Introduction
The plan: Seed phase AMS for Atul + Batrell. My turn 1 Spacedoor for Battle Cruiser, DL Kered, ASP for Ba'el, DH for Brig Kerla and DL Gorkon. Beam everyone down for Duck Blind. Turn 2 Tent for MaH nlv, DL K'mpek, Tumek, Chanc. Gowron, Regent Worf, Antaak, Worf (from the Sons Of Mogh), in turn DL Kle'eg, Grilka, Targ, HQs Secure Homeworld and War Room. After everything's done (even, possibly, a segment of a mission attempt), can DL MaH again with Antaak, and get: Kang, Kor, Phlox, Governor Worf, Colonel Worf, Kitrik, B'Elanna, Kurak, N'Garen and Klaa. This deck (or at least that part of it) was based on Jeremy Commandeur's Worlds-winning deck. I didn't really find the mass-downloading part of it all that fun even from the first game. The second game, the un-funness of my deck coupled with playing against a deck specifically designed to lock it out made it even less fun. I think I might go back to more my style of deck in the future, even if the fun stuff takes too many turns to get going.

Round 1FerengiRomulanChristopher CoyleFL (-91)View opponent's Report
vs startrekccggeek: Chris was playing Ferengi, and with all my MaH'nlv downloading, there was a certain amount of watching what the other was doing. Although I've tested through this deck more than I've tested any other, I was still not-quite-with-it, so didn't quite do everything according to the plan. Chris went first, so I DLd Q The Ref. My Turn 2. I DLd K'mpec thru Sons Of Mogh as outlined above, but neglected to DL the others. I went and tried Seek Life Form, and got stopped by The Arsenal: Separated, and got stopped with both piles having exactly Cunning 27. Next turn I did my downloading, and should have attempted Seek Life-Form with these guys, but went and did my second MaH first. I split my teams up expecting V'Ger, but hit a Barclay's upgraded by Shades Of Gray: Brutality. Kor, Col Worf, Kitrick, B'Elanna and N'Garen de-evolved. the next turn, the remaining crew didn't have quite enough Cunning to pass the Ferengi Infestation. At this point, Chris started a mission attempt, with a 62nd Rule. The Clown fed his Bitter Medicine to the Navigation personnel, making sure that the Subspace Shock Wave would hit. The visitor throught the Temporal Micro-wormhole, Telek R'Mor, tragically lost his life, as did Mordoc. After a turn or two of recuperating, the Ferengi mustered up enough skills and duck tape to patch up the Subspace Fracture to score 5. He was sadly lacking in the skills he needed to complete the mission, though. My crew had limped back to the outpost, so I got the Anthro together for Duck Blind, and the 2 Blood Oath folk together to download Jadzia. I moved back to Seek Life Form my next turn, wiped out the Ferengi Infestation, and solved for 40 points. Chris then moved to complete Kressari Rendezvous, ditched 3 weapons and scored 62nd Rule points to take himself to 55 points. I lost 10 points from the 62nd Rule. I used an Isomagnetic Disintegrator to get back folk I'd lost. Chris ditched a Space-Time Portal for a Brunt's Shuttle drop, but ran into problems with not being able to report the AU-icon folk, not having any more STPs on the table. He then moved to attempt Ferenginar. The Distracted By Thoughts Of Home/Firestorm combination was negated somewhat by Leeta's download of Kukalaka, and naturally couldn't get through the Pale Moonlight. I separated out my Blood Oath gang and sent the others to attempt A Good Day To Live, then lost 10 points to a Lack Of Preparation. Chris ditched the teddy bear to pass In The Pale Moonlight, and secured his homeworld to get to 85 points. He then ditched 3 Latinum and pushed up to 91 points. I then threw everyone at A Good Day To Live, passed the Lack of Prep, and lost 11 points to The Higher The Fewer. And then couldn't get through Dead End. 3 more ditched Latinum took Chris to 97. I headed out towards Investigate Alien Probe, but couldn't reach it in time. 3 more Latinum bought Chris the game. He got 103 points, I ended up with 9, having completed a 40-point mission. I see the funny in this. Good game, Chris, hope you do well in the rest of the tourney!

