Cardassian Only Theme Deck |
Introduction |
One of my favorite tournament ever! I really like the theme format, having to design a deck to certain limitations and build strategy around how you think others will deal with the same limitations.
--- How my Deck works:
The idea is to Ops Download a unique ship, Q's Tent for a Central Command Report, Ready Room Door for the ship's commander, and Support Personnel Download every turn you can. That left Handshake for card draws. Start attempting right away (Tented Thermal Deflectors lets you redshirt planets) to see what you need. Then next turn choose the exact 3 personnel you need.
--
With no mission specialists a Cardassian only deck has trouble achieving a 2 mission win. I'm counting on stealing a mission with Plans of the Obsidian Order Espionage Download. I'm prepared with a dilemma combo I know I can get by. Because I choose the skills that come in to play any stealable missions I can usually get the first turn. Because of the affiliation theme of the tournament I was counting on mission stealing to be unexpected. |

Round 1 | | Rogue Shindler | FL (-55)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Rogue Schindler's Borg Deck. I LOST 45 to 110.
Rogue had a great Borg deck which probably would have beaten my deck on a good day. I was still getting the hang of this deck, which depends entirely on making the right download decisions each turn. I don't believe he gave me a mission to steal either. I was barely able to beat one mission before he won. |
A learning experience, to be sure. I read and re-read the notes I took from Dan's tutorial before the game, and tried to remember everything. As it was, I forgot to get Seven of Nine out, and spent most of the game wondering why Dan said I'd never need to draw cards when I ran out of things to use my card play on in the second turn. Doh! Luckily, Tim's facilities were somewhat separated by a few missions, and I significantly slowed down his shuttling around by grabbing Obelisk to double up staffing for his Naprem and freighters. About half way through, I figured out how to properly do Three of Nine's trick and sped up a bit, but my dilemmas (especially a well-timed Cytherians) delayed him enough for me to lumber through HP010. After that was done, the hive moved to Q'onos and Assimilated HW in one turn. |

Round 2 | | Matthew King | FW (+100) |
Matt King's Bajoran Deck. I WON 100 to 0.
We had 4 of the same missions!! Classic matchup. This was a huge advantage for me as I was planning to steal anyways and I knew exactly what I needed for my dilemmas (Exobiology and Diplomacy). His own dilemmas worked against him. We had some good ship battle, but I was able to take the missions. |

Round 3 | | Danny Nuttall | FW (+100) |
Danny Nuttall's Hirogen Deck. I WON 102 to 0.
Without DQSS, Ancestral Vision, C's Array, Vidiians, Non-Aligned DQs the Hirogen are left really weak on the personnel and skills. Dan had a strong Hirogen Armada going quickly, but I had enough ships and the homeworld to hold my own. He was using Barzan Wormhole to get to the AQ so I was able to quickly steal 45 points from his Wormhole Negations. |

Round 4 | | Ben Hosp | FW (+70) |
Ben Hosp's Romulan Deck. I WON 105 to 30.
Ben had a fast deck but he included the Earth mission -- an easy steal for the Obsidian Order. I had a pretty bad draw this game, leaving me without many of my full working turns and few ships. Looking weak, Ben spent time menacing me with ship battle and even commandeered my Nor for a turn with Ambassador Tomalak. I had a dilemma combo that killed a lot of his crew (The Clown: Bitter Medicine "Treachery" + Firestorm). |
