FederationTalos IV/7: Organian Peace Trauma
Introduction

Round 1Chris MorseMW (+55)
Round 1: vs Trekker777 Chris was playing TOS Klingons. We duplicated Agricultural Assessment and Study Plasma Streamer. I'd set down 3 missions on one side, when his third mission on the other was AA, so I broke up the spaceline a little after that. Good thing I did, as Historical Research ended up on "his" side. We both spent a while building up forces. I was getting draws from his Klingons at K7, he got a few draws with Temporal Investigations from me making some card plays to my Outpost. He got 35th Rule out early on Wyatt Earp, my Kras and 35th Rules showed up really late. He also got draws with Guardian Of Forever. After I got both Fontaine and Scotty out, and their related hand weapons, I was comfortable with attempting. I sent some folk over to check out Historical Research. Like I said, this mission was not mine, but I prepared for it. McCoy, Spock, Grant, Kirk and Fontaine attempted, bringing 3 hand weapons and a Tricorder. Chula: The Drink picked both Spock and Grant, just one of them would have sufficed to pass it. Denevan Neural Parasites killed no-one. Horta picked Spock, I let Grant die. Palukoo stopped Spock. Now with all the dilemmas cleared, I pitched a Q The Ref to get Temporal Vortex, and Defend Homeworld to get Worf. A bunch of Klingons departed K-7 on the Gr'oth (with Captain Koloth on). Picking up Worf from the outpost on Agricultural Assessment, 2 Kereds, Captain Koloth, Worf and Kras swooped in for the solve. 40 points. Chris now felt comfortable enough to attempt, he moved along to the end of the spaceline to Bat'leth tournament. Crisis stopped him. Soon after, he reattempted, and lost Tumek, Korax and Wyatt to the Flapjacks. A Fast Ship killed Ruk (he was the one selected), and Hunter Gangs killed Kered, the final attempter. Vekma and a Bat'leth beamed down for the solves, 30 with the Mission Specialist. By this time, I'd picked up Spock, of course, and I got Worf and the Classic Tricorder to K7. Barry Waddle headed over to K7 and downloaded Tribble Bomb, then ran away. I had 4 people at K7, 2 walked Tribbles to the empty Battle Cruiser, the other 2 used the Tricorder and scanned the 2 remaining Tribbles and the Tribble Bomb. The odds were ever in our favour, and the Bomb was the second one revealed. It took me a while to get the folk together and inch them along the spaceline (past Paxan Wormhole, careful to not stop there). I start attempting Reignite Dead Star. I need a Space mission, and I don't want to risk the shared mission. I have pretty much all my personnel out. Most of them are here. Lack Of Preparation. This should be OK, I have a ton of people and.... no Stellar Cartography. At all. In the whole deck. Oops. Back to 30 points, equal with Trekker777. Guess I haven't learned my lesson from that other deck where I couldn't do one of my 40-point Gamma missions... Oh well. Next turn, after some Tribble shuffling, I move across to Study Plasma Streamer. What can I say? I need to do it. first up: Primitive Culture. Bingo! Six Klingons. Hazardous Duty, all right, 3 of those Klingons are Officers. Ferengi Infestation. I wish there were a quick way of counting stats in Lackey. I have plenty of Cunning, though, so I'm OK. Quantum Fissure. I have those skills, and the opponent's ship here has only 1 staffing icon. Kelvan Show Of Force, Grant steps in for Bashir. Lose 5 points. 