RomulanFederationFed Rom Treaty Achievement Hunter
Introduction

Round 1BajoranStuart MarshFL (-60)
Round 1 - vs SAM2000: I got a good start, had a couple of CM draws and got Ambassador Tomalak/Treaty out. Stuart was also having a problem drawing the wrong cards. Stuart was playing Bajorans, and the spaceline was mostly divided in 2, but we shared one mission: Evade Borg Vessel, deep in my territory. Pegasus Search was at the end, then Evade, then my Planet missions. He didn't seed an Outpost there, and only put 2 dilemmas under. I put a combo that would be easier for me to do than for him to (Iconian Computer Weapon/Armus Energy Field/Definitely Not Swedish). I got Barash out early, and Yamato pretty early as my first ship. I had Asteroid Sanctuary, Incoming Message: Romulan and a Regenerate clogging my hand, so I took all my Feds to the Romulan Outpost, left my Science on the outpost, and failed Iconian Computer Weapon. This got me more helpful cards. My next turn I went across to Investigate Massacre, where my Interphase Generator was hiding. Hippocratic Oath was a toss-up between T'Jev and another T'Jev. T'Jev went to Iconia. Male's Love Interest/Plague Ship Combo took Darian Wallace across to Locate Terrorist Leader and killed the second T'Jev (+5). Medical Crisis was thus unpassable. I Regenerated later on and thus had 2 T'Jevs in the deck, but I didn't ever have 2 in play for the rest of the game (inconvenient). I reattempted Evade Borg Vessel, knowing what I'd put there. Next up was Forsaken, which found me short the necessary skills. Dabo got Mr 2000 6 points. His next turn, he attempted to secure Bajor. He played The Genesis Effect, naming Dead End. Phased Matter was its customary useless self. Horta killed Kasidy Yates. Hologram Ruse was not passed with the massive number of people needed with Barash in play. End of turn, Tabor was discarded. Hippocratic Oath finished counting down and I got that T'Jev back. I passed Forsaken, sending Parem and Sirol to the bottom of the deck. I was now short of Leadership for Armus. SAM2000 passed Hologram Ruse. The Vengeance Factor was next, thus Yuta was next. I calculated Vedek Dax's score as 7 (after factoring in the Shakaar bonus), so I called out 7 and Ayala bit the dust. Still, this guaranteed a fail of doubled The Gatherers This discarded a Latinum from the Away Team, a Tent from his hand, and sacrificed Vedek Dax to the Horta. Stuart had been Daboing, now his points were 18. I Holodeck Doored for Admiral Picard, and reattempted Evade Borg Vessel. Guess who was stopped by the Energy Field. Stuart switched Anastasia Komananov for Colonel Kira. Then he finished securing Bajor and earned a Starry Night, getting him the Orbs of Wisdom and Prophecy And Change (+35 =53). He sent a redshirting crew to Characterize Neutrino Emissions, the one guy that was sent couldn't pass Personal Duty. I finally got a Hidden Fighter. Not the most helpful card I could get, but could be worse. Dabo! (+6 =59) I reattempted, saving some people for the suspected Ankari Spirits, this time I couldn't pass Armus because Taitt got stopped. Next time I did get through, and it was Ankari Spirits. Gibson and Commander Troi bit the dust. Then I realised that I was short an Engineer in the held-back team for the curing. Oops. Stuart Reflection Therapied someone for the expected Friendly Fire, and sent a crew to hopefully beat it. Personal Duty stopped the Reflection Therapied Shakaar (which gave him 2 Leadership by taking away a Geology), which spoiled that notion (it was a 50/50 chance), and then Virus hit. Lian T'su and Seth Mendoza died to the Spirits. I Regenerated for the second time, and switched folk from the Yamato to the Terix. I reattempted. Definitely Not Swedish did nothing, as I had the cards to download and Stuart didn't. My Nav specialist had recently died, so I solved the mission without any bonus (+35 =40). I sent the Terix to the Fed Outpost, and picked up the Science Vessel (which had been sent there so I could Hidden Fighter the Apnex to send Agyer to pick up Darian). I moved to Iconia to attempt there. I passed Founder Secret. Chula the Chandra picked Chris Hobson, which stopped some folks and others kept going. 6 people then died to Kazon Bomb. SAM2000 returned his ship to hand, then played it for free and went and got a bunch of people at Characterize Neutrino Emissions to attempt. He called well, Abandon Ship! now did nothing. He solved, with 1 Mission Specialist still present, for 40 points. He'd scored more for Dabo, so this brought him to 103. Good game, I think we gave each other a good run for our money. Final score: FW SAM2000 with 103, I got 40.