Round 2DominionMatthew ZinnoFL (-100)View opponent's Report
vs CommDecker: I misremembered the time, so we started late, and had to start the game one night, and finish another. Part 1: A lot of the time was spent setting up, naturally. Commdecker was playing Dominion, and I was looking forward to see what a Dominion deck would look like. He wasn't running the homeworld, and was running one Gamma mission and one Delta mission. I went first, and completely forgot to use my Spacedoor to get the Battle Cruiser and thus Kered. I played an equipment for free, Phlox as card play, did my ASP and DH downloads. Kerla's download of Chancellor Gorkon put the Obelisk from my hand onto Containment Field. This is going to make the rest of my part of the game interesting. I did realise my mistake of the Spacedoor partway through the turn, but I didn't ask to take it back. Decker on the other hand realised a mistake he made in his turn, asked if he could correct it, I let him, then he realised it wasn't a mistake so I let him redo it. It didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference at this stage, the thing he ended up not doing was downloading someone with I'm A Doctor Not A Bricklayer, and what he did end up doing was moving his Karemman Vessel to the Alpha Quadrant. One thing concerning me at this stage is the lack of Tent or MaH'nlv in my hand, this might slow me down more than Containment Field will. There's also a Homefront on the homeworld, I don't think this will make a big difference, but we shall see. That's where we ended the first evening playing. Part 2: I flipped the Spacedoor for Battle Cruiser and Kered, therefore I kept the Obelisk on Containment Field. Matt's next turn, he returned the Field under his deck with Q the Ref, so the Obelisk went under my deck. This led to a false sense of security, because when I put other stuff on CF later, he discarded it instead. Decker in one turn got the Dominion Battleship VP, Wodek'idan, ref-cycled CF then ditched Q the Ref to re-grab CF. Doctor Not A Bricklayer retrieved Turan'ekan, RRD got Hanok. I didn't feel comfortable about MaH'nlving as planned that turn, as the next part of that play would be more use of Special Download icons, so I played Tumek, put Isomagnetic Disintegrator on CF to download Grilka. Already feeling slightly threatened by the movements of Big Badass Ships, I headed along a mission with everyone to try and Investigate Alien Probe. Brigadier Kerla was Displaced to the outpost mission, and Hippocratic Oath moved Phlox. I then failed The Cloud, so the Battle Cruiser got damaged, and the ship and crew were stopped until the end of my next turn. Enter Jem'hadar Warship, Temo'zuma, and 34th Rule, the latter after he'd thoughtfully discarded his Containment Field. Ultimatum downloaded an RSD and a couple of Equipment (Plasmadyne Relay being one), and RRD retrieved a Defiant Dedication Plaque. Decker brought his Jem'hadar army to bear on the stranded(ish) Kerla and Phlox. One was stunned and the other killed, given the Disruptor Rifle and the Lower Decks. More folk in his army guaranteed Kerla a swift and glorious death. I Tent for T'ong, and played that with Chancellor Gowron and Kor'choth on the end of the spaceline nearest to my mission crew and outpost. I moved it toward the mission crew, but suffered from small Range. Decker played 3 equipment for free to his RSD, DL'd Amet'alox, then headed for the Battle Cruiser. He flipped Invasive Beam-In, put a Jemmie on my ship and scored 5 points with The Walls Have Ears. He then beamed the Jemmie back and blew up my ship and mission crew. He drew 2 with 34th Rule, played the RRD and got Captain's Log. I Tented for Gr'oth and downloaded Captain Koloth, Decker grabbed his Containment Field again and I put my other Chancellor Gowron on it. I moved the T'ong to Investigate Alien Probe, and I retrieved the crew with the Gr'oth and docked back at the outpost. Matt Tented for Captured and played a Science Kit. He beamed Lam to one of my ships and scored 5 more points with The Walls Have Ears. Against a stack of Jemmies, Captain Koloth was Captured. This left Gowron and One-Armed Dude to fight the hordes of Jemmies, and naturally they lost their lives in glorious combat. Containment Field and Chancellor Gowron were discarded. T'ong got blown up, Decker scored 6 Ultimatum points (Total score: 16 bonus points). I didn't feel comfortable playing anyone at the