Round 1BorgMatthew ZinnoFL (-30)View opponent's Report
Round 1 - v commdecker: Well, first game back in the swing of things after a month off (due to new baby arriving and house reorganising). This was a pretty barnstorming game. Matt was running an AQ spaceline. The Klingon icon appeared 5 times, Romulan 4 times, Feds 3 times, Bajoran and Dominion twice, and Cardassian once. The one mission with only Car/Baj/Dom was interesting. All became clear when They Will Be Coming showed up on Collect Omicron Particles. Oh dear. That mission was the last of mine to be pulled from the tab, so it was Collect Omicron, Liberation, Prevent Annihilation, Combat Training, Salvage Operation, Stop Bombardment. The Tactical Cube stayed parked at Prevent Annihilation for a lot of the game. My start wasn't the quickest ever, Matt got his Cube staffed first turn. I attempted first, staying at Liberation (I wouldn't have if I'd been running Ancestral Vision, as one always worries about Horta). The Weak Will Perish killed off my Alpha Quadrant folks, Narik and Maques. Distracted By Thoughts Of Home was next, followed by Spatial Rift. Karden and Neelix took the quick trip to the discard pile, and Halok and Lagren magically got rid of it. Phew! Mission Debriefing stopped them when they couldn't solve. I pitched a Handshake to solve with Seska, Culluh and Razik. (+30) Matt played an Assimilate Planet on Stop Bombardment, where he had a Kobayashi Maru. Unscientific Method was first, I chose to kill Gowron Of Borg but the Reclamation Drone saved him, Medical Crisis was passed. I sent the Miradorn Raider to attempt Collect Omicron Particles. Combo Scow didn't manage to steal any women, but Mission Debriefing stopped me. I moved the Scow away with Voyager, I scraped together enough Engineers for that. Decker successfully probed for Assimilate Planet on Stop Bombardment (+25). I played Karden a second time. I got him onto the Miradorn Raider with Voyager acting as the shuttle. The Raider reattempted, hitting a Macrovirus. Tanis died. Then The Cloud hit. 2 Cutting Beams landed on the Raider. Zinno grabbed an Eliminate Starship, came over and wiped out the Raider, dragging the Scow back over there while he was at it. Then he scouted and completed Salvage Starship at that location (+30 =55). I realised I could still solve the mission, so I (after getting Karden back in play for the Navigation) got the Scow back to Liberation, sent a Spacedoored Boarding Pod to solve (+40 with a Mission Specialist =70), and then downloaded a The Gift to Kes on the Boarding Pod. I moved it to Salvage Operation, which seems to have been a mistake. While I was doing that, Matt was scouting Prevent Annihilation. Another Kobayashi Maru was there, and 2 dilemmas, I had figured it was the same combo as the other one: Unscientific Method/Medical Crisis. It was. I was short on Computer Skill for the solving, and probably the Med and Bio for the dilemmas. I got Karden out again. Here's where I solved and moved. I would have been safer putting it at a planet mission. As it was, Matt came over and blew it up (choosing no Tactic and inflicting default damage on it), opening Salvage Operation up to Salvage Starship. And he got the points for Assimilating Planet (+25 =80). So Salvage Starship it was. Combo Scow did nothing against Borg, Macrovirus killed someone but they were saved with the Reclamation Drone, The Cloud was passed. I moved Voyager, but should have done it a turn earlier (it was safe from Gowron's once per game dealio), I didn't get to the missions or get a Scow off them. CommDecker got a good probe for Eliminate Starship and the win. Final score: CommDecker 110, me 70.

Round 2FerengiVidiianbunzFW (+15)
Round 2 - vs Bunz: Dan confused me a little by playing with one Delta mission and a bunch of Alpha missions. He was running Vidiians and Talaxians for one 55-point Delta mission, and Ferengi in the Alpha Quandrant. I placed dilemmas I thought I could pass under Restore Victims, and then I realised I only had one Transporter Skill in the deck, and no skill-gaining. I started all right, playing Tanis and a Rifle for free, TMWing Dr McCoy (who I don't think I even saw last game), and the standard DH for Razik. Dan had a lot of downloads on his first turn. Wow. He had quite a lot of people out. He attempted Restore Victims, and bailed with DNA Clues. I tried Handshaking, Bunz pitched 3 GPLs. That was the only Handshake that made it out of my deck all game. I Spacedoored for the Miradorn Raider. I took it over to Stop Bombardment and threw some people at it. I completely lucked through Lack Of Prep and Hanonian Land Eel (the Rifle pushed the 36 Strength to 54). Last up was the Denevan Neural Parasites, which selected Tanis, Ril and McCoy. I saved McCoy because of the TMW, and put the others in the deck with Mutation. Dan hunted through his deck for a Vidiian Leadership, but didn't find one, so he couldn't steal my mission. He reattempted his own, finding a Hunter Probe (he failed that, I chose Mabus and Sulan: the one NA guy he still had at that mission, and someone with multiple skills that the mission needed. Garak Has Some Issues was easily passed. The mission skills weren't there, and then somehow even fewer of them were there at the end of the turn. Hehehe. Razik had the skills that I'd lost from Stop Bombardment, so I took him over there and solved (Ayala brought the pointage up to 40). I got my only Ready Room Door