25 points. Skills for the mission on Daval and Uhura. +30 to 55 points. Chris attempts ne of his Space missions. I think it's Paxan Wormhole because we make sure Korby's there. Lack Of Prep misses, Stellar Flare misses, Maglock hits. I almost move to Feldomite Rush, but experience a lack of Greed. Crap, 2 missions I can't do? That's inconvenient. Instead, I move back to Cargo Rendezvous. I get through Hazardous Duty but Ferengi Infestation stops me. Chris moves next door to his Outpost mission. Lack Of Prep misses, as does Gravimetric Distortion, but Maglock again hits. I throw more people at the mission. Horta's revealed: I should have used McCoy's download to just nullify it, but I let Kered die. I've forgotten about Hazardous Duty already. Down to 50. Flapjacks select 9 of the 17 people. I can save 4. I don't save Spock. I have another. Unfortunately, that was the only person I had a duplicate of that got selected. Chapel, Grant, Ruk, and Kered all bite the dust. I solve, taking me to 85 points. Mr 777 attempts another mission, and can't get past Hazardous Duty. He gets Barry Waddle to K7, but can't play the Bomb the same turn. Worf's there. I capture Barry Waddle. It's kinda funny, Wyatt Earp was there earlier, poised to capture me Arne Darvin. I was worried til I realised Captured wasn't in the format. I go to Investigate Coup. Hazardous Duty/Ferengi Infestation/Kelvan Show Of Force kills Dax (tiredness is showing, I should have lost 5 points there). I actually have Officer, Leadershipx2, Security and Navigation, but I don't notice the big red OR in front of Benjamin Sisko, I think that because I only have Lt Sisko and none of the other named folk I can't solve. I should have won with 110 points at this point. Next turn, I go back to Agricultural Assessment, where I know there's a Hazardous Duty. I send all, and only, my Officers down. After Hazardous Duty, Artillery Attack kills Kras, then I can't get past Ferengi Infestation. I wouldn't have been able to pass Executive Authorization, either. But now it's definitely been three hours,so we call time.

Round 2FederationRem BoonFW (+95)
Round 1: vs Boon Of Bolian This was a mirror match: both of us were running an Organian Peace Treaty deck. Fortunately, there were only 2 duplicated missions: Agricultural Assessment, of course, and Reignite Dead Star (not so bad since I can't do it). Then I realised that apart from Agricultural Assessment, all of Boon's missions were Space. Ooooooh. I took the dual dilemmas out of the planet combos and put them with the dual combos. I got Arne Darvin out early, and Rem got 35th Rule on Kras out early. It took a while for Kras to show up, for me, and for Arnie to show up for him. I think Rem was ready to attempt first, he edged one of his ships along the spaceline towards Warped Space. There were 2 missions between Agricultural Assessment and Warped Space, which came to 5 Span. In dilemma combination placement, I planned to steal Warped Space. Using his Temporal Vortex, I got a ship and some folk to my Outpost (at AA), bunged everyone into the Enterprise (with Mr Scott on), and travelled the 6 Span to Warped Space, and stole it like a bastard. Had the skills for the mission, so passed Lack Of Prep, had the extra Navigation for Stellar Flare, had 3 Officers and 4 hand weapons to get past Maglock, and had Odo and Mr Spock for Dangerous Liaisons. 45 points to me. With nothing else to really do on that end of the spaceline, Rem limped back to his Outpost (Explore Dyson Sphere, this side of Agricultural Assessment). I moved across one to Investigate Coup, and sent down an Away Team (a ton of equipment, Kirk, Spock and McCoy, I think Odo and Worf). Horta was first, so McCoy downloaded I'm A Doctor, Not A Bricklayer. A Fast Ship found me without a bodyguard (Ruk was sitting on the ship, not quite sure what I was thinking), so Captain Kirk died (took me a while to draw the other one), so I couldn't pass Crisis this turn. Rem starts attempting Explore Dyson Sphere with just his Feds, as he has Mission Specialists and Support Personnel incompatible with his TOS Klingons. First up was Chula: The Drink, passed by Mendon. Hazardous Duty was passed by Kirk and Mirror Kirk, but Ferengi Infestation found him short on Security. My turn again, I send down Mr Scott to replace Captain Kirk, and add Leadership to Dr McCoy with the Classic Communicator. Crisis was passed, and the last dilemma was... not Denevan Neural Parasites. It was Primitive Culture. At this point, I leave