time being, though I could have played at the HQ and hoped for a massive Defend Homeworld download. I did play a Regenerate, in the hope of retrieving helpful personnel. Over the rest of the game, I did manage to play sons Of Mogh, Kered, Governor Worf, K'mpec who downloaded Kle'eg for the last Security needed to use the HQ's gametext, Chancellors Gowron and Gorkon, and Koloth. At some point during the proceedings I did QtR for Obelisk and Masaka Transformations, during Matt's turn. Traveler Transcendence and Surprise Party also found their way into play. I didn't quite feel that this gang was up to dilemma busting, so I didn't risk downloading HQ Secure Homeworld with K'mpec. After getting bored of shooting my outpost for draws, Decker started heading out and attempting his missions. Despite Lower Decks cancelling it out, The clown Bitter Medicine/Subspace Shock Wave combo hit, ditching Dr Farek and Varat'idan. A second ship attempted that turn, but a lack of Leadership killed his crew. His next turn, enough Navigation were unstopped to complete Construct Depot. +30 for the mission, then +5 more for Victory Is Life. He moved along for a second mission attempt, Find Hidden Base. Horta hit, Distracted By Thoughts Of Home slightly offset the Lower Decks advantage, and God struck down the Karemman Vessel with a lightning bolt of holy retribution. Ah, if only other ships had been at that location :) His next turn, he moved another ship along to the Badlands to finish hunting for the Maquis. He had to use some extra of his mighty Range when he realised he needed to drop off Hogan at the adjacent location. 40 points for the mission, then, brought him up to 91 points. I discarded God and Distracted... as mission attempts there were no longer relevant. I kept Horta just in case of a Love Interest or something (I've been fiddling with other decks, by this point I don't remember what my other combos are). Matt headed over towards the other end of the spaceline towards his other Construct Depot, but on his way he finds 2 more The Walls Have Ears that he could use during his brief stops at my outpost and my homeworld, to push himself over the top to 101 points. It's kind of a good job I never got to MaH nlv, as a Computer Crash was sitting on the table, unflipped, the whole game. I'm really not sure what I could have done to improve the outcome of this game. In one sense I can see the misstep I made with the Battle Cruiser in Turn 1 and not starting playing cards at the homeworld sooner, but in another sense I think the instincts of not playing any more at the outpost, not using MaH'nlv when I was finally in more of a position to, and not having good skills in play to attempt at the homeworld seem to have been the right ones. It really didn't help that his deck was specifically designed to beat this kind of deck. Final score: commdecker 101, me 0. Good game, and it was pretty informative watching the Dominion strategy.

Round 3StarfleetAdam WarpinskiFW (+25)
vs Warpaw: Warpaw was playing Starfleet. He went first, so I downloaded the Obelisk. The downloading in Turn 1 worked, then the first maH nlv+following downloads worked (I neglected to get Secure Homeworld, but it didn't affect the game any). Another Homefront was an irritant, and made the game post-my Turn 3 pretty slow. My first turn, in addition to the outline above, I played a Ref card and Science PADD for free. My Turn 2 I downloaded, turning the 6 people into 10 people (that part I don't really like, it's a bit boring). I moved across one from my Outpost to Seek Life Form. K'mpec was struck by a DNA Metamorphosis, but he wasn't to be put into stasis until the end of the next turn. The Ankari Spirits were subdued by overwhelming Klingon awesomeness, and that was it for the dilemmas under that mission. Unfortunately, I had no Astrophysics. My next turn I played Klaa at the outpost, and moved the Battle Cruiser one mission further to Warped Space. 