of the game, I used it to get Lower Decks rather than Culluh. I sent some people to attempt Liberation. Other missions were too close to Restore Victims, I didn't really have the skills around for Prevent Annihilation, and as I'd lost a Command star for the Miradorn Raider, I didn't want to risk Voyager at Collect Omicron Particles. Duonetic Field Generator was first, and I didn't have all the Engineer I needed to get rid of that. Linguistic Legerdemain was next, and I actually had the skills. Funnily enough, I also had a Fed, a Non-Aligned and a Kazon... I couldn't solve at that point, though. Lacking a Transporter Skill and a Neelix. Bunz came and stole my Salvage Operation. Funnily enough, I actually had the anti-mission-stealing Ref card int he deck, but I didn't check for it in time. The Swarm hit his ship, Scout Encounter did nothing. With two of the skills, Dan got 30 points for it. Dan attempted Purchase Moon, hit a Forsaken and couldn't do it. His next turn he moved past Samaritan Snare to Salvage Borg Ship. Chula The Chandra was first. Stopped a few people, didn't really matter as next up was Dead End, and he didn't have 50 points yet. You may well ask why Dead End went in the middle of the combo. 1, I hadn't really designated combos for this tourney, just took a bunch of dual DS9 dilemmas, and 2, it was a little after 6am and I wasn't thinking well enough to put Dead End at the beginning or end. I blew up the Vidiian Scout Vessel that had come over and stolen my mission. Dan attempted another mission, Samaritan Snare, I think, and got stopped by Arms Deal. I attacked some Vidiians that had been left on Combat Training to keep them safe from the destruction of the Vidiian Scout. I killed a Physics, which Dan had actually been hoping I'd do, so he could Nanoprobe him back to hand. He needed the Physics for solving the mission, you see, and I was hoping to make it harder to retrieve him. I did the opposite, and wasn't going to risk throwing an Away Team for an attack at Restore Victims, where the Vidiian and Paxim army put Sauron's to shame. The Vidiians solved Restore Victims (+55 =85). Some Ferengi and AQNA reattempted Samaritan Snare, but failed Ferengi Infestation. I solved Liberation and got rid of the Duonetic Field Generator (+30 =70). The Ferengi moved back to Salvage Borg Ship, failing Remat Detonator. I attempted Collect Omicron Particles, but was a skill short with Armus Energy Field. Dan realised he was short an Astrophysics for solving Salvage Borg Ship, Mordoc had been left a couple of missions away at the Ferengi Trading Post (if that hadn't happened, it would have been the game to Bunz). He beamed up his folk to his ship to go retrieve him, I killed his Command star, so he couldn't move the Marauder. I went for broke and threw everyone at Collect Omicron Particles. Rabek was stopped (for the second time from the same dilemma). Next up was spatial Rift, which killed the just-played and ever-wise Jabin, and the bar rodent Neelix. I still had the skills for the mission, including Ayala (+40 =110). Good game, pretty funny. Final score: 110 to me, 85 to Bunz.

Round 3BajoranRomulanHirogenStuart MarshFL (-20)
Round 3 - vs SAM2000: Stu was running with half his missions DQ, and half AQ. We shared Liberation and the new Collect Omicron Particles. He was running Hirogen with a little bit of Drone Control Room. And a Nagus in DS9 at the Bajoran Wormhole. He went first, and started loading Target Shields onto Voyager (docked at the outpost). Only one person was on the Tsunkatse Ship at that point, so I downloaded the Boarding Pod and attacked. Play was suspended while Penk was joined by Hajur, so I didn't get to commandeer that ship. Soon afterwards, all my folk there were dead or captured, apart from Ayala, so I couldn't get him to safety. A bunch of points were racked up with Relics Of The Chase. I attempted first, at Combat Training. Arsenal Separated was first. I had one Universal and 6 uniques, I shuffled up the uniques and divided them evenly into two. Ril, Tanis, Razik and Lagren continued. Subspace Fracture was next. I passed it (+5), and I had enough in the way of Disruptors and Rifles out to solve the mission with those 4. 3 of them were Oglas (Ogla di, Ogla da, life goes on...), so got a nice 40 points (+40 =45). Not thinking very hard, I left the stopped 3 on the planet, and came back to Liberation to dock at the outpost, bringing all the weapons with me. This left people vulnerable on the planet, so they soon got killed and/or captured. (At this point he got up to 23 points.) I Ref-cycled my Big Picture. I went next door to Liberation on the other side, and attempted Prevent Annihilation. The Arsenal: Separated was first, I got through it but my one non-aligned dude got stopped. Voyager (Shields technically well into negative digits now) was Outgunned by Raptor One. My folk were battled, I don't think anyone died, but Tierna was captured. I reattempted, and lost everyone but Razik to the Kazon Bomb. Stuart attempted and stole Prevent Annihilation (+40 =79). I managed to get a ship out and solve Stop Bombardment (+35 =80). Mr 2000 threw everyone at Amnesty Talks. Chula: The Chandra didn't filter out many people, Hunter Probe was easily passed as was Ferengi Infestation. The skills were there for the win (+35 =114). Good game. Pretty fun, and I think I did well for the beating my personnel were getting. Final score: SAM2000 got 114, I got 80.
