Round 1DS9JFL (-75)View opponent's Report
Round 1 - vs The Mad Vulcan: My First Ever 2e Game. I want you to know that. TMV went first. He was hoping not to, because of the Historical Research bonus. Sucker. We played a bunch of cards. Quark downloaded Tongo: Confront at some point, Seasoned Leader vs Miles O'Brien Repair Chief got J 5 points (+5). J had one Gamma Quadrant mission, Protect Wormhole, on one side of his HQ, and his other missions on the other side. He moved to Protect Wormhole and attempted with 8. I picked 4 dilemmas, which may have been slightly too many, but hey, I don't know what's reasonable. Moral Choice was first, and it picked 2 Feds and a Bajoran. They were stopped. Dark Page stopped Jadzia Dax Science Officer. Back Room Dealings stopped Data Commanding Officer. Magnetic Field Disruptions stopped Jake Sisko Temporal Anchor. The two people who were left couldn't solve. I attempted Evade Samaritan Snare with 6. Spatial Interphase cost nothing for J, with 3 high-cost missions. Between Hoshi and Tuvok, J chose Hoshi to die. I ETUd her. 2ndd up was Optical Delusion, and I didn't have Transporters present. I'd left Smiley on the HQ, so I could play more ships with him. J reattempted his mission with 8, with 4 dilemmas under I had 4 available. I pitched Predicament to make that number larger. Reflections was first. I had 7 folk in play (they all had that funny yellow icon). I could choose to stop 3 people. I chose Li Nalas, Jake Sisko and Jadzia Dax, so they would fail the next dilemma. Gravitational Anomaly was last, and it stopped everyone else. 5 dilemmas were under the mission. His next turn, he reattempted with 7 people. I drew 2 dilemmas I couldn't use, pitched Unexpected Difficulties and the 2 I drew there were also unusable. J solved the mission (+40, =40 because somewhere along the way he lost 5 points to do something). I got more people out and retrieved them from the HQ. I reattempted, with 9 folk. Another Spatial Interphase had the options of Tuvok, Travis and Hoshi. Hoshi was selected again, I ETUd her again. Pitching In was next, I chose T'Pol and Tuvok. Tsiolkovsky Infection was last, I passed, and solved the mission (+30). J took a bunch of folk to Deliver Ancient Artifact. Trelane's Trial killed the vastly outnumbered Li Nalas This set up Chula The Precipice, but a bunch of people had Leadership, Cunning of 6 and/or Honor, so it was passed. Last up was In Development, but there was only one 2-coster, George Primmin, so that misfired. 3 under. But the skills were there. (+40 =80). Tongo again, this time it was my Hypospray vs his Alvera Tree Ritual, taking me to 35. I played Maximillian Forrest and Starship Defiant (-1 with Smiley), leaving me one counter. I played In A Mirror Darkly for free, this put my hand to 7. (-5 =30). I didn't get any other cards of appropriate cost, so I had to draw one. It was a choce between drawing one and pitching an unhelpful card (Guardian's Advice had been clogging my hand for a while), or play More Than Meets The Eye (needs a Transformers AI) and lose 5 more points. I did the latter. (-5 =25). Needing points, I attempted my other Space mission, Evaluate Soliton Wave. Ominous Presence didn't get lower-costed. It picked Tuvok who stopped T'Pol (there was a 1 in 3 chance each of Vulcan, Human and Trill, the Trill wouldn't have stopped anyone else). Unfair Comparison was next, he lucked out with 14 cost to my 11 (I even had a 7 in there). This stopped Ezri, Travis and Obrist. Ezri defected. J attempted his other Planet mission. Cultural Differences was first, stopping Jake Sisko. Antedean Assassins stopped Jadzia, who was unstopped by Vascular Pad. Formal Hearing ended up being very easily passed. One of the skills wasn't there, but The Rite Of Emergence was played during that last dilemma to add a skill to Jadzia. Historical Research was solved (+35 =115). Interesting first try at Second Edition. Hey, I got points! Final score: J 115, me 25.

