Introduction

Round 1KlingonGreg DillonFW (+35)
Round 1 - vs Latok: This was my first Block game, and when the missions were seeded (duplicating Steal Technology and Salvage Borg Ship) it looked like Latok was playing Klingon. And in fact he was. There's been talk on the boards about how the Klingons are really good in Block, so I was a little concerned. We played a bunch of cards, then Latok felt ready to start attempting missions. He attempted his Outpost mission, Romulus, and got me a card draw with Flim-Flam Artist. I decided to risk attempting, too, moving across to Revenge Plot. Forsaken sent DaiMon Bok to the bottom of my deck, and I did have enough Treachery and Cunning to get through New Essentialists. The Away Team didn't take well to being so far away from Ferenginar, and got Distracted By Thoughts Of Home. Then God blew up my only ship in play. Latok reattempted, getting me another draw, then that dilemma was passed. Founder Secret stopped that attempt in its tracks, however. He sent a ship to the neighbouring mission, Seize Freighter, and redshirted. Magnetic Field Disruptions stopped Losta, the only crew member. another crew moved across, MFD stopped Vekor, the rest managed to continue. Distracted By Thoughts Of a Subspace Shock-Wave, the Mercenary Ship was damaged, and B'Somgh and TNG Koral died. I'd managed to draw into the Kurdon, so that was my card play, and I downloaded DaiMon Bok from the bottom of my draw deck. With him and my freebies that turn, I moved back to Revenge Plot and reattempted with everybody. I pitched a spare Surprise Party, because Distracted... was still there. Bok and a bunch of folks got me to 35 points. Latok solved the just-cleared-out Seize Freighter. I move to attempt Amnesty Talks, but there weren't enough Diplomacy on the ship to pass Gomtuu Shock Wave. Fortunately, Tin Man put the Kurdon back on the outpost... Founder Secret was passed, now Latok had HQ: War Room and a load of high-Strength Klingons in the attempt. Next up was Armus: skin Of Evil, and Captain Worf and Zegov were selected (I had All-Consuming Evil in play). ETU saved Worf. Back To Basics then put my destroyed ship back in my deck. This was the last dilemma under Romulus, and he solved, taking him to 65 points. I TMW'd my Spock into play, and attempted Ferenginar. Dead End. OK then... Latok attempted Steal Technology (brave since we both seeded 3 dilemmas under it) with a small crew, saw Armus: Energy Field, and doesn't pass. I sent a D'Kora Transport over to Amnesty Talks, and passed Gomtuu Shock Wave. Next up is Radioactive Garbage Scow. I have Range to move it, but not to get back. Latok pitched Get It Done to raise Captain Worf's stats. Armus selected Kurak and Captain Worf, which stopped the attempt. Gowron pitched Make It So to unstop everybody, and rearranged some folk, Armus selected Vekor and Zegov from the attempt, and Kargan and Vekma from the other ship. Zegov was vital to the attempt, so Energy Field remained unpassed. Gozar + War Room pass Subspace Shock Wave (phew!) and Birth Of Junior plays on the ship (only 2 Engineer aboard). I have the skills to solve, and solve I do, taking me to 70. I move back to the Outpost, and put an extra Engineer on the ship to pitch Junior. I move the other Transport (the one with Spock) to Ferenginar, and attempt there. Distracted By Thoughts Of God, the ship in orbit blew up, leaving the mission clear. Latok's card play was Isomagnetic Disintegrator, to get Zegov back. Armus: Energy Field is finally passed, but Gomtuu Shock Wave cuts short the attempt. And damages the ship. Feeling the pressure, the Mercenary Vessel with a small crew try and Raid an Ancient Burial Site. Distracted By Thoughts Of Home when Armus spun his Roulette wheel (perhaps he should move from Vagra to Theta VIII), B'Somgh and Vekor found a new home in the discard pile, while Kargan and Vekor were stopped. This left Tallera to die a horrible death due to the Skin Of Evil. (I guess Armus did find a new home after all, Ancient Burial Site was at one end of the spaceline, Vagra II was at the other.) I pitched the other Surprise Party, Spock and Quark hold their own party and solve Ferenginar for the win. I had not remembered that there were so many dilemmas under Steal Technology, I thought that Energy Field would be passed a lot sooner and the other dilemmas would be busted through quickly, so I was a bit worried when he was attempting there, so the game seemed a lot closer to me than it probably was, but particularly when he hit 65 first. Good game! Final score: 100-65 to me.