Round 2FerengiKenneth TuftsFL (-50)
Round 2 - vs Worf Son Of Mogh: Ken was playing an FMO deck. He was running with Mercenaries and Scientific Diplomacy, and was playing and drawing at a pretty good rate. He also had the Civil War Tent. He attempted first, at Host Metaphasic Shielding Test. Iconian Computer Weapon was always going to be a misfire against TNG Ferengi (and most other folks, too). Armus Energy Field stopped Mordoc and then everyone else. There were a few The Powers going round as part of Ken's strategy. I got to discard some useful cards sometimes (Isomag, helpful-looking people, Secure Homeworld right when he needed it). Leaving some folk on the Outpost, the Ferengi (and non-aligned) hordes bust through the Energy Field, and the Definitely Not Swedish combo. Kayron boosted the mission points to 45 (+45). A lack of Science in the discard pile meant no extra Scientific Diplomacy points, which bit Ken in the ass (so to speak) later. Ken attempted The Last Outpost. Horta killed Dr Reyga. Hologram Ruse was easily beaten (even with the Integrity) as Barash was not yet out. The Vengeance Factory was last, and Yuta was the first of those downloaded dilemmas. I guessed at 6, having had a quick look through the folk who were there. I remembered the Lower Decks, but not the Ferengi Disruptor that was there. I got lucky and killed Agyer. The doubled Gatherers did hit, and ditched the aforementioned Disruptor and an Engineering PADD, and an Isomagnetic Disintegrator from hand. More people beamed down and solved the mission (+35 =80), earning a Stone Of Gol on the way. This was pitched with Mercenary Raiders for 15 points (+15 =95). I threw Eric Pressman and Sito Jaxa at Breach Barrier, a mission Ken had seeded. Personal Duty stopped Eric, and Virus stopped the attempt, slowing down the Pegasus along the way. I then threw everyone on the Haakona at that mission. Abandon Ship! did nothing. I solved with a Mission Specialist for 45, and used the mission text to bring it up to 50 points. Mr Of Mogh Isomagnetic-ed himself. He was pretty close to his homeworld, and here was when he used The Power and I got rid of the Secure Homeworld. He daisychained across to Raid Ancient Burial Site, and threw half his people at it. Both halves could just about solve. Phased Matter did its customary nothing. Hanonian Land Eel was passed. DNP killed 5 people, and Founder Secret was not passed. The folk who didn't beam down couldn't pass that on their own, either. Keeping only Pressman on the Pegasus, I phased it and took it as far as it would go towards my Outposts. I took the Haakona next door to Iconia and attempted. Ken grabbed Access Denied to put on there. Shore Leave was first. I had 3 females and a bunch of males. Parallel Romance stopped the perfect match of Sito Jaxa and R'Mal (there goes a Mission Specialist bonus), and Female's Love Interest sent Commander Troi to Reopen Dig (a bit too far out of Ken's way for an easy 5-point FMO bonus). Matriarchal Society I couldn't pass this turn. Ken passed Founder Secret and solved his mission (+40 =135). Good game. Ken's was the kind of deck I thought I might need Scan Cycle Check for, but I didn't really need it. It clogged my hand for much of the game (it was helpful when I discarded it, IM: Romulan and Wrong Door for his Handshake). Think I stayed in the game pretty well. Final score: Worf Son Of Mogh got 135, I got 50.

