Introduction |
It's our final 2E event for the 2014-2015 World Championship Trek league. |
|
Round 1 | | David Abelson | FL (-45) |
Dave is one of our newer players and part of a recent crop of new recruits that I'm proud to have introduced to the game recently. For his first tournament he downloaded a Dominion deck that appeared to be trying to destroy his opponent's ships. That plan didn't seem to work out too well for him as he struggled to get a ship in play early. I, on the other hand, was hunting achievements in this tournament so I brought a Triple HQ monstrosity that was cramming as many main characters into one deck as possible! Dave's slowness was not quite as slow as my own as he got the win in our first tournament meeting. I hope it was the first of many. |

Round 2 | | Mike Camp Sr | FW (+10) |
Big Mike's plans to score bonus points while battling were stymied by the shields bonus the U.S.S. Defiant gets while in an engagement. If he hadn't made that mistake, though, he would have won. I was just barely able to take the win here with my crazy Wolf 359/Breach Barrier plan. This deck is truly terrible, LOL! |

Round 3 | | Matthew Baughman | FL (-5) |
Any time I get to play cards with my son is a great time, and in this game I couldn't have been more proud of Matthew. As soon as we sat down, he noticed m 3 HQs and said, "Three Headquarters?!?! You better hope I don't play Josephs!" And what as his opening move? Josephs, naturally. I winced as I had to mill the top 15 cards of my draw deck, but I was proud that he had noticed the strategy all by himself. Nathan helpfully reminded him that he could just keep doing that, play the U.S.S. Enterprise, Beautiful Lady with its upgrade to score five points and then win with a score of 5 to 0 when both of our draw decks were empty. Matthew played Josephs 2 more times, played the Enterprise upgraded and then on his next turn, drew the last five cards in his deck to win the game in 12 minutes!! |

Closing Thoughts |
A great first tournament for Dave, and a real "fireworks show" to end the 2E portion of our league for 2014-2015 with Matthew beating his old man in 12 minutes, LOL! I think I'll always remember the hilarity of that game. |
