TOSThe NEW Originals v2.0
Introduction
We piled into the van and headed down to Atlanta for a fun weekend of Trek to celebrate Kevin Reitzel's birthday! I'm using my JJ Abrams artwork TOS deck having added some images from Star Trek Into Darkness to Escape, Running a Tight Ship and - most interestingly of all now that Khan is a VP - Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan, Bold Man. This deck is fun to play but there are plenty of holes in the TOS movie crew as I came to find out.

Round 1KlingonMike Camp SrFW (+70)
Mikes playing Klingons and focusing on missions with Warrior's Birthright. I played Uhura as my first card and downloaded and played Willard Decker. Things went well from there and later in the game I was able to destroy one of his two Warrior's Birthright with Matt Decker. I never played Kirk but got to use Driven to discard him and make Harriman +5 Strength (to 11) to pass Chula: Move Along Home for the win! 100-30

Round 2Kevin ReitzelFW (+65)
Kevin is playing Maquis but I get a fun start with Energize (using the image of Spock in mid-beamout as Vulcan is destroyed from Star Trek 2009!) and a few peeps. Kevin plays two Niles on first turn. After this I use Energize to play a cheaper Haddock and Captain on the Bridge so on my next turn I can play Enterprise and download Kirk - a three card combo with all new images! Kevin is suitably impressed by my modified cards. The game slogs on and after several stops at Intercept Renegade I finally solve. Kirk helps me solve but he gets eaten by a Secret Identity and turns into W.Decker. After one stop at Sherman's Planet Kevin hits it with a Biogenic Weapon! This leads to even more turns of me stopping him and he me as I move on to Investigate Derelict. After some Kirk-ing of dilemmas, I finally solve. With time running out I solve The Last Outpost FTW! 100-35

Round 3CardassianRomulanGreg HodginFL (+100)View opponent's Report
Greg is playing Rom Cardie Dissidents, and as usual he's done a fine job of honing his deck for several months if not years. I win the roll to go first but really I'm going to lose because he has The Guardian's Planet and he downloads Hiren so he can get P&P early on. I use an early M.Decker to destroy his P&P but his cunning dilemma play - spurred on by Unexpected Difficulties and Moral Choice - keep me from completing any missions. Greg keeps downloading Dissidents - he got 21 counters worth of personnel into play on one turn! That's better than the Freaking Ferengi! I use Enterprise to download Scotty ad remove his power shift from the game but he uses Picard to keep shuffling my dilemma stacks! I lose after not being able to stop his 12 person attempt at Hunt for DNA Program. This deck is crazy! Can we please get errata for Kira?!?! Greg is at least pleased to see my modded cards, and he especially likes Energize with Spock on it and the new Khan. Although, he points out I should change the Lore on Khan to "Shall we begin?" and I think he's right! Changing lore on the Abrams-verse cards is my next project, LOL! Loss 0-100

Round 4Nathan MiracleML (+5)
Nathan's commodities deck gets to a very slow start but his infinite-returning dilemma pile stops me about 8 times at my final mission. I was able to use Kirk twice on Hard Time at space missions and Running a Tight Ship helped but not at Sherman's Planet. I just can't overcome any other dilemmas. Time gets called on my turn and I throw 14 guys at Sherman's Planet - but Nathan plays Setting the Stage and stops a bunch of my guys. Healing Hand stops McCoy, Honorable Pursuit stops Uhura and as all day - Adopted Authority stops two. Lame. Nathan went first so the game is over and he has 75 to my 70 as well as having a planet and space mission complete. Nathan gets the MW.  75-70

Closing Thoughts
Between Kira downloading dissidents and Nathan's dilemma pile of doom - the last two rounds taught me why Kirk, OT and Co. from the Motion Pictures are fun, but just not top tier in the current meta. They were weak against dilemmas and I think part of the problem is their lower-than-average skill density. Another issue is I play these guys a lot (what can I say, I like Star Trek because I like Captain Kirk!) and Nathan is very familiar with what they have and don't have and even with what I can and cannot gain as far as skills go. I love the crew, and I love the alternate images we've had fun designing, but it is time for me to try a new affiliation for a while, I think. Next time we head to Supergames I'm taking something else...just not sure what yet.
