Round 1KlingonThomas KamiuraFL (-90)
Round 1 - vs BossKamiura:

Soon to be the 45th player on my "play against 50 different opponents" counter (and 57th 1e opponent in the CC database), TK was a fun opponent, which is fun after hearing about him so many times on Section 31.

We were soon laughing about how many of our missions were in regions (6 different regions were represented).

After some connection issues were resolved, we finished up the seed phase and got on with the game.

I suspected that TK was playing Klingons, and I was not wrong. He paired it with Scientific Diplomacy.

TNG play so quick compared with DS9 (though perhaps I've not properly understood DS9 yet). First turn, TK played Scientific Beverly to the Ferengi Trading Post at the Scientific Diplomacy mission. I had a lucky Ilon Tandro in hand, so I reported him there and captured her. To quote the late, great, Arnold J. Rimmer, "The world loves a bastard."

TK attempted first, tripping an Assimilated Vessel. The Chandra let a bunch of people continue, but they still fell afoul of Cardassian Processing, who snatched a B'Somgh.

The Pagh was cruising into my territory, which felt a bit threatening to my Patrol Ship and the people on my Nor. TK talked about attacking throughout the game, but didn't (and thankfully didn't run into Protestations Of Innocence).

He solved the Renovate Starbase that he'd cleared (+30). He attempted another mission and failed Remat Detonator.

Next turn, he moved his orbiting ship away and reattempted, gliding through Murasaki Effect and losing Riker to Now Would Be A Good Time. Now indeed was a good time.

I was occasionally processing ore, and at this point I got 4 folk into the Gamma Quadrant. I nearly played a Cardassian Outpost there, but there was no chance of the opponent having a Deep Space Nine in play. It didn't seem a good time to play New Frontiers, so I attempted over there.

But first, TK attempted host Metaphasic Shielding Test. First was another Assimilated Vessel. I let this one be the one on table, and pitched the other. It damaged a ship at the end of the turn. Chandra this time only let one person continue, and Linguistic Legerdemain hit. 4-turn countdown!

Here's where the Gamma team failed The Arsenal: Separated at Establish Interquadrant Communications.

I threw some other people at Genesis, where the Pagh was parked. I should have attacked the Pagh (I believe I could have hit it with the Galor). As it was, God took a dislike to the Galor.

I brought the Patrol ship back from the Gamma Quadrant (I got to use Wormhole Navigation Schematic twice! That was cool). I threw people at Genesis, but failed a Founder Secret. I had a couple of people at Cardassia, so I redshirted them, failing an Arsenal: Separated.

My next turn, unable to quite reach Cardassia, I threw the Patrol Ship at Bajor. Do You Smell Something Burning? stopped a few people, God blew up the Patrol Ship, too. Smite Me, Oh Mighty Smiter, and all that.

TK solved the long-ago cleared-out Qo'noS (with a Mission Specialist, +35 =65).

For want of Range to reach Scientific Diplomacy, Tk threw people at Romulus. He had 14 or so Klingons (plus HQ War Room), so I didn't even count for Founder Secret. Deliberate Tactical Error only stopped 2 people, but he'd left his ship empty, so Now Would Be A Good Time captured Duras.

Assimilated Vessel II reached the end of the spaceline and jumped off, scoring me 10 points (+10).

I Regenerated, but that would only have been helpful if I'd had another turn. I couldn't get a ship out. I was one Cunning short for The Arsenal: Separated.

Linguistic counted down, TK swooped in and solved it. (+40 =105)

Good game, was fun trying this out.

Final score: TK got 105, I got 10. Good game.

Round 2FerengiChris A. MeadFL (-100)
Round 2 - v Komtadji:

Chris's mission selection indicated Ferengi. We mixed up the spaceline a little bit, but not a lot. Mr Mead soon had a fleet out, and stayed around the middle of the spaceline, and a little bit on my side. As I only had 2 ships, I was a bit intimidated about leaving one where it could be easily shot at.

I got Process Ore going early, I got Borat into the temple earlier. Opening hand had no-one who would play for free to DS9, so I played Darhe'el to the Central Command and downloaded the Gallery before I could draw into it. I'd drawn into two of the Sites, though.

Soon I had all the Sites out, and a couple of the free plays (Labor Camp, an HQ).

Chris attempted first, at Resupply Marauder II, his mission that was deepest in my territory.

Arsenal: Divided was first, then Reluctant Informant. No Command stars were left to be a second stop. Cardassian Processing got me Quark, who stayed on the trap card the whole game.

