New friendly arrivals from the Gamma Quadrant |
Introduction |
Late night building the deck the night before as usual, this time with quite a limited set of cards but still with a few different direction the deck could take. I ended up trying to make an improved version of last tournament's deck, where I primarily had problems drawing cards, but also had some issues getting the right skills, so main focus to improve was more solid drawing and deeper analysis and setup of the skill set. |

Round 1 | | Torbjörn Lindquist | MW (+45)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Interesting table with Alpha, Gamma and Mirror Quadrant and a lot of seed cards on both sides. Started off slow with a lot of juggling cards, myself managed to completely screw up and not follow the intended plan to Alpha, so did not get many cards out or drawing cards. After one hour it was 15-5, both from dilemmas, to me, but in the last 15 minutes I managed to clear one mission and win in the end. Dilemmas worked solidly and manages to keep Linkan from solving anything despite many attempts at many locations. |
Lost against the winner of the tournament. Did lots of mistakes and had some bad luck. |

Round 2 | | Jorn Engstrom | FW (+35) |
Next up Borg and Jörn was off to a flying start scouting and clearing quite quickly, even my kind of Borg optimised dilemmas did not manage to slow him down much. This time around my setup worked better when doing things in correct order and the deck kept going fairly smoothly, especially drawing, but I was a bit hampered by drawing into very few personnel cards. But after a while it improved and I managed to catch up on Jörns early start via 0-40 to 50-40 but then 40-65 after one more done for him. I cleared out and needed one more round for setting 50 points via Victory is life, and his range 22 cube managed to race through the spaceline to start assimilating Earth. I very lucky, for me, drone dilemma killing spree left him unable to clear the scouting due to choosing the wrong guy to protect - which enabled me to finish also mission number 2 for a full win. Coin-flip win in a fun match. |

Round 3 | | Cristoffer Wiker | MW (+18)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Winner takes it all. Another triple space line with Delta and Hirogen/Equinox from Smiley's side. Tons of people pouring out on his side and drawing a lot of cards. I was drawing well too, but a well timed disruptor overload hampered my start a bit, but despite not designing too much redundancies into the deck I could plow through dilemmas quite well. Some poor planning and foresight meant a LOT of the higher the fewer "points" on my side, so three missions would have been necessary from my side. Again I have to thank my dilemmas this time since Smiley had tons of people which he as always managed well in multiple waves of attempts, but despite attempting 4 different missions he only manages to clear and score one of the missions within the time, while I managed two, almost three. Some minor battle occurred by a surprise visit by Hirogens around the wormhole at some point, but no real affect, except maybe delaying his mission solving in the end. I was also thinking about reversing the hunt to compensate for the negative bonus points, but ended up judging it would take too much resources and effort to re-focus my efforts to do both, especially since the battle side of the deck had been toned down this time. Close game anyway, could have gone either way with just minor different choices from either side. |
Deja Vu! I've done this game before. Both me and Scox is sitting with similar decks on each side of the table for the win of the tournament. He won the last time around due to me not being able to draw any cards and as I this time was ready and had a deck that could draw cards. Unfortunately I managed to more or less clear out 3 missions but due to a unfortunate Denevian Parasites I lost all my Medicals I had left. Only managed to solve one mission, one was locked out by a dead end and the other two I didn't have the skills left to do. Then time was called and Scox took the win once again from me with his Dominion deck agains my Hirogen. I was so stressed out after this I couldn't even collect my cards for a while. |

Closing Thoughts |
Sleeping a bit more next time is probably the best improvement to the game I can make. ;-) Three fun games as always in this group, wish I could have played also against carwash since yesterday's match was a lot of fun, but hopefully next time! |
