough Diplomacy, too. A nice combo of Distracted, Dal'Rok and Dignateries and Witnesses gave him trouble because he was reluctant to bring in Gowron. But, no matter, I was stopped cold by a Dead End AFTER I had gathered up enough Strength to pass Founder Secret at my first mission! Several turns later I had a choice to make - attempt Amnesty Talks with about 7 dilemmas seeded under it (we both seeded things there) or wait one turn and go do the Host Metaphasic mission with no dilemmas remaining and a Dead End on top. I went for the Amnesty and cleared it all on one turn and solved for the win! Good thing, too, because Nathan would have one on his next turn. |

Round 3 | | Jeremy Norris | FL (-60) |
Jeremy is new to Trek in general but his Ferengi deck was no joke. He played fast and well with Scientific Diplomacy team, Ferengi Military Operations and the Barash/Gambit crew. I had a good crew early, just not enough of them! I ended up getting bogged down at a mission thanks to lacking a good amount of medical a d Jeremy seeding Medical Crisis. Where'd I put that nurse? Oh well, too late, and Jeremy wins. |

Closing Thoughts |
It was a great tournament and I'm glad I didn't crush the new player. This was his first 1E tournament win! Way to go Jeremy! |