this mission for a little, more Klingons were coming into hand so I could play them soon. Rem got some more Security: Security Chief Sulu, Kira, some TOS Leaders and Classic Type II Phaser saw to that, and plenty of Cunning. Kelvan Show Of Force selected the 2 non-Officer present, Dr Selar and Mendon. The Mission Specialist died. This took Rem to -5 with Hazardous Duty. At this point he was unable to solve. He moves across the spaceline towards Seek Life-form over at the other end, and stopped on Samaritan Snare. He had most of the same folks, I think he'd swapped the non-TOS folk for Klingons at this point, so busted through Hazardous Duty and Ferengi Infestation. Kelvan Show Of Force was again next, there were 3 non-Officers: 2 Davals and one Ezri. I picked Ezri and a Daval, Daval died. (Rem: -10) The last dilemma was A Fast Ship Would Be Nice, Mr Spock took the fastest ship off the mortal coil that he could find. Rem solved the mission, taking him to +5 points. At this point I realise that Worf on the Enterprise has the Anthropology and Civilian needed to pass Primitive Culture. I was pretty sure that was the last dilemma under Investigate Coup, so I moved across and beamed everybody down. It was the last dilemma, I solved the mission taking me to 75 points. Rem's crew makes it across to Seek Life-Form, and attempts. Lack Of Prep, Gravimetric Distortion and Maglock were all breezed through, but unfortunately for Rem, Dead End was the last dilemma. Leaving Arnie Darvin on K7, I bring all my other folk still sitting there into the present on the Battle Cruiser, move the Enterprise there also, and put everyone on board the Gr'oth. I switch skills with the Communicator, giving McCoy Uhura's Youth. I move next door to Study Plasma Streamer, and attempt. Distraction stopped Fontaine and Lt Dax. Chula: The Abyss stopped Worf, Lt Bashir and Lt Sisko. Gravimetric Distortion was passed by Mr Scott and Daval, and having proved Astrophysics I show Uhura from the crew for the Youth and the win. Final score 105-5 to me.

Round 3FederationMatthew ZinnoFL (-100)View opponent's Report
Round 3: vs commdecker With a duplicated Agricultural Assessment and Cargo Rendezvous, it was soon pretty clear that I was facing another Organian deck. I got Arne Darvin out quickly, and then Kras/35th Rule out soon after that. They soon died at the hands of a larger Klingon force, however. This ended up being quite painful as I ended up lacking any ships for the whole game: I drew the Constitution with a Ref cycle on my last turn, and drew the Gr'oth at the end of that turn. My outpost was on the shared Agricultural Assessment, but knowing what dilemmas were under there (even after switching some around) I was never comfortable attempting it. Also, the Containment Field sitting on Decker's side of the table discouraged me from downloading anything, ever. Decker attempted Explore Black Cluster. Lack Of Prep, Gravimetric Distortion and Maglock were breezed through, Dead End wasn't. Evaluate Terraforming was attempted next. Crisis would have stopped them, but Mirror Kirk downloaded the Classic Communicator to get Leadership onto the planet. Denevan Neural Parasites saw Mr Scott on the enterprise download the phaser to the 3-person Away Team, saving Chief Surgeon McCoy and discarding Gibson. A Fast Ship would Be Nice took out Moreau (because I'm an idiot, you know I should have taken out McCoy), McCoy was safe from Hunter Gangs where Moreau wouldn't have been. McCoy solved the mission. This planet had a 62nd Rule on it, so that took me to -10 and Decker to +45. Decker moved along to Investigate Sighting. Lack Of Prep missed but Stellar Flare hit. Next turn Maglock is passed, as was Dangerous Liaisons. A Mission Specialist put the mission's value to 40, Decker went to 85 points. Next turn, with some ship hopping, he moved across to the cleared-out Black Cluster, scoring 35 points and the win. Final score 120 to -10, to Matt. Good, if painful, game.
