Introduction
This was our first Tournament at Bog John Kalmen's new place, which is great because it is filled up with geeky action figures and statuettes and best of all soda is available to anyone who isn't Andrew. Cuz yeah, fuck that guy.

Round 1ByeBY (0)
Had a Bye here with always sucks, but was a great opportunity to dig for some trades for John. He's been looking for a playset of 2E and is getting damned near that. It would be real cool to see a solid player like Big John have access to everycard, so I was happy to trade even cards that I only had one of. The fact that his 1E collection was available for trade might have also helped in this decision.

Round 2KlingonDeathbymonkeysML (-5)
This game actually went quite well. I don't recall the details at the moment, but as I recall Andrew had the much better dilemma pile. I was pulling and playing drones rather efficiently, but his dilemmas were real killers. That slowed me down enough for Andy to get through the missions he needed and pull ahead. Andy did admit that I was more likely to win had the game gone longer. I had assimilated Klingon drones and just needed to get through the planet mission and toss down some One With the Borgs. Andy, on the other hand, was going for the 3 mission win.

Round 3KlingonRomulanJohn McDonaldML (+5)
Best. Game. Ever. Little John was playing Klingon Battle in a very focused way (this is his only deck so he's really been getting to know it), while I was playing Borg assimiliation. T That means full out War. John's deck is slow, which gave me time to build. I went out and solved the necessary Space mission on the second try while John was still hanging out at home. Though I had the Queen's Cube out, I did not have the necessary drone to assimilate people not on a ship so what I needed to do was lure John out. I did so by giving him something tasty to look at. I went out to my planet mission and attempted, leaving an unmanned Queen's Cube in Orbit. That was good enough for John and he came out to Kruge it. I dropped a new ship the next turn but was not enough drones to staff it (poor planning), so John got to spend some time teaching his Klingons to speak Borg. During the mission attempting, Johnhad two great plays. He through a stopper which would target only Locutus before a dilemma that Big L could score off of and then the next turn he killed Locutus and followed that with a dilemma that L could score off of. Damn him, I wouldn't need to assimilate if he'd through a drone some bonus points! Time was running down, so I bagged my goal of collecting drones to complete the space mission and take a commanding lead (70 to naught.) Then I beamed everyone up and attacked the nearest ship to snatch some fresh bodies for the tables. He blew it up the subsequent turn thereby clearing the table of any drones, assimilated or otherwise. For those keeping score: John's Klingon's 2: J's Borg 0. It should also be noted that the points gained from nailing those particular two Borg ships, in 1E, would have score LJ 80 points. Also, there was a gentleman's agreement at the beginning of the match that if John could rock two Borg cubes (he got a cube and a Sphere) that he was automatically the champion of the tournament regardless of VP and victory conditions or the outcome of any other games. Someone should really fix the tournament result entering system to reflect this optional (completely valid) result (j/k for those not from here). Time was finally called and John had one turn left. He had managed to put a good number of dilemmas under a 30 point Space mission (a bit of a rare occassion for the player who doesn't like mission solving.) LJ rounded up a solid microteam and solved. He also had a couple dilemmas under a planet (also 30 points) so he was about to head there and solve when I stopped him. I pointed out that, although that mission might be more solvable than his 45 point planet it would result in no chance of a win (60-70). Although it was a long shot, he needed to throw everything he owned at the 45 pointed to make the score 75-70. After some arm twisting he took my advice AND SOLVED. It should be noted that I played all the dilemmas I drew to stop him, this was not in anyway a handed over game. John took the gamble and won, all the while flying around in a high range Queen's Borg Cube.