Round 2KlingonJon CarterFL (-35)View opponent's Report
Round 2 - vs pfti: Jonathan was playing Klingons, and we shared 2 missions: Amnesty Talks and Save Stranded Crew. The latter was pretty close to my Outpost and Homeworld, so I got a ship there pretty quick once I got Let's See What's Out There in hand. I also got Spock out really early. Right after the pointy-eared one came out, Pfti felt comfortable attempting Romulus. His Away Team of 6 folk were initially Distracted By Thoughts Of Home, Armus Roulette killed B'Somgh and Commander K'Ehleyr and stopped Vekma and Zegov, Armus Skin Of Evil killed Korris and Dr Zaius (I mean, Syrus), ending the attempt. Next turn, Jon reattempted Romulus, and God blew up his Pagh. With Gowron on. The Pagh was quickly replaced, but Gowron wasn't. A turn or two later, Pfti tried Host Metaphasic Shielding Test, but was stopped immediately by The Arsenal: Separated. My turn, I ventured forth and attempted Ferenginar. New Essentialists was easily passed. Armus Roulette killed Dr Arridor and Gozar, Picking Up The Pieces stopped Spock, so that dilemma went away and the mission attempt was over. Pfti came back to Romulus to solve it. 35 points. I reattempt Ferenginar, and hit Dangerous Climb. No Geology, and Strength of exactly 40 killed Kol, who I save with an ETU. Jon's Klingons moved back to Host Metaphasics and attempted, this time getting past the Arsenal. Microbrain stopped the only Exo, B'Somgh, so Linguistic Legerdemain hit. This time, I get past Dangerous Climb. I had to bring an Acquisition over from the outpost to solve, but solve I did, getting 30 points. Figuring I wouldn't be able to solve this turn, I move folk across and attempt Salvage Borg Ship. The Arsenal Separated a couple of folk, but kept Spock in the attempt. Chula The Chandra stopped only Spock, Microbrain stopped my Exobiology person, Linguistic Legerdemain found no Exo or Anthro left, so killed the mission for 5 turns. Pfti moved across to another Space mission. Magnetic Field Disruptions stopped Jo'Bril, Distracted By Thoughts Of Home/Subspace Shock Wave damaged the Pagh. I moved across to Revenge Plot. New Essentialists was blasted past, Armus Roulette selected four, but one was Spock so no-one died. Armus skin Of Evil tried to kill Rata and Kol, but I saved them with ETUs. Founder Secret stopped everyone. Jon swooped in and solved his Seize Freighter for 30 points (Mission Specialist, no Korris or Konmel). 65 to him. I played War Room, and moved everyone across to Revenge Plot. With tons of people plus the War Room bonuses, Founder Secret was beaten. 35 points took me to 65, I moved both ships towards Steal Technology. Neither could reach it this turn. Linguistic Legerdemain counted down on Host Metaphasics, and Jon solved that for the win. with Dr Christopher, it was 45 points. Final score: 110 to pfti, 65 to me. Good game.

Round 3KlingonRomulanRem BoonFW (+55)
Round 3 - vs Boon Of Bolian: This tournament hasn't been specifying who goes first, so we flipped and Rem won the toss. Rem was playing with the ever-popular Klingons. Interestingly, he also had the Office Of The Proconsul seeded: I believe this was for Alidar Jarok (who did see the light of day) and his download of Tactical Scan (that card did see play, but Jarok's download wasn't used for it). Most of Mr Boon's missions were on one side, mine were mostly on the other. Ferenginar was into his side, the shared Amnesty Talks was next to that (on my side), and Acquire Surplus Ships was his mission between Amnesty Talks and the rest of my missions. He had an outpost there, and also a Great Hall on Qo'nos (which didn't seem to get used). Thinking he might attack me and lose a bunch of my folk before he got to Surplus Ships, I put the Flim-Flam combo there. On his first turn, Rem redshirted Surplus Ships. All right! A draw! I built up my forces. A few turns later, Rem attempted Surplus Ships again. Another draw, and he passed Flim-Flam. Founder Secret stopped him, however. At this point, my Surprise Party shows up. His next turn, he plays a Vulcan Tricorder, and gets past Founder Secret. Armus: Skin Of Weevils was next (with my All-Consuming Weevils in play), Commander K'Ehleyr and Vash were selected. Rem tried to save K'Ehleyr, but ETU requires that she goes to a ship, and alas he had no ships in play yet. Back To Basics did nothing. Acquire Surplus Ships was solved for 35 (Q'elyn as Acquisition Mission Specialist). I attempt my Outpost mission (right next to his): Steal Technology. Topological Anomaly 4747 stopped Daimon Bok. Birth Of Junior hit. I don't have the Engineer to get past War Games. My next turn, I play Obol, War Room and Levin for free, and Spock as card play discarding Temporal Micro-Wormhole. Spock gets rid of Topological Anomaly 4747, I have 3 Engineer to pitch Junior, and I reattempt. War Games is passed, but Virus hits. Boon's turn now. He brings along a K'Vort and the Batris. Tactical Scan is played from hand, naming Plasma Energy Burst. I draw an Energy Burst and a Ferengi Energy Weapon, so that worked out. Rem pulled a Maximum Firepower/ I return fire on the Batris, we both score a direct hit. 3 Energy Weapons and a Plasma Burst fail to destroy the Batris, but they wipe out its crew. Boon's 4 Tactics should have destroyed me, but he used Officer Exchange Program to pitch a Quantum Torpedo for 5 points. [We both fail to notice that the Pagh wasn't actually in that battle, so he shouldn't have been able to do that, but oh well. too late now.] This puts Rem on 45 points. His Tactics killed Levin, Daimon Bok and Dr Arridor. I dock the much-afflicted Kurdon and jump on the D'Kora Transport there. I solve Steal Technology. 