I attempted in the Gamma Quadrant. Nexus was first, going on the Wormhole. Forsaken took Hogue and Tadim to the bottom of the deck, I was short a Treachery for A Good Day To Lie. The ship got blown up, and the people relocated to the Nexus.

I had a couple of Guls at Cardassia. I redshirted them, now I had Secure Homeworld out. Toran joined the others under the deck with another Forsaken, Dal'Rok killed Evek.

Chris solved Resupply Marauder II (+25). He attempted Scientific Diplomacy, hit a Dead End.

I took my people off the Nexus and threw them at Genesis. Far from enough Strength for Founder Secret. I threw Parn as a redshirt at Cardassia, he hit a Dead End, too.

Chris, reinvigorated by the Range boost, threw some people at Revenge Plot. He had tons of Transporter Skill and so got through the Remat Detonator, Murasaki Effect damaged 2 of the 3 ships in orbit, the other ship had Mordoc on it for Now Would Be A Good Time. Kayron died when they beamed up, Baht died when they were beamed back down, and the mission was solved (+35 =60).

I'd played a ship, gone to the Gamma Quadrant with the skills for the dilemma, but I realised not the skills for the mission. I came back to the Alpha Quadrant with a Wormhole Navigation Schematic, took Bored back from the Wormhole, and threw lots of people at Genesis. Got through Founder Secret, Deliberate Tactical Error killed 3, and I didn't have the Leadership there for Friendly Fire. Quark bit the proverbial dust.

Mr Mead got through Protestations Of Innocence without trouble, and solved Scientific Diplomacy with a Mission Specialist (+45 =105).

Good game. 3 missions cleared, and a captive, but no (also proverbial) dice.

Final score: Komtadji 105, me 0.

Round 3Non-AlignedBrian SykesFL (-65)
Round 3 - vs Armus:

It was a pleasure playing Mr Sykes again.

Brian was playing a fantastic combination of Followers Of The One and Maquis, using Starting Over to invigorate his discard pile, and Macias to rescue the DS9 Maquis from the discard pile. Saving the swaps til after mission attempts, when he knew what skill he needed, was a smart move.

I've got a feeling I had the opportunity to capture Macias, and didn't take it. That was silly.

A bunch of missions came out that looked familiar, that had the Cardassian icon on. A lot has happened since my last game, I was actually pretty surprised when we only had one shared mission. Genesis.

Brian was intending Genesis for a completely different purpose to me: he'd seeded Unstable Matrix with an eye to a 3-Planet mission win.

My opening hand was pretty terrible: one personnel 4 or 5 New Frontiers and a Regenerate.

I got Borad to the Temple and got Process Ore going. I felt way behind in sheer number of personnel. Brian felt pressured by the quality of my personnel, so he started throwing people at missions earlier than he would otherwise have been comfortable with.

He had the 2 Transporter skill for Remat Detonator. Murasaki Effect damaged the Zalkonian Vessel in orbit (his only ship in play at the time). No-one was on the ship, so I captured Will Riker (his only Diplomacy in play at the time). Should've gone with Macias, who was discarded to get Maquis Quark from the discard pile.
Next turn, he was able to solve the mission, Supply Terrorists (+35).

Brian threw Lore at the Rogue Borg mission, but try as he might, The One was not able to bash through the Founder Secret.

I played a bunch of cards, disposing of New Arrivals. Danar at HQ, Labor Camp on Forced-Labor Camp, Gilora on Science Lab, Quark on his Bar, card play being the Galor (I already had the Patrol Ship out). I threw 4 people at Bajor. Do You Smell Something Burning stopped 2. New Essentialists sent Quark back to the top of the deck.

Murasaki Effect went away, and Brian got his crew over to join The One. Founder Secret was passed, Deliberate Tactical Error killed Morik and Kalita. Now Would Be A Good Time again found the orbiting ship empty, I captured The One. Again I believe I had the opportunity to capture Macias. Silly me.

I reattempted Bajor. Brute forced through New Essentialists, I only had one Universal personnel (and a few Command stars) so breezed through Deliberate Tactical Error, but only had 40 Strength for Founder Secret.

Brian solved Foster New Collective (+35 =70).
He threw people at the space mission next door, Amnesty Talks.

Dead End misfired, The Whale Probe stopped him.

I got Secure Homeworld out. I cleared Founder Secret and solved Bajor (+35), I sent the Galor towards Cardassia, and redshirted Cardassia with the Gul and Legate who were there. Palukoo bit Danar.

Armus redshirted Amnesty Talks, failed Protestations Of Innocence. Then he sent a boatload of people, and solved the mission for the win. (+35 =105).

Good game.

Final score: Armus 105, me 35.