Round 2 - vs pfti: Well I don't think I quite understood everything our beloved 1e Rules Master was doing, but in this my second ever 2e game, he informed me it's not a spaceline, you only count the span of the missions you move from and to, not any in between. Well that makes things easier. Pfti was playing with Mirror TOS. Hey, that's another achievement I want. He went first. We played a bunch of cards. He got me to discard some things, using cards like Mutual Advantage. A couple of times he killed one of my Events. I had Smiley out and a couple of other Engineers, and pitched Guardian's Advice to play Defiant Mirror Warship at cost 3. Jon played USS Enterprise Beautiful Lady at cost +4 to score 5 points. He attempted his first mission, Investigate Sighting. My dilemma draw wasn't the most helpful ever, I played one dilemma. In Development stopped enough people to keep him from solving, however, so that was nice. I attempted Evaluate Soliton Wave with the Defiant. Ungracious Hosts was first. He had 6 cards in hand, I had a couple of people with that many skills but none with more. Not wanting to lose someone that valuable, I donated Soval, who Pfti willingly pitched 2 cards for. Breaking The Ice then stopped the rest of my folk, The Trial Never Ended was used to put that back on top of the dilemma pile, exchanged with Unorthodox Tactics. Pfti reattempted, and I again couldn't really use a lot of what I drew. I used Hard Time. This was not enough to prevent the solve. (This may have been where I thought I would have been better off using Antedean Assassins instead.) (+30 =35). I played A Sight For Sore Eyes, and Surprise Party. The latter helped me for a few turns with keeping my hand at 0. I reattempted. Causal Recursion went into my core, Breaking The Ice stopped me again. This put the Overcome dilemmas to 3. Jon attempted another mission, Excavation. Kolaran Raiders/A Private Little War seemed to work OK, preventing a solve. I got points with A Sight For Sore Eyes, discarding Causal Recursion. I reattempted and faced another Causal Recursion. I had 5 cards in the discard pile this time, and I don't think any way of retrieving them, so I pitched them. Inequitable Exchange got me back Soval, and lost me Archer, for the time being. I still had the skills to solve (ignoring A Sight For Sore Eyes, I was on 40, ASFSE ended up being destroyed and not really doing very much overall). Surprise Amity stopped me going anywhere else that turn. Coolant Leak and Triage didn't stop the solve of Excavation (+30 =65). I played Starship Defiant and T'Pol. I got the Starship to the Warship to make sure I could crew both, then moved the Warship across to Obtain Vaccine and attempted. We'll Never Know stopped everyone there. Tacking Into The Wind killed A Sight For Sore Eyes. Jon attempted Survey New World. Moral Choice stopped 3, Whisper In The Dark killed 3. He thought he could save them, but he couldn't (needed to be able to gain 2 skills with Fitting In, rather than just 1). I managed to figure out 2 solving crews for Obtain Vaccine. One Away Team attempted. The Clown: Vaccine changed Strength to Integrity, and suddenly neither crew could solve. The Gentleman Doctor McCoy stopped Jon from solving Survey New World. Around this time I was using Warship defiant to go back and forth between the HQ and the mission, which took up the 8 Range. Just grabbing the extra personnel I played. I reattempted. Jon used Conflict to get more dilemmas. Neurogenic Field stopped T'Pol. Mugato hit the table. I reattempted with the other crew. Inequitable Exchange switched Archer for Forrest. I solved the mission (+30 =70). The ship with the unstopped crew went next door to Control Plague. They couldn't solve, but I didn't say that. Coolant Leak stopped some folk, went under the mission. Pfti was trying to rebuild a crew to solve his mission. I reattempted mine on the next turn. The Oracle's Punishment stopped 2 people and put another dilemma under the mission. As he chose, the Away Team was no longer able to solve. I attempted with the other crew/Away Team, which could solve the other way (at start of attempt). Another Oracle's Punishment prevented them from solving. 5 under the mission. Jon reattempted his mission. I got to draw 3 and spend 3. This meant I could only put 1 dilemma down. Formal Hearing was my stab-in-the-dark. His team was short on Honor. And Intelligence and Cunning for the other requirement. All stopped. At this point, Jon knew that with 2 teams that could solve, one of 7 and the other of 8 people, and 5 dilemmas under the mission, that I would win the game, so he conceded. Would have been 35 points for the solve, putting me to 105, but as only 100 would be counted anyway and it was a concession, final score was 100 (me to 65 (pfti). Good game! Quite chuffed that it's my second-ever 2e game and I won it.

