KlingonTalos IV 2-1 : Wesley is a Cheating Bastard
Introduction
This time, I went with a straight solver using many solid Federation Personnel draws complimented with Klingons for the solid ships. As I hadn't seeded the Triple Treaty, my goal was to steal the opponent's mission for the win while utilizing the hardest mission on my side such that they would be hard/impossible to steal. This worked in some cases and not at all in others.

Round 1ToskFW (-30)
Old Tosk was running a lot of the OTSD missions, many that were the same as mine (but not duplicated as they are non-unique). This meant that I already had the skills for them. I fake seeded under his Survey Mission as I knew that Stellar Chartography and Physics would come easily for me. I failed to bluff seed any other missions but left a couple with dilemma sets that could be easily overcome with a good crew. I built quick for the necessary people to complete X, but on his first turn Tosk played a Static Warp Bubble which made me have to choose carefully on what to discard and what to keep. I ran out and completed that mission and then started building the perfect team, 1 card at a time. Then he played a Telepathic Alien Kidnappers. Naming ‘Personnel’ each turn meant that the team that I had in play would have to do as no more people would be coming out on my side. I didn’t draft a Kevin. Tosk went out to his farthest planet mission but was just short on the integrity to get through Alien Parasites. This gave me control of his ship and crew. I flew them next door to my Repair Mission where they quickly cleared all the dilemmas. This had me concerned as they could easily solve, however he did not have enough Engineer to meet the requirements. My next turn I daisy chained my ships and booked out to the mission and solved making the score 75-0 and then cloaked. On my next turn I reverse the daisy chain but didn’t quite make it back to my Outpost. I could still cloak the ship I was on so I did. Tosk did not return to his planet mission, but instead went out to a space that was near my cloaked ship (perhaps intending to find an opportunity to attack as his ship was the beastly Husnock Ship.) But he couldn’t get past a Hippocratic Oath as he had no natural Medics, only scientists using a Medical Tricorder and a Hologram. I was looking at my options for the next mission. Not having any Security, I was deathly afraid of trying one of my own missions and wanted to go after his. The mission s which I could solve easily (and had the weakest dilemmas) were only worth 25 points, so I’d need to either solve both or find 5 bonus points somewhere. I had self seeded a Microvirus but that required some Security. One such mission had Conundrum as its only real dilemma (as I recall), but I was one man short of the integrity. I couldn’t remember everything that I had put at Mineral Survey, though I did recall that they were walls easy for me and requiring Engineer and Computer Skill, which I had in spades. So I daisy chained back again and went for the mission steal. The first dilemma had been cleared by Tosk but would not have made a difference. The second was an Engineer wall, as was the fourth, however the third was Armus: Sticky Situation and that picked off my Klag. I still was able to solve, however Klag was the only Klingon which I had managed to get into play and as I had been flying a K’Vort I could no longer leave the mission. This left the score as 95-0 with me unable to anything else. The game was in Tosk’s court. I tabbed over to Tosk’s side to see how big his deck was (how many turns he had left). 30 cards! Fucking 30 cards left in his deck when mine was toast. This sort of annoys me because it meant that he managed to pull a Static Warp Bubble AND a Telepathic Alien Kidnappers in the first few turns with a 60 card deck. Now had he run a tight little deck this may have worked out better for him, but I think he milked all those turns. It took him until to the bottom 7 cards or so to get any Engineer. He hadn’t drafted any true Engineers and only had Holograms and Officers holding a Kit. But as I said, the Kit didn’t come until very late. The game did come down very close. Tosk lost 10 points saving Richard Galen from a Forbidden Zone and needed to solve every mission that I hadn’t already stolen for 100 points. The last mission had a ton of dilemmas seeded by both Tosk and myself and my Firestorm + his Hunter Gangs pretty much cleaned house.

Round 2KlingonAndreas LimmerFL (-15)
My game vs. Andreas did not go as well for me. He was running 6 space, and I made a poor decision early on. Not remembering that we were playing Open rather than OTF, I thought that Andreas would have to either play to 140 or solve one of my planet missions (he did not have the triple treaty). As such, I self seeded my planet dilemmas under my planet missions with the worst dilemmas under the two planets which I did not intend to solve. As it was, had he indeed needed to solve a 4th space mission or a planet mission, I would have won. I started out ahead solving two space missions (one stolen) before Andreas had done anything. Another mistake I made was in seeding nothing under Andreas’ Quash Conspracy. I had falsely assued that he could not solve it as it requires Tal Shiar and can only be attempted by Romulans while he seeded a Fed/Klingon treaty. My thinking was that he intended to steal missions from me and seeded it as a mission which could not likely be stolen, similar to my Brute Force. Instead, Andreas built two separate teams (one Romulan and one Fed/Klingon) and then used them for separate attempts. He beamed the numerous Non-aligned personnel between these two distinct groups as support. The game was close at the end, but I was slowed down when I attempted my planet mission and was stopped before solving the 3rd space (4th mission total) by a well played Rogue Borg Mercenaries. In retrospect, I should have gone all space and stolen more of Andreas’.