35 to me. The Transport moves across to the next mission: Salvage Borg Ship. Microbrain stopped Levin. Triage selected Obol, I chose to let him die, but then saed him with an ETU. Linguistic Legerdemain was next, Baht and Gozar brought the Anthopology and the Exobiology, so thankfully I wasn't waiting around for several turns. I was, however, missing the Astrophysics for solving the mission, so I passed the turn to Boon. He played Inspection. I feared another attack, but he went to his Outpost and picked some folk up. I move back to my Outpost to pick some folk up, I stay docked at the end of the turn. A Tactic disappeared from the Kurdon. Rem moves his ship to Seize Freighter, and attempts. Magnetic Field Disruptions hit B'Somgh, Zegov gets stopped to keep him alive. Cunning is proven. Distracted By Thoughts Of Home/Subspace Shock Wave hit. One Burst, one Weapon go on his ship, so 3 people die (Kitrik, Zegov, Vekma, ETU saves Kitrik). I play Rata and Isomagnetic Disintegrator, then the resurrected Dr Arridor. I move to Salvage Borg Ship, and complete. 35 more points brings me to 70. I move along to Revenge Plot, and attempt, particularly thinking that I might not actually complete this turn. Tense Negotiations stops Spock. A Good Day To Lie finds a bunch of Treachery, so Duras shows up. Forsaken is next, I send Mordoc and Rata to the bottom of the deck. Lastly... Dead End. Nice! Do I have 2 Treachery left? (I know that Bok is in my hand, you see.) Gozar is my first-spotted Exobiology, Levin is my first-spotted Medical. Gozar also has a Treachery. Then I find Dr Arridor with the last Treachery, bringing me up to 105 points. That was a fun, kinda tense, game! Final score: 105-45 with me having the higher score.

Round 4KlingonMilesStuntDoubleFL (-100)
Round 4 - vs MilesStuntDouble Mr Stunt Double was playing Klingons. We shared Ferenginar and Salvage Borg Ship. 2 missions, seems to be par for course. We both had Ferengi Trading Post at Salvage Borg Ship, which was a mission or two away from Ferenginar. The Klingon Outpost was just the other side. MSD didn't seed many dilemmas under the shared missions, but I knew what I'd put there. He also had a spaceline completely planet. I decide to attempt first: Salvage Borg Ship. I'm not sure what 2 dilemmas MSD put there, but I know I can get past the Separated/Microbrain/Linguistic Legerdemain combo I put there. Separated stops 2 of my 4 uniques (one being Exobiology, but that's OK). Plenty of Universals. A Good Day To Lie is next, I squeak through that, and Duras is downloaded to the opposing FTP. Microbrain stops someone, but I pass it. Dignitaries And Witnesses is next, and I don't pass it. MSD sweeps in and solves the mission (getting past LL seemed like it was going to be close). 35 points MSD. His Away Team then battles mine on the planet. A surprising number of Ferengi held their own against the Klingons, no-one was mortally wounded. DR Syrus bit the dust at the end of the battle, however. I move 3 ships away from the outpost, and attempt my nearest non-shared space mission, I think this was Amnesty Talks. I attempt with the Kurdon and the big crew. All Available Personnel downloaded Skeleton Crew to another location. Distracted By Thoughts Of Home/Subspace Shock Wave hits (Picard is on another ship, and I did have War Room in play). I attempt with one of the other ships: Dead End. It doesn't help that I know there's a Dead End under Ferenginar also. MSD moves 3 K'Vorts over (one crew member on each, each a Leader) and blows up the Kurdon, losing all hands. My retaliating ships blow up one of his also. I play Isomagnetic Disintegrator so I can at least get folk back, and move everyone to the homeworld. MSD attempts Acquire Surplus Ships: one of my space combos is there. He solves with a mission specialist for an easy 35 points, putting him on 70. He attempted Romulus. Flim-Flam Artist got me a card draw, it's easily passed. So is Founder Secret. Armus Skin Of Evil kills K'Ehleyr and Kitrick. Back To Basics does nothing. With a Mission Specialist, Cloaked Mission gets him another 35 points, pushing him to 105. I take a ship to the next mission I can reach, the one with Skeleton Crew on it. I think it's Revenge Plot. Dal'Rok kills Quark, God blows up the orbiting Marauder Transport. MSD moves across to another mission. Distracted By Armus Roulette, B'Somgh and Losta died. Skin Of Evil killed Duras and Vekma. God killed the K'Vort. I take a ship with more people on, over to Revenge Plot to join the others. Attempt, Founder Secret stops them all. Another Ship, The Foragers and the previously stranded Away Team solve Control Plague, putting MSD on 140, for the end of the game. Final score: MSD 140, me 0.