Round 3Terok NorMarkus EberleinFL (-20)View opponent's Report
Round 3 - vs Eberlems: Eberlems went first. My opening hand contained Obrist, and he was my first play, but it didn't seem worth using his Masaka skill. He played cards, I played cards. He didn't have Events when I played Starship Defiant, he didn't kill any of my Events but the way it panned out it was only worth playing one of them. Unexpected Difficulties stayed on the table for most of the game. Markus was playing a Terok Nor Dominion/Cardassian deck with Alpha Quadrant missions. Markus attempted a mission first. Command Decisions stopped Hugh, Chula The Precipice luckily stopped 3 people. The third dilemma was probably thus unnecessary. Guess Who's Coming To Dinner killed Imat'Korex. Kressari Rendezvous had 3 under. I attempt next at Evaluate Soliton Wave. Dark Page stopped Travis. What Lies Beneath sent Obrist beneath the draw deck. As everyone else got stopped, Ezri defected, and a Thief was just what Markus needed to feed his Morn. Kressari got reattempted. I chanced one dilemma. Breaking The Ice stopped the attempt. I reattempted. Adversarial Trial stopped Travis. Worn-Out Welcome stopped Archer, but there were Transporters and plenty of Treachery left. I even still had the skills to solve. Evaluate Soliton Wave for 30, +10 with the text on the mission for the yellow Defiant, +10 for solving first with Earth (=50). Good start. Markus reattempted. Moral Choice stopped someone. The First Duty killed Hugh. The ship and 2 Ruling Councils brought the pointage up to 60 (=60). He then moved on to attempt Deliver Prisoners. Back Room Dealings stopped Gaius Yaltar, Draft Supervisor, and Greater Needs hit. That was neat. I attempted Evade Samaritan Snare. Depression stopped someone, Legacy did nothing (we were even). Markus reattempted. Dark Page stopped Odera'Klen, Trelane's Trial stopped Yaltar, The Charismatic Mister Kor sent Hugh to the bottom of the deck. They still managed to solve (+35 =95). No points from the Vanguard of the Occupation, which was repairing elsewhere. I reattempted. Antedean Assassins stopped Hoshi. The Big Goodbye killed Mirror Trip, who was saved by an ETU. That crew was out of the picture, I attempted with another. Dark Page stopped Travis, Technique Of A Desperate Man hit, the Anthraxpology was spread too thin. Didn't stop me, though, and I could solve (+30 =80). Eberlems sent folk to attempt Survey New World. Kolaran Raiders stopped Yaltar, Old Differences stopped 2 Jemmies, The Gentleman Doctor McCoy sent Damar skittering to the bottom of the deck. Being short on Diplomacy, I sent a bunch of people to Control Plague. Yeah, teach that French beach who's boss. Cultural Differences stopped Hoshi. Occupational Hazards was rendered moot by the still-alive Archer, but I didn't sent enough Anthro to pass Quaint Technology. Given the number of Antho dilemmas that had shown up this game, I guess I should have thought a bit more about that. Markus reattempted. About all I could play was Miner Revolt. I pitched Unexpected Difficulties. Cultural Differences stopped Odera'Klen. With In-Fighting I picked Officer, and there were 4 of these. Tozara'Kesh was randomly selected. This was actually his only Engineer for the second requirements, but he actually had the first batch of skills there too. He solved the mission (+35 =130). Good game. Final score: 130 to Eberlems, 80 to me.

Closing Thoughts
I think I did quite well for my first ever 2e tournaments and my thus-far only 3 2e games. I think that any credit, however, should go to Sean O'Reilly, whose deck I stole, without changing anything. Thanks to him for making that deck public, thanks to my opponents for being patient, and to Gumbo for running the tournament!