Round 3HirogenMichael Van BreemenFL (-35)
Round 3 - vs TheNinjaScot: Mr Van Breemen was playing a Hirogen deck, enhanced as ever by Equinox. As such we were in separate quadrants (but the banter crossed the table). Some standard tricks: ASP for Nydom for Ancestral Vision for draws, a free Tanis at Liberation. I attempted pretty early at Investigate Massacre, throwing my Mission Specialists and first-turn AAH play to face their doom. Darian was captured by Now Would Be A Good Time. I also got Ambassador Tomalak out first-turn. Michael threw a bunch of people (still only second turn) at a space mission. Iconian Computer Weapon was easily passed, One being the representative, who was then stopped by Armus: Energy Field. The mission requirements were still present. Definitely Not Swedish was next. My first Raygun discarded Hajur, and stopped Donik. Strict Dress Code killed Netek. Study Protonebula was solved with a Mission Specialist (+35). I played some more cards, then delivered some Romulans to Massacre. I cloaked the ship in orbit with Ambassador Tomalak on board. shot In The Back killed Varel, I Hate You was not passed, with a lack of Youth left. The Hirogen Hordes attempted another space mission, but got stopped by The Clown My Festival. I played a Holodeck Door and got Prot, who magically has Youth. I solved Investigate Massacre and got the Interphase Generator (+35). I moved over Pegasus Search to the Romulan Outpost at Sensitive Search. I attempted with everyone, but Crisis stopped me. MVB selected his crew, and reattempted. He passed The Clown. He only had 2 Security, so for Kelvan I chose B'Elanna and Jorik. B'Elanna died. Berserk Changeling wasn't passed, because of a lack of Security, hand weapons, banned Ref cards, and Interphase Generators. Holodeck Door got me a Commander Data, and I put Varley on the ship in orbit. I reattempted, got past Crisis. Hero Worship stopped a couple of Mission Specialists and a few 4-skilled people. This left the Support Personnel and 3-skilled folk to face "God". Dan Kwan and Lian T'su passed it. Beaming Varley down I had the skills to solve (+30 =65). This also earned me the Iconian Gateway. Berserk Changeling was gotten through, and Battle Reconnaissance was solved (+40 =75). Needing a Planet mission, MVB rallied his forces, daisy-chaining back to the Outpost for reinforcements and back to Prevent Annihilation, fully prepared for an annihilation of his own. Phased Matter was solved when Seven Of Nine went into a small Away Team all of her own. Horta killed Hogan. Doubled Hologram Ruse had been prepared for, and was passed. I was an idiot when The Vengeance Factor was revealed, and miscalculated Seven's Yuta number. Which was Seven. I was an idiot and picked the Of Nine instead, and that was nobody's number. Doubled Gatherers still stopped them, though. Netek's karma came round again when the Horta ate him. Certain I'd only have one turn to try and win, I threw everyone except Barash at Pegasus Search, along with the Interphase Generator. Devastating Communique was too much for the empathic Troi to bear. Strict Dress Code killed Ambassador Tomalak. V'Ger found me short an Empathy and a Diplomacy. Oops. Bye-bye, ship, and all-but-one person I had in play! Michael solved Prevent Annihilation (+40 =115), and that was the game. good, fun game. Felt pretty close, too. Final score: TheNinjaScot got a FW with 115, I got 65.