5 cards had Leadership or OFFICER, distracting them with a Personal Duty, but Regent Worf got to continue. The others were stopped by Maglock, but Antaak replaced the stopped personnel with his maH nlv download (the Sons of Mogh were among the stopped, so 4 stopped cards resulted in 5 unstopped downloaded people). I grabbed Colonel Worf, Kang, Martok, Chang and Koloth, so I passed the Maglock. Not fond of dilemma-escape, seems like cheating. Tumek was struck by DNA Metamorphosis. K'mpec had been placed out-of-play with maH nlv, so DNA Meta didn't put him into stasis. More Ankari Spirits were ghostbusted, and with the Science PADD I had the skills to solve Warped Space. I put a Tent from hand onto Warpaw's Containment Field to get Blood Oath, and grabbed Jadzia Dax. At this point Warpaw felt comfortable attempting. He hit Edo Probe, and, suspecting DNA Clues underneath, continued. Dead End sent him into negative points. I retrieved the Tent from Containment Field, and played Chancellor Gorkon at the outpost. I now had the skills to solve Seek Life Form, so I moved back one to solve it, putting the current scores at 85 (me) vs -10 (him). In place of a draw I grabbed Kor. Warpaw moved across to another mission. Hull Breach sent Jeremy Lucas and Garrid to the afterlife, and Ankari Spirits scared the life out of Emory Erickson and Dallas. He then returned the afflicted Enterprise to hand with Space-Time Portal. I played Krase at the outpost, moved the Battle Cruiser back to the outpost and attempted I only sent Kor of the Blood Oath crew attempting, in case of Lack Of Prep. the Female's Love Interest portion of Combo Scow didn't hit, my only female in play (Jadzia) wasn't in the Away Team. I didn't have the Range that turn to move the Scow portion to the Clone Colony (2 Span, closer than Seek Life Form). Neither did I have the 2 Engineer... I played Chancellor Gowron, Access Denied got placed on my Good Day To Live. I played Surprise Party, flipped my Obelisk to Masaka myself. Warpaw had played Traveler Transcendence, I flipped an earlier free-played Mirror Image, and beamed folk down at Duck Blind to draw 4. Warpaw moved George and Gracie to Earth to score 15 points, bringing him to +5. My next turn, I played Kurak, and Engineering Tricorder for free. (I accidentally put Kurak into my hand instead of Crew 1, but this didn't make a difference as we shall see shortly.) With the Engineering Tricorder I was no able to move the Scow, but I got hit by Loss Of Orbital Stability. I drew 4 more. Next turn I (foolishly) Tented for Tong (the end of the spaceline was a bit far away), and put Gov Worf, Kitrick and Kor'choth on it. I forgot to try and move the Scow that turn. I couldn't draw cos I Tented. Next turn I played Phlox and tried moving the Scow again, but got hit by another Loss Of Orbital Stability. At the end-of-turn drawing I downloaded the Gr'oth and Lukara. Warpaw was ready to go attempting again, and he narrowly scraped by The Cloud, and solved the mission bringing him to 40 points. He moved across to another mission. Phlox and T'Pol fell victim to the Subspace Shock Wave (the Cunning of Navigation folks having fallen victim to some Bitter Medicine), but he passed Subspace Fracture, giving him 5 more points. I moved the Scow, and came back to A Good Day To Live. Jadzia Dax and the now-remembered Kurak got discarded by a Talosian Cage. These were my only females (supposed to be) in play, so Strange Bedfellows got automatically passed. Matriarchal Society was a little bit trickier, however. Travis Mayweather was killed by a Horta, and a crew that was Distracted By Thoughts Of Home found God, who destroyed the Columbia in orbit (there were three ships in orbit, I blew up the one that had any crew on. Bye-bye, Erika!) I played N'Garen, and threw the turn back. On his turn, I put a Tent on Containment Field to Special Download D'k Tahg. Warpaw solved his mission, bringing him to 75 points. He moved back to his Dead Ended mission, and didn't have the Range to ditch the Combo Scow I seeded (but Hoshi Sato did have a nice holiday at Qo'nos). I was sure I had more females in my discard pile than my draw deck, so I played Isomagnetic Disintegrator on myself. (I was right, 2 females in the discard, I'd forgotten about B'Elanna in the draw deck, never mind the quadrant issue there.) When I was about to draw, I suddenly remembered that I could replace one of those draws with a Blood Oath download, so I retrieved Jadzia. This got me past Matriarchal Society, and I had all 4 Blood Oath personnel attempting. That was the last dilemma, so I scored 50 points from that mission, bringing me to 135 points. I won a Full Win, 135-75. That game I was happy with that deck. I wasn't fond of the maH nlv cheese or all the downloading near the beginning, but after that when we were struggling for the right cards, it was much more interesting. Thanks, Mr Paw, for that fun game.