Round 3: vs. Mark This game could not have gone better for me if I had made a deal with Future Guy to rig it. Mark seeded a Triple Treaty, so I didn’t have to worry about defending my missions and only needed to seed under his. He only had 2 planet missions and 4 Space, since one was Fed only I assumed that he was playing mostly Fed, that was a duplicate of my Repair Mission. I stocked his two planet missions with 6-7 dilemmas each (all of my planet only fare). And then only put real dilemmas under two of his Space Missions. Two of his Space missions had very easy skills for my deck and flanked two of my planet missions. So I put no real dilemmas under one of those; Study Plasma Streamer, as it was at the very end of the spaceline and likely far from where he would put his Outpost. The other was I had a team that could solve Study Plasma Streamer and a Ship by turn 4. Once that was out of the way, I went after his Explore Interstellar Matter. I had seeded an Unscientific Method to make it unlike for him to complete on his own, assuming that I had more Science, but had also, for some reason, put the Hippocratic Oath under it. I had to dig for a real Medic (Suna) as I only had a Med Kit in play at that time. This gave Mark an opportunity to come complete it, as I had revealed that it was a weakly seeded mission when I had gone for it, but he never did. This put me up 2 missions and 55 points to naught. Meanwhile Mark built up and tossed a The Traveler, making me a bit concerned that the game would end in a double deck out. On my subsequent turn, I started red shirting one of my planet missions. I knew that I couldn’t rely on his as they were stacked high with all of my planet dilemmas. This worked out well as everyone but Roga made up a Phased Away Team and Roga by himself laughed at a Zaldan. The next turn, I decided to throw everyone at the mission, after having Narik and Taitt unphase the Red Shirts. Outpost Raid picked off two dudes, as Mark had correctly predicted that I would put a Husnock Outpost at Establish Relations. Then a Cardassian Trap kidnapped my Rachel Garrett. The rest of the dilemmas were easy and I cleared the mission, but lacked Diplomacy as Rachel could not be rescued. This left one Diplomat (Riva) and Reflection Therapy in the deck. Suna could download the latter, but was waiting out his sebatical. I began to dig for a Diplomat and consider what mission I would do 4th. Mark flew out to his Test Propulsion Systems and attempted. This had me stoked as I had an X followed by Birth of Junior and Conundrum. If he were to hit the Conundrum, I would easily be able to skate by his ship and steal the cleared mission. Luckily for Mark, he had sent everyone and walked the mission for the 25 points. On his next turn, he went after one of his planet missions. This was also an opportunity for me to steal as it was Geological Survey. Again, he sent everyone which made Alien Parasites a walk for him as well as my Hidden Entrance. Some poor mook was let die after walking into a Punishment Zone, 4 or so dudes lost their lives in a Fire Storm, and Armus - Sticky Situation offed Kromm. This only left one dilemma, an Alien Labyrinth, which Mark’s team could not get by. Somewhat according to plan and somewhat due to luck as I had just happened to off enough people and grab sufficient Engineers. I then swooped in and stole it to put me on 80 points. On my subsequent turn, I picked up Suna, flew everyone back to Establish Relations, and had Suna promote Sito Jaxa to a Diplomat for the solve putting me on 105.

Round 4Meinhard S. RohrFL (-75)
My final round was against the eventual tournament winner, Mogh Son of Worf (not to be confused with his son Worf, Son of Mogh). Like Andreas, he was rolling with the solid strategy of all 6 of the same mission type. However, Mogh was running all planet. This was a benefit for me, as only three of my dilemma could not seed at planets and because, unlike Andreas, Mogh did have the Triple Treaty. Meaning that I could steal his missions and he could not steal mine. Which is exactly what I did. Mogh had two planets which could only be attempted by Romulans, as I was lacking in ROmulans, I left those to him and stole another. However, this is where Mogh made a potentially game deciding play. He played a second ship, flew over and blew me up. Unfortunately for me, I had played the one ship with the weakest shields and 7 being just low enough for his combined 15 weapons to nuke in one go. To strand me where I could be shot, he had played a Loss of Orbital STability, but I stil hadn't seen it coming having forgotten that the Triple Treaty allows Feds to attack. I spent the rest of the game rebuilding but another LOOS prevented me from making a last turn run at completing some missions. Meanwhile, Mogh trucked through my dilemmas and solved 3 planets for the necessary 100 points. A well deserved win, IMO.