Round 4DominionMatt KirkFL (-100)
Round 4 - v CaptMDKirk: Matt was playing a Non-Aligned heavy Dominion deck, using Homefront and Shape-Shift to get his Founders into play. No Jem'hadar, I think Achievement-hunting there. The game went quite poorly for me. The lack of Ref cards in my deck seems to have been not a good choice. Matt did quite a bit of first-turn downloading. I got the Ambassador out first turn and downloaded the Treaty, I had to put the Apnex on Containment Field and that was the only ship to reach my hand all game. Of course it was discarded with a Ref-cycle. I attempted first, at Massacre with 4 Feds. They were all stopped with Shall We Begin Again? Kirk then attempted to Collect Metaphasic Particles. All Available Personnel downloaded Skeleton Crew to a mission that didn't get attempted in the game. The Chandra stopped only 2 people, one of them was Founder Leader who replaced herself with Homefront 2 Dominion Odo. The 8-or-so high-Cunning people who continued passed Impressive Trophies. The mission was solved (+35, +1 turn). George and Gracie travelled to the present-day (+15 =50). The Feds reattempted Massacre. Access Denied was downloaded, Ferengi Ingenuity stopped me (one Computer Skill there: downloaded the wrong Barash person, it seems). Kirk played a free Espionage On Feds to Pegasus Search, which was sadly the first mission I pulled and it wound up right next to Earth. He attempted. He passed The Arsenal: Divided and The Cloud by design, Dead End did nothing as he had 50 points. Not all the skills were there in the attempt, but some beaming and unstopping later and the mission was solved (+50 =100). Good game. Final score: CaptMDKirk FW, 100 to my 0.

Round 5KlingonRomulanFederationbunzFW (+15)
Round 5 - vs Bunz: Bunz was playing a Triple Treaty deck, which is something I keep failing to get round to. My opening turn I threw my two Mission Specialists, and my turn's Attention All Hands free play, at the Fed Outpost mission Sensitive Search. Chris Hobson and Lian T'Su died to Denevan Neural Parasites, leaving Darian Wallace defenseless against the might of Founder Secret. Almost a shame I wasn't doing the Interphase Generator mission (Iconia Investigation). Bunz had 2 Outpost missions, Secret Salvage II and Explore Typhon Expanse II. He attempted the Klingon Outpost. He blew past The Clown: My Festival, and hit Kelvan Show Of Force. The Kelvans took a dislike to the Sons Of Mogh and Mercenary Riker. The weight of the extra person angered the Kelvans, who squished the Sons. Then, for good measure, a Berserk Changeling killed Gibson. I'd gathered enough forces, and got the Romulans in on the Fed Outpost action. They beamed down. The Founder Secret was beaten out of the dilemma (showing our Sensitive side while Searching for answers). This was the last dilemma, we solved the mission (+30). Iconian Gateway went to hand. Bunz passed Berserk Changeling and solved the mission (+25). He then threw some people at Diplomatic Conference (and boy was I missing Lack Of Prep). All Available Personnel got Skeleton Crew onto Raid Ancient Burial Site. Chula The Chunder picked Mercenary Riker, and 3 people got to continue with him. Impressive Trophies hit, and I captured Riker. I played the Gateway and walked a bunch of people over to Iconia. Not quite the right ones, I found out when I attempted. Mission Fatigue was first, I had the Empathy but not the Leadership. Bunz reattempted Diplomatic Conference and passed Phased Matter. He hadn't yet rounded up all the VIPs to solve it, however. I reattempted, and didn't have the Diplomacy to pass The Clown: Guillotine. That killed T'Jev and stopped an assload of people. At this point I was short on personnel in hand, and the drawing was not happening. I sent the folk I'd been holding back with the not-still-stopped folk. Luckily, no Diplomacy was picked for Fatigue, so I passed Guillotine. Last up was Cytoplasmic Life-Form, which found me quite short of Exobiology. That stopped me. Bunz solved Diplomatic Conference (+60 =85). I got all my stopped people back, Mission Fatigue went away, I solved Iconia and got the Generator (+35 =65). I Hidden Fightered for the Apnex, and held the Generator and Ambassador Tomalak back. I sent everyone else on the Enterprise to attempt Pegasus Search. Dead End did nothing, and I quite easily passed Ferengi Infestation. I inadvertently solved the mission (+50, +5 for Mission Specialist =120). Bunz had a Q The Referee out but decided not to In The Zone me. We played another turn anyway where he easily secured Earth (Horta/Vengeance combo), and we peeked at the combo under Evade Borg Vessel, where I figured I'd have to throw everyone if I'd had to take another turn. They wouldn't have done so well. Good game, was scary how close it ended up being. Final score: I got FW with 120, Bunz got a great 85.