Round 4Non-AlignedFederationVidiianCorbin JohnsonFL (-55)View opponent's Report
vs Corbinq27 Corbin was playing a DQ Non-aligned deck, Equinox and Holograms featured heavily. I went first, and the Turn 1 part of the plan worked fine. I ended the turn with 9 cards in hand, so he Handshook me and I let him draw. He played Holo-Projectors on one of his missions, RRD got him Ransom and Holodeck Door grabbed him Leonardo, who in no time at all produced a Mona Lisa. DH grabbed him the Triumvirate, and TMW made Telek R'Mor appear out of thin air. ASP grabbed Mariah, and QIR put Lewis Zimmerman in his hand. The Equinox then moved to the end of the Dairy Queen spaceline, and One materialised on the Equinox. The Clown hit, and the Subspace Shock Wave randomly killed Marika and Lansor. My turn, so I Tented for maH nlv, and upgraded my 6 folk to 10 folk. I moved to Warped Space and attempted. The Whale Probe put everyone in stasis. Corbin pitched a TMW to play Zimmerman, and ended the turn. I played Kang and DLd Blood Oath, then resumed Warped Space. A Fast Ship would indeed have been nice, instead Antaak bit the dust. The remaining folk were Diplomatic enough to survive the Gomtuu Shock Wave, but lacked the skills to complete the mission. I moved back to the outpost. Corbin Handshook again, and drew two and pitched one with The Power. Duchamps was played for free, and a Holodeck Door procured the President of Earth. I played N'Garen to the outpost, which gave me enough in the way of skills to go back and complete Warped Space (45 to me). Corbin again played Handshake, and drew 2 with Mutation function 2. Jetrel was card play, Equinox Doctor was free. He attempted a mission. Horta killed Zimmerman, then while they were Distracted By Thoughts Of Home, God exploded the Equinox. Nanoprobe Resuscitation brought it back to hand. There was a question as to whether the destruction of the Mona Lisa by God lost me 25 points. We chose to continue until it mattered, but got an interim ruling from nuttersuclan who ruled that I did lose points. We checked with the Tournament Director for this even when he came online after the game, and he ruled that God was like the Borg Ship example in the Glossary, so I didn't lose points. I played Kor, and with the ship back at the outpost, beamed everyone down to get the two draws with Duck Blind. I converted these with Blood Oath to Koloth and Jadzia. Corbin played his Equinox, and grabbed Lonzak with the Holodeck Door. With a ship there, he could re-attempt his outpost mission, and got 30 points. He then tried his other Projectored mission. Distracted By Thoughts of Firestorm killed Henley and Ransom, and deactivated the Equinox Doctor, Duchamps and Lonzak. In The Pale Moonlight couldn't be passed this turn. I played Kitrik and downloaded a Bat'leth, and tried A Good Day To Live with everyone in play except Kang, Koloth and Jadzia. I didn't have an Engineer there to pass Make Us Go. Corbin was worried about another God, but after passing the Pale Moonlight, the only seed card left there was his self-seeded Time Travel Pod. He solved the mission, bringing him to 70. I played Gorkon at the Great Hall, the Engineering Tricorder at the Outpost, and the Kla'Diyus at the Hall. I sent everyone down to attempt A Good Day, even the Blood Oath crew, and that was a mistake. Jadzia got held by Make Us Go, Duonetic Field Generator meant no-one could beam, and Combo Plague Ship then moved Tumek to Qo'nos, and killed everyone else. Corbin played The Traveler Transcendence. I played Chancellor Gowron for free to the Hall, then Tented for the Groth and DLd Captain Koloth. I did all this at The Great Hall, but with Warped Space between the Hall and the Outpost, there was no way of getting Jadzia back. Corbin squeaked past Subspace Fracture, but didn't have the skills to solve the mission. I played Kor'choth to the Hall, and Engage Cloak as I didn't have anything else worth playing, and attempted the Homeworld. I couldn't get past the Arsenal: Separated. Corbin attempted another mission. He got past Hazardous Duty. With Kelvan, I chose the only two non-Hologram Security, Ayala and Maxwell Burke. I should have gone with a non-Security instead of Max, as he had plenty to get past Kazon Bomb. As it was, Max got randomly selected with part 2 of Kelvan, and Kazon Bomb was breezed through, so points were not lost. Solving the mission brought him to exactly 100 points, ending the game. Final score: 100-45 to Corbin.
